Things those of you don't like about the Nolan Bat-movies.

The black emblem on the black suit drives me nuts. Either give it some contrast, so it's visible, or just get rid of it altogether.

Begins had bad, pretensious dialogue, bad one-liners and was low-key in terms of violence (this time we need at least some blood and swearing from gangsters). Katie Holmes was annoying with her big moral speeches, the direction was sometimes really bad (Rachel's first meeting with Batman).

I hope that the sequel will be better movie.

That's Goyer for you. He came up with a great story, but the man can't write dialog save his life. Fortunately he only participated in writing the story this time around, and not the final script. I have a little more faith in Jonathan Nolan's ability to write dialogue.

So what? Kids could go and watch animated series or previous 3 movies (I consider BR being more adult movie). At last Batman should get a movie he deserves - dark and gritty. I know TDK won't be R rated, but it should push the PG-13 limits like Returns.

returns pushed the limits, becasue it was a very weird gothic horror movie.

We all know this, and TDK should be intense action/thriller, not popcorn summer movie.

You've obviously never seen anything remotely like a weird gothic horror movie.

Seriously, anyone who thinks Returns is "too intense" or "too scary" is SUCH a *****. It's a quirky popcorn flick with some dark edges, not this crazy experiment in morose cinematic depravity people make it out to be.

Of course not, but in comparision with other superhero flicks it is really original and interesting, and that makes it one of best movies of that kind.

Now, back to the topic.
In TDK we shouldn't get a another "damsel in distress" scenario with Rachel or somebody else. It is such a cliche:o

My main complaint is that BB was and TDK appears to be what we call a 'sausagefest'.

Not really many interesting female characters. Don't get me wrong, I despise bimbos and dumbish damsels in distress whose sole purpose in a film is to 'appeal' to the male teenage audience.

But there are so many female leads in the trilogy of Year One, TLH and Dark Victory and other comics in general. Not saying Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn [though the latter could be written VERY interstingly]. I'm talking about Sarah Essen, Gordon's wife Barbara, Gilda Dent, Det. Montoya [I rather doubt she'll be in TDK in the end]. Selina Kyle/Catwoman as well is by far a very interesting character... though for obvious reasons can be attributed to the teenage pleasing quality of character, and unfortunately she was humiliated in 2004...

Also I'd prefer if there was a closer connection and ultimately a film adaptation of Year One, TLH and DV, though I'm too bored to elaborate on that.

In the end though, BB was the best comic book to film adaptation and TDK looks very promising so I can't have any REAL complaints :cwink:

The plain look of the movie.

Burton may have did a lot of his filming on a soundstage, but I loved it, it was very visual and had a noir feel. It was dark. I felt BB didn't have the appropriate lighting, that the look was too busy emulating the real world instead of emulating Batman's world, if that makes sense.

Indeed. These movies need an injection of babe.

Two words: Poison. Ivy. heh heh :cwink:

Absolutely makes sense. Just have a few more iconic images of Batman with the cape billowing, a few more cathedrals, a graveside scene. Bring out that Gothic noir edge that's just begging to come out. There is every sense that this movie will be more epic than BB, so hopefully we'll see that side.

i'm not impressed with the soundtrack for BB. i know it fits Nolan's films and that TDK's hasnt been done yet, but just in terms of the iconic quality of the music its a pale comparisson with Elfman's work with Batman '89.

Basically, hearing the same criticisms that were proven wrong the last time being brought back again (I know, it´s not a criticism on the movies per se, but it becomes part of the experience).

And Burton nostalgia. Would you like to be Superman fans and bitsch that Nolan "pays too much homage" to Burton? Yeah, I loved the visual from the first movie too, but you know what, it´s good to see a different take. We had four movies that looked superstylized and outer-worldy. Noir isn´t just fumes and expressionist shadows, realism is gritty and that fits Batman too.

Ultimatefan, it is possible for people to really like Batman Begins and still have problems with it. I agree with Steelsheen - the Elfman score is way ahead of the Zimmer/Newton Howard one in terms of iconic stature and sheer memorableness. And the production design, the look of Gotham, in B89 was also superior, IMO (Returns a bit too out there). I'm not being nostalgic, not bashing Nolan, just sayin'.

and I´m not bashing Burton either or bashing fans for liking Burton´s visuals better, but as someone who spend months on the Superman boards hearing people bitsching about how he should have done something "fresh", instead of following Donner so much, I think at the end of the day that kinda "I miss Burton´s visuals " feeling isn´t productive. Go and watch his movies and enjoy his gothic superstylized stuff, but that doesn´t make it wrong in anyway that Nolan goes a different route.

What I don't like about the TDK is that a lot of people are already comparing it to Spiderman 3 and citing some 'formula for the appropriate number of villains in any one super hero film."

Also, I enjoyed BB except for the fight scenes. I just attributed it to the Batsuit not being as flexible as Nolan wanted it. Looks like he fixed that problem.

I'm not saying it is. I enjoy B89 and BR, and love BB. That is possible.

Yeah, well, people think I defend everything about Nolan movies, no, in BB I thought the script was a little too expositional at times, the second act was a bit too slow and the fighting editing was choppy at times, but I think these things will be improved.

And didn´t I? With all its problems, I still liked 89 overall. But that doesn´t make me miss anything from his movies in the current franchise. It´s its own thing and I like that.

I hate the Joker's look. The bleached skin and the rings around the eyes are fine, but the gashes on the lips have got to go. And the smeared on lipstick is just terrible. Looks like he tried to apply it on himself in the dark or something. Why doesn't Nolan just stay with continuity and have Joker fall into the vat of chemicals and become Joker? Is he just worried he'd be remaking Burton's Batman? That's what I don't understand.

Another thing I can't comprehend is like the creator of this post said: why can't we see Scarecrow in an actual costume? You'd think by now he'd have the brim hat, the tattered rag clothes, and least have some kind of weapon or just cartidges of fear-gas strapped to his arms. I mean it doesn't make sense when you got Bruce Wayne who dresses up like a Bat, but when you got a guy named Scarecrow who only wears a Scarecrow mask, but yet wears a business suit that sort of shows me: we're afraid to step out of our comfort zone.

Then there's the new Batsuit. I'm glad they made a suit where he can swivel his head back and forth without it being too tight and rubbery around Bale's neck, but it looks too armored plated. What was good about the last suit and others is it felt like a Batsuit. This looks more cut out for "Batman Beyond" and the Bat symbol is not visible as it should. Maybe it's time to bring back the yellow emblem behind it?

Next, there's the Batpod. WHY CAN'T IT JUST BE CALLED THE BATCYCLE?!? :cmad:  Batpod is a crappy name. Seriously, wouldn't you think a villain would just crack his ass up if he heard what Bat's new ride's name was.

Joker: The Batpod? What's Batman going to do? Make us listen to a bunch of poptunes?

Lastly, there's been set-reports of maybe a love relationship between Rachel and Dent. This I think is absurd. Dent has Gilda and if Nolan is following the comics he'd have Dent be with Gilda. I could maybe see him having one of Dent's flaws is he's an adulterer or cheats on his wife alot, but least Nolan try to stay true the comics somehow.
