Thanks for the explanation but i guess we disagree on that.
If the concept of the Green Lanterns is not ridiculous, then why is the JL ridiculous so that it cant be adapted in live action? If anything, JL has had some great stories along the years.
For example the Cadmus arc that spanned the whole 3rd season of the JL animated show is one of my favourite comic book stories.
Heh...exciting ain't it..Another insider.

It's not rocket science. WB always seems to over complicate things with Superman for some reason..It wouldn't necessarily be about whether or not a fan, such as yourself, feels the concept is ridiculous. What matters, is how would the general public look at it.

It's simple. Hire a proven director that has delivered blockbusters in the past, hire great writer(s), hire a slam dunk of a cast, stay as close as possible to the classic suit, have lots of action, make the film fun, bright, and uplifting but with soul, and for the love of God give Superman a superpowered villain(s) to fight.
I was talking about the general audience. Why would the JL be more ridiculous to them than the GLs?It wouldn't necessarily be about whether or not a fan, such as yourself, feels the concept is ridiculous. What matters, is how would the general public look at it.
Yes, indeed. It depends on how it's made. The general public won't geek out because it's the culmination of thier dreams....they'll go if it looks good.

Space cops with rings that make light constructs according to their wishes. Their enemies have yellow rings.
Their bosses are blue dwarfs with powers.
Etc...

The GA would love it if done right.

'Right' by whose standards, though?
It's a tough call....mainly because of having all those bright costumes together. It's one thing if there's just one, or even two. But throw in Wonder Woman in that gold corset and blue panties, Flash with full red tights/mask, GL, and Supes...I dunno. Not to take anything away from how it works in comics or animation, but I think it'll be a tougher sell in live action. Maybe if they stylize the live-action/CG mix somewhat like they did with Sky Captain. I realize that for some comic fans, characters wearing those costumes in real life speaks to a certain dream-come-true of theirs...but I'd rather that they maintain the comic-ness via animation but use CG to give it an epic film-like scope.

Not really a strong case here.Have you seen some of the costume suggestions in the WW thread? They replace the panties with a battle skirt. It doesn't look campy or silly at all IMO.
Why? If we're talking about Nolan's uber realistic Batman, then maybe yes he couldnt work in the JL. But a more canonical batman version could. So why cant there be a more canonical batman who has his own movie franchise and is part of the JL? Everyone's favourite, BTAS Batman was part of the JL and lost nothing by doing so. In fact he was a great asset. They should probably leave Batman out of it, unless they'll just have a Batman in JL that's unrelated to the Nolan movies.
But... WHY? Superman has already had a thousand origin stories printed. Jesus Christ.DC just announced today Superman Earth One, another origin story written by JMS which takes place outside of continuity. Its coming out in Graphic Novel form. Basically WB can't say they don't have enough origin stories to pull from now. There's an interview up on AICN and its posted in the dc comics board as well.

Yeah well, BTAS is really what started all of that to begin with...it grew into Timm & crew doing Superman, then the JL....so in many ways, that Batman was, from the outset, the cornerstone of the entire world established from there onwards. This is different. If they feel they need to establish a common ground for these characters, they'll have to do it from here no out in the movies. But then...what if GL starts around now, another Superman starts in six years..and another Batman in eight? That's partly why I think if they do a JL, just have it be that movie, and introduce the individual characters with a short prologue/montage in the beginning with perhaps a narration....kind of a mythical setup like the beginning of the first LOTR...but without having to connect the heros to the continuities of any previous character movies. Othewise, if they want to keep them all connected before even getting there, they'd probably have to start them all around the same time pretty soon....and as it stands, the franchises are all in different places along their own development and/or reinvention.Everyone's favourite, BTAS Batman was part of the JL and lost nothing by doing so.
