We are Amazons!! The Amazonians Casting Thread - Part 1

Which reminds me... given that Lawless also made a "she looks like Xena" comment when the official pic of Gadot came out, she shouldn't be cast in million years.

But seriously, I'm getting sick of Carter and Lawless suggestions. Keep them both the hell away from WW solo.

Agreed on both accounts.

Online fanboys/girls are predictable as the tides.

No thanks. She's rather wooden, and she's hardly going to add much gravitas to the role in the same way an Oscar winner or decent actress would.

I honestly don't see what's wrong with having Linda Carter as Hippolyta. Obviously she's very beautiful and looks like she can emobdy that role very well (and it's not like it's going to be a big part).

It won't happen.

Make peace with it.

Linda Carter = Night Nurse in the Marvel Universe or Kellie Bright's character in Eastenders.

Lynda Carter = Wonder Woman actress.

And Lynda's voice is actually sounding rather like an old woman these days.

Because she's 64. You know women are allowed to age and not be stuck at 25 in your head.

I just wish we didn't gave too much credit for some Oscar winners. Kidman has been horrible in many movies and even got a Razzie (like many Oscar winners). I wish she does well in WW if true, but it could end up being bad too, and other actresses overlooked here could "add depth" even if they aren't prize winners.

I just wish ppl would stop bringing up actors just cause they played the role a long time ago. Someone give Keaton a cameo.

and what has Lynda Carter done of note other than plying WW in a TV series? At least Kidman is a class actor of note.

But the likes of Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren, both of whom are older, don't sound as old as Lynda Carter. And it's not like they had surgery to sound younger. And plenty of other women of the same age don't sound as old. I'm not saying women aren't allowed to age. I'm saying Lynda specifically, not women of 64 years old in general, sounds old.

Listen to her for yourself. Close your eyes and don't look at who is speaking, or don't watch the video but just listen to the sound.

Listen particularly from the 1.57 mark, although really all the video demonstrates it. If you didn't know it was her speaking, it could sound like a little old lady.

Eh, I don't want this turn into diminishing Carter's career etc, but she won't be in the movie. Period. I just don't get why some still bring her up. We know she won't be.

Not diminishing it alt all man but how does her playing WW in the 70's mean she would be appropriate for the role Kidman is up for?

I'm not a huge Kidman fan but Oscars or no the woman is a solid actress. She's not very good at comedy but she is a solid dramatic actress.

Kidman is so very clearly a better actress than Carter and is actually a movie actress. What other note worthy role has Carter played besides Wonder Woman in a 70's show? Wonder Woman is going to be a 150+ million dollar feature film, it's not a television show. I have nothing against Carter at all but she wouldn't add much to the film as an actress.

For starters, I'm not saying she should be Hippolyta, I don't want her to be Hippolyta. I'm talking about any actress who is being overlooked just because Kidman has an oscar.

But in any case, her performances in Smallville and Law & Order were great. She has specially played the role of "emotional mother" many times, so she would be suited for the role if that was the case.

She also has experience voicing warriors in the Elder Scrolls games.

My opinion is that she should play a role in the movie, either as someone like Julia Kapatelis, someone from the Army or one of the goddesses (specially Athena), but not as Hippolyta.

On one hand, I'd like this new WB team to honor Lynda in some way, yet they also need to distance themselves from Lynda's campy TV version. They don't have a lot of wiggle room.

And, you are right. Lynda is timeless except her voice has def aged. Maybe in a future solo WW sequel Lynda could play Julia Kapatelis. Give her a short grey wig and makeup to age her. But honestly Streep is my fav for Kapatelis. Probably won't happen, but a fanboy can dream.

There's no need to be visually accurate with Julia, also no need to have an actress like Streep on a small role (unless she is willing to do without asking for too much money, which is doubtful)

Wait, over looked by us fans or casting director?

Most of us seem to be focusing on Kidman cause she is the one rumored to be in negotiations that's why. I personally don't want to see Carter in the movie and it seems like we won't.

By "us" (not just us in here, but fans in general), who promptly claims "she has an Oscar! she can add depth!" everytime someone suggests somebody else.

Actually, I'm really starting to hate this "add depth" line.

She brings in a bit of cred and that's good. But folks on here for the most part have not been dismissive of other actresses not named Kidman, except for Carter in this particular role. lol

Kidman was never even on my list for the role.

Thing is she could be great in the role too (but again, I don't want her in the role for being too on the nose and she's not looking young enough anymore)...

I know it's on TV and y'all consider it gimmicky... but take John Wesley Shipp for instance. He hasn't done much work after the original Flash, and he isn't particularly an well known or well regarded actor... but he is AMAZING as Henry Allen and I can't see anyone else in the role. An Oscar winning actor may not have portrayed the character as well as he did.

That is a Television show though. You can't cast a film like it's a television show.

Lynda Carter is a TV level actress. If this were a WW show, maybe she could've been Hippolyta, but having her in the part for a big movie will make it seem more like a TV production.

Honestly, Carter would be better suited for a cameo ala Stan Lee. Not that she's not qualified, just don't think theres a need for her to be in film.
