Avengers 3 is going to make over $2B. It will be a long time before the returns diminish enough for them to come close to not making money. Most would be happy with $1B.It's a tremendous feat, but they cannot sustain this level of success post Avengers 3. What would be their PIV? Inhumans? Recast the Avengers? I don't see it. Maybe Ant-Man becomes the new Stark and you go from there. They can use Rudd to carry an Avengers 4. But Hemsworth and Evans, who knows? If they don't resign them and recast, we'd be looking at another Webb Spider-Man, increasing costs, diminishing returns. Luckily they can wait longer than the five years Sony waited if need be.

Spider-man is a different case as it's a solo character that has already had 5 films in a short space of time and the obligation to keep churning them out every few years no matter how fatigued the audience gets, just for the studio to retain the rights. Much easier keeping a team with a rotating roster (so not F4, but any of JL, Avengers & X-Men) and a huge pool of potential characters fresh than something with the same character up front in every film.
