My Penquin uses umbrellas because he sits and takes meetings on his penthouse rootop all day. It's a way to justify the gimmick for a guy who wouldn't really spend much time outdoors in the first place. So it's just a regular umbrella. With a knife and one-round shotgun in it :cwink:

Also it may have a recorder device in it. He takes it to other peoples meetings and "accidentally" leaves it behind, sending goons to pick it up later, so he can hear what they've been saying about him after he left.

this is the penguin, not george costanza, guy

...though jason alexander wouldnt be a bad choice

as far as the umbrella goes, I would like to see one umbrella with a vareity of attachments to it.

I would like to see the initial umbrella be bullet proof.

The tip should fire off also with blade about 6 or 7 inches in length then have there be a modified trigger and a place to attach a clip so that it can convert into a small arms fire machine gun. All combined in the same umbrella.

How about...He has multiple umbrellas for all of those requirements, except for the hypnotizing one...He could go up to the mob like The Joker with a whole bunch of bodyguards holding cases with umbrellas inside, while The Penguin says its money...Opens up the cases and...CABLAMO!

But it's not silly. It's an important part of his image and backstory. A lot more so than the monocle and top hat I'd say.

I hear that...you definitely have to ditch that stupid monocle.

I think he should have an umbrella that has a handle that pulls out into a sword and also shoots bullets, not like a machine gun but more like a six shooter. That's a little more believable then like a fllamethrower.
Can you imagine the look on Batman's face when Penguin fires that thing at him for the first time? He'll be like WTF, mate?
And once he's confronted Batman, I'd imagine he'd come up with a few new umbrellas to help him take the guy out, maybe one that fires poison darts or one where the handle pulls apart and has piano wire attached, you know, for strangling people

ha ha I totaly forgot about that. I was trying to think of a way the umbrella could be used more duplicitously. I can see Jonah coming up with something sneaky and unexpected that way, part of a Penguin plot, and the planted recorder trick just came to mind. and yeah I have posted pics of Costanza in Penguin threads before :funny:

Yeah, that's what I would go with.

Since Nolan's movies were grounded in realism , In order for that tone not to be taken away he needs to have the followinf from the Poll

The Machine Gun
The Flame Thrower
Hang Glider
Bullet Proof Shield
And a Hypnotic Spin Umbrella

Something thats not on the poll he could have is a pull out sword.

I think a machete, spear, machine gun and flamethrower are probably the most realistic.

As long as there is no laser, and he can't use it to fly he (Penguins don't fly anyways), its fine.

What if he only uses the umbrella at one point in the film, as a sort of homage?

Example: Say he's one of the heads of Wayne Enterprises; a "legitimate business man". He's smuggling some sort of illegal goods (who cares what) for the main villain in the movie, but a Wayne Enterprises security officer starts sniffing around. The officer informs Cobblepot who then accompanies him to a garage belonging to W.E. (where the goods are). It's raining, so Cobblepot has an umbrella and after he finds out everything that the officer knows, he fidgets with his umbrella for a moment pretending there is something wrong with it, and as soon as the officer gets close enough he shoots him with a pistol through the umbrella. Just an idea.

One idea I had to replace the monocle, and yet have it be represented in a cool way for the Nolan universe would be to have him have a glass eye, with an ugly scar around it.

If the Joker can have a knife in his shoe, the Penguin can have whatever he wants in his umbrella :woot:

Those two are the only ones he should have. Maybe a machine gun instead of a shotgun, but still a gun and a sword. The Penguin should have his umbrella sword because he knows how to handle one so he should have a sword fight with batman.

imo he should use an umbrella as a parachute

that would be mad fly yo
