No she's just Michelle, no idea what J stands for. Maybe it's Jameson and JJJ is her brother lol
I'm not a comic book reader but I understand the annoyance and disappointment when your fav characters aren't portrayed accurately as in the source materials. But honestly I think that you can just consider that MJ line as a nod to comic book MJ, and Michelle will almost be an original character they build from scratch a la Jane Foster. And if Zendaya and Tom have little chemistry then they'll definitely give him new love interest in the 3rd movie like what they did to Jane and Thor.
Jane Foster was in the original Thor books.
I read that article but didn't really think much of that, because I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere else. Since that was a rumor early on, perhaps the writer assumed it was true.
Jane Foster is not an original character and I'm pretty sure she isn't in the 3rd movie because Feige/Waititi wanted to go a different direction with both the Thor movie and Thor as a character. Tom and Zendaya did a chemistry read together, which tells me that Feige/Watts have plans for their relationship to develop into more later on. There is always a possibility that that could change but for now, they definitely have *something* more planned.
What's in the credits as her name?
What if her real name is already Mary Jane, but she is going by Michelle because she has issues at home and it is part of her facade to keep people from truly seeing her. She acts like nothing bothers her now and perhaps that can even develope into a carefree party girl that seems like she is nothing but fun, however on the inside it is not who she is as she is deeply troubled due to her home life.

She does look like she partakes in a bit of the mary jane ironically.

Um what![]()
I am just throwing ideas out there. Some are decent, some may be not be so good. Lol

I think, as others have said, since they've given her the Michelle name, the best we can hope for is Michelle Mary-Jane Watson. Kind of a "David Bruce Banner" thing ala the 70s Hulk. And just as pointless a name change.
Oops I'm sorry I don't know that she is a character from comic book. I think I read an article somewhere that said she was an original character but maybe I remember it wrong (or that article was inaccurate). And I've always thought they change Thor's love interest because Jane was poorly written and Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman had zero chemistry lol

Or she could have been the first comic accurate portrayal of Mary Jane Watson ever put on film, instead of the route they went which would have meant we wouldn't even be having to come up with fan theories to fix their mistake in the first place. Such a frustrating situation.
Ha. It wasn't anything to write home about but I didn't mind them. I think no Jane in the next movie has more to do with the change in directors and Feige wanting to make a more ambitious movie than the previous two. I really don't see Spidey having any of the same problems as the Thor franchise, so I'm not expecting any big changes.
I think some variation of this is plausible , although I really doubt she'd develop into a carefree party girl. I just don't see the necessity or feasibility of that, given what we know about her.
Well with the carefree Party Girl thing it is just to move her closer to being Mary Jane from the comics. So my thought process is this she currently does not care what other people think and she speaks her mind. So, is there really that big of a jump from being someone that doesn't care about what others think to someone that is Carefree and uninhibited. I don't know seems like it could transition to me.

Dude you're right
