Well...it seems there isn't really gonna be a TIH2.

the storytelling in Hulk was awful. what was interesting was the themes. repressed childhood anger/trauma manifesting as anxiety, sins of the father etc. many of these themes aren't comic hulk accurate tho.

What hulk comics have you read LOL...or haven't...I mean.

we've only seen marvel studios' hulk not being attacked in the cave scene. he's not mindless because he can recognize threats sometimes mistakes things for threats, not just to himself but to betty. and deal with them in an intelligent way using his skills and tools. he's a lesser educated human not a beast. maybe he can learn to talk more, if given the opportunity.

i think the film hulk is more like the 80s cartoon hulk than the tv one.

To be fair to the movie makers, the Hulk in TIH was not a complete mindless animal, but he was much closer to an animal than any of the more vocal incarnations from the comics, including the Savage Hulk, who is extremely vocal. I loved the cave scene but, again it showed a lack of intelligence. You may have a point about the 80's cartoon.

I read somewhere that Marvel Studio's original intent was to show a maturity of Hulk, a growth....I don't like it. Just give us a Hulk that can hold a conversation.

This is the Hulk that should have been used in the franchise from the beginning. He's extremely versatile I especially like how he speaks normal, but when he gets angry, he starts talking in third person. He's pretty much the same Hulk that has been used in the comic book since TIH issue #77 after the horrible Bruce Jones run. He's known as the Gravage and Green Scar by we fans.

Its possible that Banner on the run just isn't enough. Hulk needs a real personality. I think they should take inspiration from the current comics. Hulk is okay smart but bit of a sob to Banner. Banner is no longer a victim and may actually be worse.

Finally he just needs a bag guy who makes Hulk a hero. Planet Hulk, this Hulk bad guy team recently ..........all would attract people because it wouldn't just be

Banner on the run trying to cure himself or a creature that can't speak or emote anything but smash.

Avengers has been great at showing how good Hulk material can be with Hulk in a team environment.

. Banner is no longer a victim and may actually be worse.

I love the fact that Banner is finally being treated as a force to be reckoned with, and not just "Hulk's puny half." And a smarter Hulk makes it even better.

Now if we could just de-Hulk the comic's supporting players....

If Hulk comes off well in the Avengers, he will get a sequel some day - just like in the comics...

For me this was the biggest problem with the Hulk mythos...Banner was never really fleshed out as a character until Greg Pak entertained him. Stan Lee laid the foundation, but most of Banner's personality was tossed aside for the desperate lonely man. Bill Mantlo and Peter David actually did fine jobs with adding to the Banner aspect of the character, but Pak really did him justice. I want to see some of the clever resourcefulness of Banner in the Avengers movie.

Hulk has plenty of villains that could make him look heroic. I still believe the problem stems from the fact Hulk is more animal than intelligent. He should be able to express his desires this way, his actions won't be left to interpretation.

I agree with your last statement.

Hulk basically failed twice to get a movie franchise off the ground. Doing yet another movie would be another big financial investment no less than $150 million. So its better to just incorporate him into AVENGERS for now instead of continuing solo-Hulk movies. Hulk has not performed well enough to justify a continuing movie franchise yet.

That's because they made the mistake of releasing another Hulk film so close to Ang Lee version. People just assumed it was more of the same and didn't bother to go.

weeeeeeeeeeeelll, I don't know about that. I think fanboys are kinder to the Incredible Hulk than perhaps it deserves. I think if Ed Norton had been allowed to keep more of the quieter moments in the film it would have had a better critical response and more people would have been enticed to see it.

That said, I think it's more than high time there was a Hulk cartoon going on. I want to see more of Hulk's supporting cast like Leonard Samson and She Hulk.

TIH didn't make much because it wasn't that good of a film; I can understand HULK failing at the time because of the arthouse take but TIH was very dull. Lots of character exposition and only three Hulk action sequences to five in the first film is not a balanced improvement.

Regardless, there should have been another Hulk film out with Ruffalo having taken over after TIH's/2009. Just get another director who gets the entire Banner/Hulk idea like Lee did, but make it more commercial for the average moviegoer.

What I think the sequel needs is a deeper story, and not reducing Hulk to a plot device. TIH was a good film, but it had limited substance. I think the main reason for this was that we didn't really get into the mind of Banner and the Hulk (the closest we got to this was the cave scene). Some of the deleted scenes would have been perfect to have in the film, and would have provided some substance (I loved the dinner table scene and the one where Banner pours his heart out to Betty at the campus). Also, Hulk needs to be a character in himself. He needs to have a personality. The audience WILL NOT connect to a mute beast with no personality. That's one of the things that Avengers: EMH has gotten right. The Hulk is a character with appeal. He doesn't just show up and smash stuff. He actually has stuff to say about the situation. Now, this could be cheesy in the films if not handled right, but with the right talent, a sequel can work. I really do want a sequel. I love Hulk, and am hoping for a movie that can strike audiences. And let Ruffalo stay Banner. Can we have the same actor for more than one movie, please?

BTW, I'm interested to see WHERE a sequel would pick up, judging that Banner is an ally to SHIELD now and really has no reason to run anymore.

Can the sequel work as a fall/winter movie, a date when there's not much competing movies for 3D screen etc?

I endorse this posting.:woot:

So we've decided the Incredible Hulk could do with some better character work for a sequel. So who could possibly direct an Incredible Hulk sequel?

With Ruffalo as the star of course.

a sequel could pick up with the leader, or any other hulk villain. he does fight people from time to time, besides the army and shield. only bad thing is no fantastic four or x-men can be used so there goes some fun fights. i guess the leader would be the best for a sequel.

Guillermo Del Toro since he was supposed to work on the Hulk television show or Paul Greengrass of Bourne Supremacy and Borune Ultimatum fame, I love his raw style for Hulk.
