Guys, we're only few positive reviews away from a fresh rating again. . .

Just got back from watching this, and I'm gonna give it an 8-8.5/10. If you ever wanted to see DBZ style fight scenes on the big screen, this is it. It really is breath-taking. There are a couple of scenes that hit at an emotional core, but I think it needed a couple more.

Its going to be polarizing. It has its flaws, and at certain points feels a little flat, but it succeeds in overcoming those short-comings if you look at it from a particular perspective.

So, did you catch that half a second of Christopher Reeve? :D

Just returned from the premiere. I enjoyed the film a great deal, as did the friend with whom I saw it. Certainly there were some things I would have done differently, but I reckon that will always be the case as long as someone besides me is making these movies. I'll see it again (possibly multiple times) and am looking forward to future sequels and expansion of the DC movie universe. I certainly felt the imprints of both Nolan and Snyder, and I thought Cavill did a great job. Excited to see the secondary characters hopefully fleshed out a bit more in the next film, but this film was obviously Superman's and I'm glad that was the case.

That was incredible. No idea what those reviews are about. I cannot wait to see this again with every person I know.

if this doesn't make bank they will just go with worlds finest and have a new batman with supes then justice league

I wish it was edited slightly differently without all the jumps in time. It was so clear that it was shot on film too, unlike Ironman 3 where it was clearly shot on video. It looked so much better because it was not shot on video.

Overall, it was great. It's not TDK, but I didn't expect it to be. So many things about this really set it apart from other DC movies and Marvel movies as well. The action scenes in the end of this were just insane. A lot like the avengers but even more and done much better. Zod and Faora were so awesome.

Some of it didm but some didn't. Like a lot of singles/medium seemed very rudimentary and TV...like that exchange with the priest in particular. It's like 'what is this, Dawson's Creek?' And really too much hand-held where simple locked or smooth would have been much nicer.

The way Zack Snyder shoots, with one camera I didn't have a problem with. Most of the action scenes were really well done and you could see for the most part what was happening. Shooting on film as opposed to video just the whole color palette looks completely different.

Arrived back from the midnight showing a few minutes ago.

I'll reflect on what I saw for a while, and view it a second time before writing a full review. My rating as of right now is 7/10.

Also... I'm confounded that anyone could complain it had too much action, without enough character and story.

Important Note: Makes sure the large heavy alien-probe mantle is rotated into the 12 o'clock position to insert USB key, or world-saving plan will not proceed.

And be sure to insert the key all the way down to avoid dangerous attacks and moral lectures.

:woot:

You could make the color palette pretty much anything you want on either format. I always love film, but this felt rathe flat in a lot of areas....almost like too many telephoto lenses. All the greenscreen/effects stuff probably didn't help.

I don't think it had 'too much' action, it was just sort of 'meh' by the time it all piled on. Kinda' like the rest of the film, before was just a formality to get there...like complementary bread instead of a real appetizer. And then the main dish while big in portion was sort of plain in flavor.

LOVED THE MOVIE, a true Superman film for the fans and general moviegoers...Though as a fan of overall cinema I have to be a bit critical
My main issues with the film are with the pace...Snyder literally made a film right off the storyboard, there needed to be some transitioning into the next scene...Another 15 minutes to fine tune things would have been perfect.

I am completely ok with how scenes jumped back and forth, its cool as thats how it created its own origins story. Still would have been nice to have a little bit of easing us into the scenes.
Alot of amazing action, but there was no time to calm down...So much frantic emotion that we really didnt get to know alot about Superman's personality. I think that will be fleshed out in the next film...Right now, things hit the fan so introducing Superman the way they did made sense.

Gave it a 8/10 in my review

There's a distinction to be drawn between story and plot. The story was fine. The plot was choppy.

Just got back. It was okay. I liked it. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

THE GOOD

Henry Cavill is officially my favorite Superman. He was so damn good. I thought he was the only one to really stand out.

The action was unreal. I mean...wow.

The cinematography is gorgeous.

The tone of the film is perfect.

There were some truly good (even great) scenes that really made me smile or feel excited.

I thought the acting was solid overall.

Most of the jokes were funny.

The critics were wrong. This film has heart. It really does.

THE BAD

There were a couple of instances where I was pulled out of the film a little bit because things were unclear, unexplained, or just didn't make sense to me.

I feel like the film moved a little too fast at times.

The editing was very choppy at times. There were instances in the beginning where I felt there was little to no flow. One of the scene changes even made me laugh out loud.

The beginning on Krypton felt...odd. It looked nice, but I felt disconnected from everything. Why should I care about what's going on? How am I even supposed to know what's going on? It felt like I walked into the film ten minutes late and missed some important scenes or was somehow supposed to know about and understand everything that was going on.

I thought Ayelet Zurer was laughably bad at times.

The flashbacks weren't always given proper buildup and seemed to happen at Goyer's convenience.

The relationship between Lois and Superman felt rushed and underdeveloped.

I felt like some of the action could've been cut. By the end, I was tired and just wanted to go home.

There was some corny dialogue that made me cringe a little.

Superman snapping Zod's neck pissed me the **** off. Superman doesn't kill. Ever. Also, thank you Gimbol for spoiling that one for me.

The ending with Lois and Clark meeting "for the first time" made me laugh.

Overall, I feel...disappointed. Like I said...I liked it, but I thought it would be so much better. Maybe I'll like it better when I see it again, but right now, I give the film a 6.5/10. Better luck next time.

And flat. Much like TDKR, it's like things would sort of drag then someone would have to wrap it up in a long paragraph, and then repeat the cycle.

I'm with you on that one ;) I thought Hamilton would show why Superman works with him in the future. I thought he would decipher some kind of writing and turn some knobs or something. Nope. Rotate. :p

The doctor's dead too, right? Shame.

But jesus...just insert the USB key all the way to begin with! That goes for everyone. :oldrazz:

I respect your opinion.

One of the reasons may be that the terraforming angle was scarcely alluded to (if at all?) before it appeared. Up until then the Kryptonian aspect revolved around the codex, and then suddenly the mass/gravity generators. Felt almost out of left field. There are gaps in our understanding of even the basics of Zod's plan.

Good movie and lets pray for a $120 million weekend.

A few turns and adjustment to the prison ship's air conditioner and voila'....space warp. Cool, huh? :woot:

It felt veery A-B-C-etc, but leaving out some vowels, if you will. Again, very much like a TV episode that they had to wrap up within the hour. That's the thing, we didn't 'miss' anything, but there always felt like a lot was missing. It was pretty flat.

Again, clearly not better than most other Superhero movies out now....sadly sort of re-affirming the idea of Superman being surpassed as a character.
I didn't find that at all. It is definitely up there for me.

Didn't find it flat at all. Very character driven and vibrate. You are honestly throwing me with the missing bit. The movie is very direct and to the point of Clark and his need to ascend, but not sure what you believe is missing.

In some ways, yes they tried to really deliver on the action with some legitimate big fights and I applaud that.

But aside from already seeing a lot of it in Matrix 3, at a certain point this action kinda' became like the car chase scene in Matrix 2...just kept going on and on and on, and sort of plateaued. Could have used some more dynamics.

I do like Cavill in the role....but I actually like him better with the more emotional stuff than the campy hero-like stuff.

Is it out of left field? I think it plays right alongside of the Jor-El and Zod about essentially feeling the same about all of these things, while going about them in vastly different ways.

That isn't what happened.
