Two Heroes Cut From JLA?

Those who are saying this film won't sell without Bats and Supes to a General Audience that doesnt know the other characters...

The general audience doesnt know Iron Man either but just wait and watch how great that movie will do.

I agree

As i was saying a few times we will just have to wait and see what will be happening with the film.

I don't put much stock into it. I mean why would you make a J.L. film and have the main two heroes reduced in their roles??
If it is true though, I would prolly pass on this. We need some more info, thats for sure.

I just read the article on Rotten Tomatoes. This is such a stupid idea. What are they thinking? They've just cut their fanbase in half w/ this move.

I think the essential difference is, Iron Man is just Iron Man. You can sell Iron Man. However, Superman and Batman are synonomous with JLA. We do not give the general audiences enough credit. Be it through the cartoon, the comics, pop culture references, or even the Super Friends, people generally know who the Justice League of America is. However, it is likely that they could name at most 4 characters (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and maybe The Flash). So right there you are cutting out one half or maybe even 2/3s of the members of the team people consider to be synonomous with the JLA. That is problematic and possibly going to piss people off.

Why people still believe this kind of BS?

I'm not sure people actually 100 % believe it. I think we are just discussing it to have something to discuss. News is pretty much nonexistant at the moment, so why not talk about a rumor that COULD be true?

It's pretty useless, like discussing for 800 pages about a cloth or rubber suit for Batman.
"It's not rubber, it's neoprene!!!!!"

No one is holding you at gun point and making you discuss it though. In fact, by coming in and *****ing about the people who are discussing it, all you are doing is spamming up the thread. If you don't like what they are discussing, just don't click on it.

I still think the article is being misinterpreted big time. I received this bit of info on February 12th, I believe Moviehole received it on the same day. Then Blockbuster ran the same info days later with other sites to follow. Just pointing that out. Also, just because this is what others and I have "heard" doesn't make it true. It is a rumor, but a very strong rumor. You know what they say about rumors, there is always some truth to them somewhere at their foundation.

The synoposis describes the Justice League trying to move forward without two of it's strongest heroes. However, nothing in the synopsis indicates that Superman and Batman are not featured in the script. The Batman story arc where he is kicked out of the JLA due to the aftermath of Brother Eye is nothing new, we heard this months ago. The Superman storyline involved him going rogue due to some manipulation and fighting Wonder Woman and Batman, now we are hearing he dies in a fight with Doomsday. Nothing suggests to me that these heroes are not in the script.

For some reason some of the websites are misinterpreting this to mean Superman and Batman are not in the movie, which I think is a terrible misconception based on the synopsis.

Whatever is the truth, the storylines we have been hearing for this movie all seem better suited for the 2nd or 3rd film in the series.

Agreed entirely. I said that the first time I read the Brother Eye/OMAC story line and this one I felt the same way about. Warners is making this A LOT more complicated than it needs to be. Just use white martians for the first movie. They are a strong, world-wide threat that would bring the JLA together. They are easy to explain and do not require much development which would allow for more focus on developing the heroes. They can make for great SFX but at the same time, it wouldn't be overly expensive as they can shape shift and take human form. It allows for a good middle ground between an action heavy movie and a plot driven movie. Plus Manhunter would be at the fore front. Warners needs to quit over thinking and just go with the most obvious and easy plot.

Alien invasions would be a turn off to the G.A... its not the same thing as a Silver Surfer... that's just one guy. If it was someone like Darkseid then the audience would buy it... but something along the lines of Independence Day won't do as well. Unless they just make the JLA universe 100% fantastical from the start disregarding any solo movies and such. Its still important to ground these movies as close to reality as you possibly can.

It really all depends on how it is handled. I don't think an alien invasion would be a turn off in a movie where it is already established that aliens exisit (Superman, anyone?). When it is advertised as a movie about a bunch of heroes in spandex teaming up, audiences will go in expecting an action heavy, sci-fi/fantasy movie. And it would be no more fantastical than an army of robots flying around.

I'm not suggesting the film will fail w/o Bats and Supes. But rather, like Matt said, they're two of the most prominent heroes that the general audience identifies with.

We just got to sit and play the waiting game some more to see what the hell wb is going to do with jla or not do with jla. And i doubt they would not have superman and batman in the film they are the top dc characters and the general population knows their names and identities so it would be smarter to have them in the film. We will just have to wait and all that cause there has been so much bs with this film.

Well that is from months ago and who knows if he was telling the truth or not. Plus plans could change a moment's notice.

The main thing as i said many times is we dont really know what is happening with the film with all the BS we have got over the yrs and no official word from wb and all that.
