I read that article but didn't really think much of that, because I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere else. Since that was a rumor early on, perhaps the writer assumed it was true.

No she's just Michelle, no idea what J stands for. Maybe it's Jameson and JJJ is her brother lol

I'm not a comic book reader but I understand the annoyance and disappointment when your fav characters aren't portrayed accurately as in the source materials. But honestly I think that you can just consider that MJ line as a nod to comic book MJ, and Michelle will almost be an original character they build from scratch a la Jane Foster. And if Zendaya and Tom have little chemistry then they'll definitely give him new love interest in the 3rd movie like what they did to Jane and Thor.

Jane Foster is not an original character and I'm pretty sure she isn't in the 3rd movie because Feige/Waititi wanted to go a different direction with both the Thor movie and Thor as a character. Tom and Zendaya did a chemistry read together, which tells me that Feige/Watts have plans for their relationship to develop into more later on. There is always a possibility that that could change but for now, they definitely have *something* more planned.

About Zendaya I've always thought that she'll definitely have much larger role in future movies considering she had chemistry test with Tom and she was cast so early. I'm surprised that she has very few scenes with Peter but their interaction is very genuine and feels like there's definitely "something there". Tom and Zendaya also have good chemistry even though their scenes are brief (they're close irl too they flirt all the time on IG). I hope in future movies we have more bantering and them working together no matter whether she is a love interest or just a lady friend (I want my couple to banter and work together not cheesy kissing and arguing ew ew).

Why they had to hide that she is MJ? Why they can't just tell who she is? Hiding it was stupid. I didn't like her character much. She was a bit boring.

She acts like nothing bothers her now and perhaps that can even develope into a carefree party girl that seems like she is nothing but fun, however on the inside it is not who she is as she is deeply troubled due to her home life.

I think, as others have said, since they've given her the Michelle name, the best we can hope for is Michelle Mary-Jane Watson. Kind of a "David Bruce Banner" thing ala the 70s Hulk. And just as pointless a name change.

Here is one for you. How about she was born Mary Jane Watson, but at a young age her real parents died in an accident and she was placed in a home with an family that renames her Michelle. A couple years later her foster mother passes and her foster father starts drinking and he eventually starts being Abusive towards her. So she is not fond of the name Michelle as it reminds her of all the bad things in her life, and when she is of a legal age she plans to change her name to Mary Jane. In the mean-time she is letting a few people in on this is who I truly am.

I think some variation of this is plausible , although I really doubt she'd develop into a carefree party girl. I just don't see the necessity or feasibility of that, given what we know about her.

While what you say is true, and I understand your point. We are beyond the point where ideal is still a possibility regarding her character. So, what I am trying to speculate on is best case scenarios given what has already been provided to us as an introduction.

In this case, I think so because from what I've seen and read, she seems like a pretty cynical character, one with a dry sense of humor who seemingly doesn't get caught up in the "fun" aspects of teenage life. Now, I do think that's partly a facade, which is why I'm sure we'll see her soften and become more open/vulnerable with those she's closest to. But I'm having a hard time imagining her becoming more like the peers she probably mocks, lol...even if it is just a facade, which isn't necessary because again, she's already "hiding" behind a persona.

I sort of enjoyed how she was a different interpretation of the MJ character. I could be reading into it too much, but I got the feeling that the filmmakers may have wanted to distance themselves from the previous live-action Mary Jane (who people didn't seem to like), so they just did something very different. I thought she had a great and very unique personality, she may have even got the most laughs for me out of any character in the movie.

What annoys me the most is that the character was completely irrelevant to the story. Seriously, she's barely in the movie and her few scenes are for comic relief.
