I agree, since the first leaked photo of the costume, I think it looks awesome. The medieval details are a big thumbs up.

As I recall the given purpose for Thor, Loki & Odin's helmets was that they were more crowns/ceremonial garb than actual helmets.

Odin wears his because he is king. Loki wears his while acting king or self appointed king of earth. Thor wears his when he's about to be crowned king but never again because he isn't king yet.

You want that over the movie design?

Are you serious?

Looking at how astonishingly well Skyfall is doing this weekend (it's on course to gross up to $88M, possibly more), Marvel Studios and Disney made the right decision to release Thor 2 in that spot for next year.

I don't think Thor 2 will set any November opening records (too early to say), but I think it could do as well as Skyfall if it hits the right buttons.

I think it will do better than skyfall

We'll have to see. I mean, The Avengers pretty much gave a boost for the Phase 2 solo movies. I don't think Thor 2 will get that magical $100M+ opening weekend unless it happens to be really, really good.

Well when exactly should we expect Thor to become king? Based on reports (Can't recall the source) didn't they say he would in this film?

I'll tell you this, I could not bring myself to watch Dark Knight in theaters due to that. It was so shocking and made me so sad. He was an actor I was very fond of prior to the joker role. It took me a long time but I eventually saw it on TV. Wonderful performance but I think if I'd seen him in it when it first came out I would have cried right there in the theater. :(

I saw The Dark Knight in the theater a couple of times and Ledger's portrayal of an iconic comic villain is still riveting to this day. In this movie he ceases being Heath Ledger and is the Joker. I bet if you told someone who never knew Ledger was cast as the Joker that he played the Joker in this movie they'd not believe you.

That said, maybe Tom Hiddleston can fill the void Heath Ledger left when he passed away.

You said that in the past tense, but the Phase 2 solo movies are still in the future.

Let's wait and see what happens before making assertions like that. The fact that so many people enjoyed a Joss Whedon film based around these heroes as a team is no guarantee that the solo movies (which, to point out the obvious, are *not* directed by Joss Whedon) will suddenly get renewed interest.

Can I just say how it is somewhat depressing to come to the Thor forums listing and see Thor the dark world "Discuss the sequel coming to theaters on July 26, 2013." think for a second, "all right! they moved up the release date!" and then realize that's not true. :( Someone needs to correct that. :p

From Adewale's twitter yesterday....

I believe so. I remember some rumors floating about that Odin dies in this.

well the part in the synopsis that says
"Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand" makes me suspicious that Odin will die as well as Frigga (per the stuntman's spoiler)

Yeah. That really makes it seem likely.

Makes me wonder though.... If Thor becomes King, who will be his Queen?

Actually there is pretty much a guarantee. When you put two and two together, we have every reason to believe the solo movies will get a boost from Avengers.

They very well could.
But they very well could not, too.

Avengers was lightning in a bottle for several reasons:

1) Novelty. Nobody had ever seen (to this extent, anyway) a large-scale crossover of characters from multiple franchises into a single team-up.
2) Team-up. Six superheroes together attracts a larger audience; but someone who's a fan of, say, Iron Man and the Avengers is not automatically guaranteed to suddenly develop an interest in a Captain America sequel....especially if they didn't like (or even see) the first Cap movie.
3) Joss. Joss is a fan's fan; has years of experience with Marvel and the genre as a whole; and knows how to make a fun movie.

*None* of those factors will repeat in the solo films. Other than Shane Black and Edgar Wright, you've got unproven directors at the helm; in some cases, you've got totally unproven concepts about characters that even comic-book geeks are unfamiliar with; and each actor is now going to have to shoulder the burden of their respective franchises on their own shoulders instead of enjoying the repartee and camaraderie of other stars within the MCU.

IM3 is definitely a safe bet to continue the blockbuster pace (proven star, proven director, proven franchise); and, of course, the Avengers sequel; but TDW, CATWS, GOTG and Ant-Man are all real gambles on unproven stars, unproven directors (except Wright), and unproven (or even virgin) franchises.

Yeah. That really makes it seem likely.

Makes me wonder though.... If Thor becomes King, who will be his Queen?

Short answer: Me :woot:

Longer answer.... I think he might get into a Stan Lee love triangle like in the comic books. Thor, Jane Foster and me... I mean Sif. That'd be awesome I think. Or how about a twist in the myth with the Enchantress? I still miss her in the movies heh.

I know I will probably be the lone voice saying this, but what the hey: I think there's a good chance (about 70%) that Jane will still be Thor's love interest by the end of the movie. I rather doubt she would be queen at that point, though.

Prior to the Andrew Lawden leak, I would have agreed that there was a good chance of some sort of love triangle. It's a little tricker to have a love triangle when there's this malevolent spirit in the mix as well, though. (I mean, would the third vertex of the triangle be Jane or the spirit?)

Regarding the Enchantress, she was one of the Masters of Evil at one point (see the Alice Krige thread), so if the rumor about them pans out, maybe she'll get in the story that way.

A lot of commotion should be taking place the whole way through this film! :yay:

Maybe he stays single for a little while. (Isn't King Thor single in the books?)

No actually. he was married to amora the enchtrantress. In the Lord of midgard arc anyway

I WANT A TRAILER...

or even just some concept art at this point, jeeze, we arent getting anything yet

But didn't that get undone by his going back in time? If that's the case, it wouldn't be canon anymore.

(Or do you mean to say you hope Amora would be Queen of Asgard :yay::yay:)

Concept art would be good!

well it wasn't canon anymore, however, during that arc when he WAS king, Amora was his queen.

I know, Thor was still king. But when I think of King Thor, that is the arc that comes to mind :P

Concept art would be good!

I am dying to see some kurse concept art. Still really curious as to how that is going to work, i hope they don't stray away from his comic design
