"They're Attacking Me Because I'm White!"

it was in 2002, not '04.

No it wasn't. There was no DNC convention in 2002 as the election was in 2004. I am talking about his keynote address. No one gave a damn about his 2002 anti-Iraq war speech. It was his 2004 keynote address that skyrocketed him into the national spot light.

I wouldn't call Ferraro a racist for this comment. She's pretty much telling the truth here and she isn't intentionally insulting his race. She just should have known better to keep her mouth shut.

Agreed. It adds nothing to the discussion unless Hillary feels having advisors do some race-baiting is a good tactic.

I also really don't buy this whole agrument Obama where he is PURELY because he's black. He's where he is because he's a dynamic speaker and his charisma. His race may add to the "mystique" perhaps,...but you can't compare Obama and John Edward??? Edwards, a good speaker, is no where near the level Obama or even Bill Clinton is for that matter. Edwards isn't even Ronald Reagan. Edwards doesn't inspire, unite, charm the way Obama does. Edwards gives a good stump, fight on speech. But the speech Kennedy/Clinton/Reagan/Obama give speeches like they're authority figures that are seranading you...

Name one other white Democratic politician recently who has given a speech like Obama has?

Al Gore? LOL

Mark Warner, a favorite of mine....nope

Spitzer...lol?

Blagovich

Bill Nelson...hmm..can't think of one.

I don't see Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, or Alan Keyes running away the candidacy because of their race. Yes, they are fringe candidates...but the point remains. Obama is where he is because of his talent and his ability to market himself...

I don't think anyone (including Ferarro) claimed he is where he is strictly because he is black. It is like I said earlier. He was fast tracked to the presidential nomination without any scrutiny from the media or party insiders because he is black. If a white senator announced his candidacy without even serving half a term he would be torn apart by the media. Look at John Edwards in 2004. They had a field day talking about his "inexperience" when he had TRIPLE the experience Obama had. Obama got a free ride on not having a platform for the first 12 months of his campaign. Obama got a pass from the media because he is black and that makes a sexier story than a white guy.

^John Edwards made it to be VP presidential candidate, coming in second in Iowa, he won South Carolina...he beat out Howard Dean, Dick Gephardt....he had talent, Southerner appeal...but he's not as dynamic a speaker as Obama...you got to admit that.

It's not even close. And I think you can easily argue that Obama is smarter than either Edwards, Clinton, or any other candidate this year. His grades in Law School support that. Unless of course his grades were given to him because he's black. :whatever:

Its not about being a dynamic speaker. It is about how the media played the inexperience card to no end with him, but with Obama they are giving him a free pass, despite the fact that Edwards had TRIPLE the experience Obama had when he declared his candidacy.

LOL, experience, schmerience. Bill Clinton didn't have experience either compared to George Bush. You wanna talk about double standards. You can't get much worse than Bill Clinton's flip flop on the experience issue compared to his stance on it 16 years ago.

What? Bill Clinton was the governor of Arkansas for 11 years

I don't understand the argument. If we're not suggesting that him being black is the DECIDING factor to allow Obama to be where he is now, then what is the point? As Jag said above, would Romney have made it where he is with his hair, Edwards in 2004 with his Southern drawl, George Bush because of his Texan boots and jeans, .who cares...this is such a useless, whiny argument to make.....and I think politically stupid.

Seriously, Edwards "triple" the experience....2 years in US Senate (after several in state senate) as opposed to 6 years in US Senate before deciding not to run for re-election.....meh, not something to write home about...

By the way, George W. Bush was governor of my state for 6 years. Whole lot of good that did him as President.

And Barack Obama has been a legislator for 12 years.

Working as a state legislature is a whole different ball game and you are smart enough to know that. Again, its like saying a baseball player will automatically be good at football or basketball.

Yeah, because being a governor really gives someone half a clue on foreign policy? Yeah right. And by the way, being a governor in a small state like Arkansas is small ball compared to running the entire country, or hell running bigger states like California.

