Well...it seems there isn't really gonna be a TIH2.

Perhaps if he is a fan-favorite in The Avengers he'll get a second chance. Whens the Tv series suppose to air anyways? I'm assuming they won't have it ready until after The Avengers film is released.

The only way Hulk/Banner becomes fan-favorite is Bruce Banner and Tony Stark make a Geek Clique.

Or if Hulk has some cool lines kicks some serious ass once he becomes an Avenger (like Avengers:EMH).

I'm sorry but, as much as I am a fan of the character, in a big way, you can count me out of any Hulk T.V series, it simply wont have the budget or talent necessary (I know GDT is involved, but with all the movies he has lined up it wont be for long) to do the character justice, its movies or nothing for me.

Have you not seen the Bill Bixby show...?

^Yes, it was okay in its day, but now looks atrocious, something like that just wont fly with me or today's audiences.

I'll admit, there have been times I've been reading an FF and there has been some world-threatening event going on and I've thought: "Well where are the Avengers as all this is going on?"

I've always quietly wondered this when it comes to the films .... but then again I think about everything.

now i heard tha Lou" Ferrigno doent wont the hulk in the avgner hesaid it would run theh ulk imiage.

Honestly not every hero has solo movie appeal to the masses. Honestly I think the problem has been Hulk has no personality and they haven't had that villain that makes you want to watch. TIH loved the film but turning off my hulk filters its basically Hulk vs another monster. You know who is going to win so no real need to see the film in the theater. Hulk movies didn't really fail(like Warzone fail). They just didn't set the market on fire enough to warrant funding another film right away.

But punisher has also failed twice.

Wrong. 2004 film made a respectable profit, the box office was pretty good, and its DVD sales were fantastic (#1 for a long time). It was even such a mild success that a sequel was greenlighted.

And its disappointing that there wont be another Hulk sequel. But who knows, maybe its for the best.

Look at it this way....in the old show, even though the Hulk's appearances each ep were only a couple of minutes out of 40mins, they built up the anticipation for his appearances with the surrounding Banner drama so well, that the Hulk outs usually always delivered in your estimation.
Of course the Bixby show would not be good enough for today's audience, but the new show will be on a completely different level of dramatisation. I guess it will be more along the lines of 24, the government hunting down the hulk, with Banner doing his plain clothes superhero thing, until the Hulk is needed.
Yeah, I defo think the Hulk is better suited for tv, esp if they are doing him as a mute, and essentially just a big action sfx, cause with tv, you can focus more on the Banner human drama, and build that up each week, and you don't need a huge budget for that, just good writing.
In the old show, Banner was the superhero as much as the Hulk side, noticing something was wrong, investigating etc, and then you had the other eps , where he was chasing down a cure.

i think ruffalo has a tought job ahead of him.
he as to make the hulk the best in the avengers
he has to act his poor heart out. i want the audience walking out and saying "omg the green one was so cool, why doesn't he have his own movie?"

give us the hulk that speaks
i think thats where all these movies go wrong.
they limit the hulk to a plot device rather than a character.

let him comment about whats going around him

i can see the hulk giving most of the comic relief in avengers(but he wont know he's being funny)

calling iron man a robot
calling captain america flag man
calling thor hammer man

hawkeye tries shooting hulk with arrows and hulk just laughs.

i think banner also needs to out science stark in a scene to show his skills.
i think with a proper hulk in avengers they can turn this whole thing around.
i loved TIH btw

Yep, this is a good point, we could get lots of comedy out of a talking Hulk. We got some good comedic moments out of the old show with the mute Hulk interacting with people, but that could be even better with some well written Hulk 'dumbisms'.

edit: and yeah, they were so concerned with folk taking the Hulk seriously in those two movies, that they missed out on something that was a large part of the appeal of the Hulk cbs, seeing him interacting with, and trying to figure out, the world from his child like point of view, his interactions with ordinary people, and their reactions to him.

I just wish someone from Marvel would take some responsibilty for TIH's performance, I dont care what anyone says, the 2003 didnt hurt TIH, the late and terrible marketing did, we got our first teaser 3 months before the movie was out, now this is okay for a sequel to a successful franchise, but not for the first movie in a series, especially a re-boot, not to mention the marketing when it did come did nothing to establish TIH as a re-boot.

Marvel are all well and good saying there wont be more Hulk movies, but at the end of the day its their own fault.

I'm sad we won't see a sequel as I loved TIH's. But I also think Hulk is just not a character a lot of non-fans can get into. Infact, every non-comic fan I know who loves comic book movies doesn't like the CHARACTER Hulk...not just the movie, but the whole character.

A lot of non-comic fan moviegoers just think of the Hulk as some dumb, mindless monster who roars and smashes things. It can be hard enough sometimes bringing a non-comic fan to a comic movie, but at least with all the other characters they seem to have some level of intelligence (even if the Hulk does, and can be genius level, but they don't know that because of the way he looks). I think he's the hardest sell to the general audience. In the comics he works, and is a first tier character. I think in the movies he's more of a second or third tier character.

I think Hulk suffers from being a superhero, yet not being a superhero. People expect certain things from a superhero, and the Hulk by all means is not truly a superhero. He has super powers and such, but the Hulk is more a force of nature who happens to come across villains and such in his journey to keep the monster inside in check.

He also prob suffers from what some people hate about Superman: being too powerful. The perception is Hulk is too powerful, so why should I care? He smashes things and can't lose. Which, is in part true. But, I love the dual nature of Hulk/Banner and the psychology of the character, so I really hope Avengers gives him a push and a sequel...with THE LEADER!!!

Pity, I thought Norton & TIH film itself did a far better job than Ang Lee/Bana's version.

It's a shame it didn't do a little better commercially as I'd have liked to have seen more of that Hulk inside his own universe.

I think the Avengers cartoon proves how you can utilize the Hulk in the Avengers format well. However, it involves actually CHARACTERIZING the Hulk.

I was thinking about this some more ......

I think the Avengers could be a litmus test for the possibility of a future Hulk solo venture ..... However, Ruffalo is sort of right about the age situation. IMO Ruffalo will not sell a solo Hulk film like an Edward Norton should've (we've all discussed the marketing problems a thousand times ). Ruffalo just isn't that kind of draw.

Secondly, there is only so much screen time the for the actual CGI character due to budgetary constraints so the contrast between the non-assuming Banner and the primal beast aspect of Hulk is important. Having an intelligently speaking Hulk would strip that edge. Contrary to a lot of opinions he did speak a few times in TIH. Do I think they could add a few more lines? Sure.

Again, these are just my opinions but I really do find the Hulk better served as the wildcard ..... like a weapon that's hard to aim, but when aimed correctly the target has no idea what's coming to them.

I think, and I don't mean to be mean to anyone, that fanboys are generally kinder to The Incredible Hulk more than it really deserves. It was an alright action film but the pacing was a bit off and if it wasn't so excited to get to the action it probably would have been a better film which would have been reflected in the box office.

I think for the next Hulk franchide they should learn from both Hulk franchises and have Ang's storytelling with Letterier's action. That would equal a good Hulk film.

It can be done.

I agree Silvermoth. It was good but extremely flawed.

For starters, Betty and Bruce never mention or talk about her boyfriend that she's living with and just dumps at the drop of a hat once Bruce is back. It felt emotionally irresponsible. The character was apparently Leonard Samson but we never even learn his name in the movie!

They said his name in the movie.
