Underworld: Next Generation

First two films were great, then the ones after that just made everything go all over the place.

This franchise was a massive waste of potential. Though the first two films could have been better, they succeeded in building a rich mythology. The franchise also had a nice following in the mid 2000s, too.

I'd say Fast and the Furious succeeded where Underworld failed. The Fast producers eventually figured out that audiences actually did want to see the characters and their stories continue, and weren't just showing up for the slick chases and shiny rides. Not to mention giving the cast enough meaty material to make them want to come back for more.

But with Underworld, especially when they got to the 4th one, they never really had enough faith in their characters to make them a reliable selling point beyond the promise of the awesomely choreographed R-rated monster battles.

I felt that way, too. It could've ended with Evolution and I'd have been happy. But I've still had fun with the other two, so bring on Next Generation. Hopefully it entails a truce or something. Finally. I imagine a sequel to even this film, though, but we'll have to see.

Few days old now, but it has a name!

Underworld Blood Wars is the Title for the Fifth Installment

UNDERWORLD BLOOD WARSKATE BECKINSALE MOVIE NEWS THEO JAMES
BY CS ON APRIL 12, 2016

Underworld Blood Wars is the title for the fifth installment

Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment announced today that Underworld Blood Wars will be the name for the fifth installment of the series, which features Kate Beckinsale returning as Selene. Underworld Blood Wars is scheduled to open in theaters on October 14, 2016.

Theo James (The Divergent Series) returns as Selene’s ally David, reprising the role he played in Underworld: Awakening. British actors Tobias Menzies (“Outlander”, “Rome”) and Lara Pulver (“Sherlock”) take on the respective roles of a formidable new Lycan leader and a fiercely ambitious Vampire, and Charles Dance (“Game of Thrones”) again plays Vampire elder Thomas. Rounding out the film’s stellar international cast are: James Faulkner (“Game of Thrones”), Peter Andersson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), newcomer Clementine Nicholson, Bradley James (A&E’s upcoming “Damien”) and Daisy Head (the upcoming Fallen).

Anna Foerster is the director of Underworld Blood Wars. Foerster, who previously directed episodes of the television series “Criminal Minds” and “Outlander,” is widely known for her work as cinematographer on epic blockbusters such as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and White House Down.

The screenplay for Underworld Blood Wars was penned by Cory Goodman (The Last Witch Hunter, Priest) and based on characters originally created by Kevin Grevioux, Len Wiseman and Danny McBride. Lakeshore Entertainment’s Tom Rosenberg (The Lincoln Lawyer, Million Dollar Baby), Gary Lucchesi (Million Dollar Baby, Underworld), and Richard S. Wright (The Lincoln Lawyer, Underworld) are producing as are David Kern (Underworld: Awakening), along with Len Wiseman (Underworld, Total Recall).

Foerster’s accomplished behind-the-scenes team comprises cinematographer Karl W. Lindenlaub (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Independence Day), production designer Ondrej Nekvasil (Snowpiercer), costume designer Bojana Nikitovic (A Good Day to Die Hard), and editor Peter Amundson (Pacific Rim, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans).

Underworld: Blood Wars Gets New 2017 Release Date

It appears Underworld fans won't have their fix until early 2017.

The newest iteration of the fan favorite series sees the return of star Kate Beckinsale in the role of vampire Selene and is officially titled Underworld: Blood Wars. The film was originally announced at CinemaCon and was dated for October 14th of this year. Since then the date has been pushed back, with the film now opening on January 6th, 2017 (via Box Office Mojo).

No reason is known for the push back, but other films opening in the same time frame include Kevin Hart's new stand-up film What Now?, Tom Hank's Inferno, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (starring Tom Crusie) and Max Steel.

While the lead in the film will be a familiar face, there is a new person in the director's chair. Anna Foerster, of Outlander fame, is at the helm of Blood Wars, which debuts a new leader of the Lycan army, played by Tobias Menzies, as well as a new vampire in Lara Pulver.

As for Foerster, Beckinsale has nothing but praise for the director, as she told Larry King earlier this year.

"(she's been) fantastic, I didn't notice any difference really. I mean she was great."

That notice any difference part of that was in response to Larry's point that she is the first female director of the series. Fans will have to wait a few more months to see her take on the series, but hopefully, it will be worth the wait

There Are No Set Pics or Official Stills Out There right i mean nothing besides The Logo ?

I been yearning for Underworld to be adapted to a Starz series, this franchise could thrive so much on tv.

QUESTION!!!!

My wife and I have been fans of the series since the first movie....I have them all on DVD and we occasionally pull them out for a marathon. Today we were looking through Netflix and decided to watch the first one, UNDERWORLD, on it. In the flashback scenes concerning Victor's daughter Sonja....instead of it being the model from the original movie and DVD playing her, they have now put in scenes of Rhona Mitra from UNDERWORLD:RISE OF THE LYCANS where she played her.

Does anyone know if the producers have released it this way on DVD?

Wow that's a good question. Didn't know this myself until u just mentioned it.

Imdb trivia says that newer home releases of the first film have the Rise of the Lycans Sonja footage but i don't know how reliable that is. I don't mind though, i liked how the prequel did it and Rhona as Sonja.

I'm pretty sure my DVD edition has the original opening in it, seeing as I got it before the pre-sequels came out. I don't know if it is still possible to find it or if there is an alternate version with it still intact though.

It really caught us by surprise that Netflix had done that. I want to buy a DVD if it has put the newer footage in it.

I have a DVD from before any of the sequels were made, so it of course has the original Sonja. After the sequels were made, when we watch them in marathons we start with RISE OF THE LYCANS, and the original model/actress now stands out like a sore thumb. I would love to buy a new DVD of the first movie if they have replaced her with Rhona in them now.

I was looking this up and it seems it hasn't made it to DVD or Blu-ray yet. They did not announce it, and apparently even the credits still list the original actress. So perhaps be on the look out for a new release when the new film comes out.

There is an Underworld:Extended edition. Try looking into that and straigt up asking on amazon, you'll get an answer within hours.

Interesting, I was wondering if they would ever do that. Ill have to watch the Netflix version some time.

The commentary track on Rise of the Lycans mentioned plans to do that.

Here is the official synopsis from Sony

The next installment in the blockbuster franchise, UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.

No Michael again Scott must hates these movies lol & is she a dead beat mom as well ?

Yeah no mention of the kid lol although was never a fan of that part of the film.
Selene doesn't seem like a motherly person XD

At least Michael had the decent excuse that he was captured against his will last time. Or are we gonna find out that Michael is now a stay at home dad taking care of the kid not wanting any part of this war while mom gets to have all of the fun. At least have one single throw away line about both

I heard somewhere that Michael's in this movie, and he's played by a different actor like with Awakening.