Its not poltically stupid at all. It is a perfectly valid critique of the media. They are giving the man a free pass, and not only that, turning him into a rock star candidate, while criticizing others for the same thing when they did it to a lesser extent (running for president while inexperienced is just one example). The media shouldn't be creating rockstar candidates at all yet alone giving anyone a free pass. An independent media is crucial to safe guarding democracy. Instead of running fluff pieces of him playing basketball they should be breaking down his platform piece by piece. Same with all of the candidates. But no, they would rather have their story about the first black candidate as opposed to actually scrutinizing a man who can lead the free world. This kind of inattention from the media is what allowed George Bush to slip lies right through the cracks and lead us straight into an unjustified war.

Yeah, because being a governor really gives someone half a clue on foreign policy? Yeah right.

Perhaps not, but is basically the equivilant of being a mini-President. Are you seriously saying that a man who spent 12 years in state legislature is as qualified as a man who spent 11 years as governor of a state to be president? I don't think I can debate with you any longer as you are ignoring pretty much common political FACT and just throwing out answers that do not make the least bit of sense.

They're not scrutinizing Clinton either there, dude. The Republicans have boxes and boxes of ***** that they are ready to throw at her because the media hasn't reported any of it. They've been soft on both candidates.

No, my point is neither of them were experienced when they ran. And I think it's pretty damn clear that Hillary Clinton's experience is a crock of ***** as well. It's one thing for a 25 year senator like Kerry to attack Edwards or McCain to attack someone else on experience, but Hillary Clinton attacking on this issue? C'mon!

And I've said that on numerous occassions. But to say they are not scrutinizing Clinton at this point is outright absurd. You have analysts on CNN calling HER racist because of something Geraldine Ferraro said.

11 years of Governor is a **** LOAD of Presidential experience! What about Biden? Why didn't the media scrutinize his lack of experience compared to Biden?

Got a link to prove that? All they've said on the various news stations is that the Clinton campaign probably knew about this kind of sentiment amongst some of her supporters. I've seen just as many political pundits defending Ferraro and claiming that it was merely a statement of fact. Do you want to have it both ways? Clinton's campaign sent out racist, nasty emails in Iowa. Why the hell would anyone assume that this doesn't exist amongst people in her campaign after that incident? What, because she fired the people? How about making sure that kind of crap doesn't happen in the first place?

I like Biden, but political campaigns are all about the Benjamins. You know that. Biden just didn't have the money to advertise much and to make matters worse for his own campaign, he happens to be a really nice guy that refuses to attack like that.

Because believe it or not, Clinton doesn't run every campaign office. Saying something like that is like saying Bill Gates is responsible if some low level accountant embezzles some money out of Microsoft. You're just talking out of your ass at this point so I'm done with this conversation./

I'm talking out of my ass? OK, there was evidence that this kind of sentiment existed amongst her supporters, which is all I have seen people on those news stations say. That does NOT mean Hillary agreed with it at all and I haven't seen people necessarily make that conclusion. Obama's campaign manager did it, which was ridiculous in my opinion. But there's plenty of evidence, on both sides, that there's various sentiment that gets spouted off without the candidate approving of it. People have their own minds, but when it happens multiple times then there's at least more than one person that feels that way. That is the only thing I've seen people say in the media. Blame Obama's campaign for saying that it was an "insidious pattern" and trying to blame Clinton for it, don't blame the media for reporting their own observations on what her supporters have done and said. This is one situation where it was definitely Obama's people, not the effing media, that you should be outraged at.

The fact that Geraldine said the same thing about Jesse Jackson in '88 belittles her claims of "speaking the truth".

So then in her mind any African American who crosses into an "exclusive arena" (ex:politics) and does well at it, it must be because of their color. There's just no other way!

That's right up there with, he/she only got that job because they "talk white, look white, act white, etc."

She and Hillary are certainly good at the "everyone's against me" whine on tv. She a sickening has-been; 'cuse me...never-was.
