Exactly. All this about actors needing to look exactly alike to play fathers and sons or mothers and daughters is over the top.

I think it's mostly coming from the fact that pre-New 52 Hippolyta looked very similar to Diana, even donning the WW suit in the past, so it's not being mentioned just for the sake of it.

But the argument that they should look alike because it's the Zeus origin doesn't make sense, because they looked alike when she was made of clay, but not now that they're blood related.

(Hippolyta was also blonde from the silver age until the Crisis, in the DCAU - where they're also blood related - and in other versions like Injustice)

And considering they wanted Cate Blanchett, I don't think they are looking for someone who is necessarily similar to Gal.

Was someone arguing that? I'd certainly prefer it for them to look alike, more for the fact that I'm not thrilled by visual connection of Diana with Zeus (if they make it so that her features come from her father) than anything else, but both approaches are legit.

Oscar winner Nicole Kidman is in ongoing negotiations to play a high-ranking Amazonian warrior alongside Gal Gadot in WB’s “Wonder Woman,” an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

While Kidman’s potential role has yet to be confirmed, the Queen of the Amazons in the “Wonder Woman” comics is Hyppolyta, who also happens to be Diana Prince’s biological mother — though it’s unclear whether the film will remain faithful to that storyline.

Well yeah, who else. It makes no sense to me to cast someone of her name recognition in a minor role, so if it's a major role it doesn't seem to be someone other than Hyppolita. Kidman is 48(and still fine af) so who else can she play on an island full of 20 something looking Amazons, other than their queen. I'm beyond happy if this "scoop" is legit.
