oh my, the 'fun is evil' brigade has conquered this thread. :(

you all realize, that if you want to have a miserable time at the cinema, there are still Snyder movies for you to look forward to, right?

LOL. So true.

The funny thing, now that you mentioned Snyder, is that, after BvS trailer, a lot of these guys are comparing it to those ''silly Marvel movies''.

Hmm... I am not getting the most reassuring feelings about this. Granted, the Russo's delivered a solidly told action thriller in TWS after coming from comedy... But I would feel a lot better if the announcements were filled with talk about how this is going to be grand and serious and character driven. Instead it feels like everything points to humor and Shiva H. Vishnu, that was a big part of TDW annoying the crap out of me after I ADORED the first film. I hope as production ramps up there is some stressing the seriousness of the story, and sorry to all the people that rant the loudest about "gritty serious" CBM's but I don't go to super hero films to yuck it up exclusively or primarily. As a kid reading these characters while there was humor here and there, the "fun" wasn't in some wink-wink, quip every page approach. The "fun" was in fact in taking this over the top material seriously.

 sums up my thoughts perfectly. TDW just had too much inappropriately timed humour. I hope they have learned from that for the 3rd movie.

No one here is arguing that "evil is fun." That is such a blatant strawman argument that ignores/misrepresents what people are ACTUALLY saying here. "Serious simply for the sake of being serious" can be problematic, but so can "funny simply for the sake of being funny." The level of darkness or humor should fit the material. For example, Batman being pretty dark/serious overall works because, he's that kind of character. And being funny fits GOTG because the whole selling point is "a team of lovable misfits going on adventures."

This is Thor RAGNAROK. You know Ragnarok, the "end of all things," basically the Norse apocalypse where all the gods will die in battle. That is not a premise that screams "lets do a bunch of goofy humor/gags," it should be taken more seriously. That doesn't mean that there cannot be ANY humor, even TWS (which took itself pretty seriously overall) still had it's fair share of that. But the kind of humor that was in TDW, or GOTG, or the IM films? No, that doesn't fit this premise, imo.

Exactly, brilliantly put.

We have heard talks about that one of the reasons the director was chosen was to balance the dark and apocalyptic script that had been written by Yost, so it hasn't been purely one-sided.

Excellent post. Don't forget that Daredevil still managed to have some really funny moments without compromising the overall dark tone.

Hey... Thanks for turning this into a silly assed Marvel/DC thing by taking an unwarranted swipe at the other guys.

Oh, I know. But I'm just saying that so far, and this will probably change, but so far when there's been news it's not highlighting that serious story by Yost, but how the director comes from a comedic background (which again... May mean nothing at all. Come comedy but actually deliver a solid action film is what the Russos did) or now with talking about matching GOTG ect., given that I was disappointed greatly with TDW and frankly just wasn't a fan of GOTG, it's not reassuring to not have the important seriousness of the plot or the dramatics of the character relationships stressed. But... It's still very early too though.

Hems said he'd like a tone similar to Guardians, doesn't mean it will be like that. Let's wait and see What happens.

extended Thor vs. Vision scene

Wow, that should have looked really great in the film.

I like that they resolve the Vision matter with words,a fight would have been predictable imo.

A compromise would have been cool. Shorten it a bit more so you can emphasize his sight of the world and the pause, but had given a bit more so you can show off his abilities. I really wish they had kept the shield throw because his phasing was poorly shown in the final film.

Ah... That's the stuff John Schnepp on Collider said he saw on set but didn't make it into the film.

agreed
the shield throw was awesome and should have stayed in, and maybe the beam shooting from his head too

Would be awesome if its' finalised.

Cate Blanchett, coming off her best actress nomination for the 1950s drama Carol, is in final negotiations to join Thor: Ragnarok, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The move comes a little more than a week after the Marvel Studios project hired Stephany Folsom to work on the script.
It is unclear what character Blanchett would play but several sources say that Marvel has been on the hunt for a “bad-ass female.”
Taika Waititi, who co-wrote and co-directed the vampire spoof What We Do In the Shadows, is directing the project, the third installment of Marvel’s Thor movies.
Chris Hemsworth will be back as the Norse god of thunder for the film that is also due to feature a team-up with the Hulk.

She's been in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. So she's definitely not against doing these blockbusters.

Marvel certainly knows how to get me interested in these movies I otherwise wouldn't be caring about. I'm especially surprised about this, considering she just reportedly turned down Wonder Woman. But then, she's got those Disney connections from Cinderella so I guess it makes some sense.

Why did she turn down Wonder Woman but went for Thor? Does she not think much of WW? Or maybe she wants to be in a Marvel movie because of their reputation already and that they're more of a surefire thing?

It could be any of those things, it could be that the script is better, OR most likely it could be the combination of key factors - A.) it's filming in Australia, and B.) She's already established a good relationship with Disney.

Who will she play? She doesn't really seem tall enough for Valkyrie, and too old for both her and Enchantress.

Hela, perhaps? I've seen people suggesting Enchantress, but I don't think Blanchett really has the vibe for that.

She doesn't really seem alluring and seductive enough. I'd want someone younger and less of a cold ice queen figure.

Cate Blanchett would make an amazing Hela. I could see someone more like Natalie Dormer doing a good job at playing Enchantress.
