I think it's a combination of things, but not Ratner. Ratner was brought in to direct the film, the script had been written already. Directors are paid by the producers to direct a script, with time and budget constraints, I doubt Ratner would be able to walk into the producers and say, "let's rewrite this".

I'm as pissed as anyone that they've made a mockery of this film, but I think it's wrong to blame this on Ratner. I think he honestly tried to do the best job with what he had.

Actually, I remember in the set reports a couple months back, one of the producers said that all fans of every character would be pleased.

It's not just the writers lying.

Yeah that soon changed into Simon's apology speech...

FOX wanted to cash in on Hugh and Halle, and to keep Logan the focus of the movie...boy, did FOX miscalculate this one. Wolverine won't do half the box office the X-Men films did.

This is the only X-Men film with two name actors above the title.

It's also bad writing. If Fox told you to kill him, you could have given him a great action scene where he fights for survival. You could have made the X-Men really grieve and mourn for him. Given him a grand fineral with the entire cast present. So YES, I do blame Kinberg and Penn, too.

It's not Ratner (heck he considered Jimmy for Superman himself)
It's not Halle (she just wanted Storm to have character and personality)

Ratner did make changes, but he isn't one to rock the boat.

As I was told, Ratner chooses the path of least resistance, which is why studios LOVE him. He won't fight and argue with the execs.

Still, if its never shown, we can each believe what we want regardless of what the characters in the movie believe happened to him.

Hugh hasn't had smashing success as a leading actor either. Just look at Van Hellstink. That movie sucked so bad, even the DVD couldn't sell.

All of the above.

It damn sure wasn't because it made sense, story-wise.

and it doesn't really complete the Cyclops story arc at all:(

I voted All of the above. But I blame most of it on Rothman.

All of the Above. I agree, But that chioce got 6 votes.

Halle's insistence on a better role (NOT LARGER) did not have anything to do with Cyclops' demise. If anything...it was Wolverine. The writers could've easily made Logan's role slightly smaller...I don't think anyone will deny the fact that Logan is front and centre in the X-Men movies.

the role in superman. its too obvious that's why he was killed johnny cage style.

whatever the case, she has it.

I voted God hates Cyclops fans, mainly because he was screwed over so bad, only God......or more likely satan could truly be behind it.

Any way, in all seriousness, It was all the factors except Halle, Ratner and whats good for the story.

I'm not going to blame Ratner for anything really, because he barely did anything. The performances all look good and the visual look is impressive enough so he did his job well. I think it's a shame that if people hate the movie they will blame him, when the blame belongs more to the producers and writers. They could have atleast had Cyke say something relative to the plot of the cure and interact with more than two characters. We never got any sense of where cyclops stood on any issue in the movies. Besides that he doesn't like Wolverine.............well who does anymore?

Agreed . . . I also heavily blame the studio . . . the only thing that gets me about Ratner, is that I don't like his visual style . . . it's kind of bland and not too creative in my opinion. . . aside from that, I can't really fault him for too much at all.

Yea, I think the Studio and the Producers are more to blame. I think the writers and Ratner were specific perimeters that they had to work with.

I do and many more I know of. And I voted becuase God hates Cyclops. But we all know it also has to do with his Superman deal that he got himself into. If he hadn't done that movie he probaly would have been the bigger star :down
Any who I'm too big of a fan of Cyclops so I'm leaving, and I am getting a little peved about people asking the same question over and over agian, but that's just me. I guess the guy's new here so that's cool, and err um welcome to the board.

it looks as if fox wanted cyclops out of the picture regardless, i think singer would've pushed for a bigger role for cyclops but o well. if singer did x3 and if marsden still did superman, then i think cyclops would've had a bigger role than the current state of x3 but thats just what i think.

more than anything though is studio politics.

Cyclops killed himself. If he wouldn't have went to alkili lake, he wouldn't be dead. (just kiddin').lol.

Everything.

Rothman pissed that Madsen had the audacity to go to SR when he was pissed at Singer (Mardsen finished his stuff early and could have stayed on X3 afterwards, the studio was pissed at him though).

Then you take into account that studios don't give a **** about the comics and want their leading guy (Hugh Jackman) to have a girl to bang so they put Cyke down and let the story of Cyke just have Logan play that part. They also have Halle nagging for more close ups so she can just take Cyke's place as the leader.

And lastly you have two very untalented writers and a poor director who his the studio's puppet.

Mix together and you have a nice blend of urine splashed over the comics.

I want an IESB interviewer to stop kissing the ass of Rothman and literally ride him to the ground with constant questions in a full video interview they always do with Rothman during movie premieres specifically about what the hell his problem is, why did he insistently kill Cyke... not follow the comics and screw the entire total continuity and universe of the X-men with his unbearably stupid sense of movie producing. Seriously, someone needs to do that, that or pull a Tom Cruise squirt with a flower stunt... except with Acid spray with a small lighter underneathe to let his face burn... seriously, I have no regret in wanting genuine physical harm to be inflicted on Rothman... the man is an outright sad pathetic loser... i don't care how sad it is that I want physical harm done to him, I do I'm that angry about this entire crap they're pulling... normally I just live and let live but this seriously for some reason has gotten to me more than anything else in terms of movies and entertainment
