I can't wait to see Moriarty against Holmes. It has to be done in a very clever way. He has to be unpredictable and be able to outwit Holmes. He has to know this man is unlike anyone he's ever faced. If Moriarty is to Holmes like the Joker is to Batman is has to be done in the right way.

I guess Ed Tolputt played and voiced Moriarty in this...

whoever did it has a great voice for it

loved the music in the movie as well....great score

I thought RDJ did a fantastic job as Holmes, and Law as Watson was very good. His fiance was a little scary, but I actually liked her by the end of the movie. Can't say that for Rachel McAdams character, and I usually really like her in movies. BUT, IMO I would have much rather have seen Rachel Weisz as that character. IMO, the weakest part of the movie was the chemistry between Robert and Rachel.

But, overall I give the movie an 8.

If you haven't seen it, be ready for Ritchie's love of exposition.

I like McAdams, but her character wasn't very important IMO. It seemed like she was there to add a love interest for Holmes and be part of the hint at the sequel. Otherwise, she was kind of useless.

However, great score, great job Downey, great job Law, film had a nice style, it was entertaining start to finish, and had a good story (though not really any major twists). Definately one of the most entertaining films of the year.

I thought what was happening between Holmes and Adler was good enough. Anymore it would of been straight up romantic, which is why I'm glad they cut the lingerie scene.

I agree Doc about not turning it into another romantic entanglement, but then we needed an actress that was going to make Adler excting with such a thin character. I actually want to see Watson's fiancee again, but I could care less if Adler shows up.

Chemistry doesn't always have to be about romance, love, etc...and I didn't need the chemistry here to be one of romance, I just didn't see a chemistry of rivals, equals, etc...I just simply saw "no" chemistry...and that was a weak portion for me, that's all.

well it is Sherlock Holmes, isn't exposition all a part of it??

Yes, definitely, which I love...but if some are going strictly by the trailers, they may have more exposition than they were counting on...

oh god forbid we ask the people to actually pay attention for longer than 30 secconds

Hmm I see what you mean there. Yeah, Rachel didn't do much for me, and I think it was her. Hot as she was, she had the most forgettable performance. But how her character was played was fine.

I'd be cool if RDJ won the Golden Globe.

I hope this film gets some recognition Oscar time. In a perfect world, (at least for me) I would like to see RDJ nominated, but I know that ain't happening. I would love to see cinematography and editing get nominated.

Calm down.......:cwink:

What I mean is....it showed majority of action and one-liners...therefore that might lead one to believe that it is going to roll along those lines, and it didn't...it actually, IMO brought the exposition of Holmes to the screen quite well...but that might not be "all that" for someone going into it for the action and one-liners...

Costuming will definitely get a nod, and I could see cinematography getting a nod as well...

i found the movie to be far more enjoyable than I initially thought it would be. Despite a considerable higher amount of action it never felt unlike a sherlock holmes story. On the contrary it felt more like an old sherlock story than most of the other movies did. 100 years of movies have greatly made sherlock quite dull, when in fact in the stories he is quite the odd person that RDJ made him.

I thought the plot was good and everything had a decent setup. The way sherlock and watson were faced with the supernatural that defied their logic but later was revealed to be just clever trickory reminded me very much of The Hound of Basckervilles. The movie felt to me like a mishmash of Sherlock Holmes, The Prestige and and the good elements of National Treasure.

There was some very sketchy cg on the bridge at the end though. Really by todays standards that was really really bad.

Absolutely loved it.
As far as I know, they nailed everything that made Sherlock so unique in the novels, and injected just *enough* new things to make him feel a bit fresher.
I'm extremely happy with how faithful it was to the novels, even if it focused a bit more on this brawn, which as sooooo many people have already stated, was one of his qualities in the novels.
Can't wait for the surely to be made part 2, and I will watch it again.

Btw, excellent article with the fight choreographer. Some very cool facts about Victorian martial arts, RDJ's Wing Chun training, and the guy who played McMurdo.

I have to agree...I just can't wait to see the lingerie scene as an extra when it comes home to video though. :woot:

Oh, same here. And I think they cut out a couple lines or scenes. I remember Lestrade saying to Holmes in the trailer, "This might be a hobby to you Holmes, but I do it for a living."

I think they antagonizing between them was reduced in this cut.

But what was still there was amusing.

"That's not Blackwood!"

"Thanks to Mr. Lestrade we all know the obvious."
:lmao:

Hahaha. I did happen to like a lot of the humour in the film.

The humor was great.

I hope in the sequel they don't go the Jack Sparrow route and focus on the humor more than the plot.

I know right! That suit he wore to the dinner was awesome.

The fashions in this movie were actually quite fantastic. Did anyone else love Holmes' look in the cemetery scene? The one with the black glasses.

It would be fantastic if shops started selling clothes like that again because of the movie.
