What is DC Entertainment doing? What is their plan? - Part 1

Speaking of? No-ones was even talking about TV.

Umh, DC right now has more than 1 show in the works, they have already announced Blue Beetle, Sandman, Deadman, and Raven, most of them were even anounced recently, in fact i think Sandman would be better for a tv show than Deadman.

I think a Hellblazer tv show should be made alongside a Sandman tv show and they should have some crossovers (not many, just one every 2 or 3 years maybe).

I think Animal Man and the Swamp-Thing could work better as movies but they could work as tv shows too.

Half these TV shows aren't going to get picked up anyway so I don't see what's to gloat about.

I know they want, the Graysons, Wonder woman, the 2000's Deadman, Bruce Wayne, and many others are examples. And the creator of supernatural being involved last year with sandman and now everybody sudenly forgeting it and mentioning that he's now developing Deadman are good examples of how DC isn't really focusing on TV

Ironically, Marvel's done a 180 and gone from 'completely uninvolved in television' to 'we're making five shows on the same channel at once'.

Also, it's too bad that old Blue Beetle concept Geoff Johns showed footage for at SDCC'10. I mean, with Smallville finished and WW axed (Btw, how the **** is the WW forum open? If WW has a section for a canceled TV series, which was made BEFORE it was cancelled, why doesn't Hulk?), DC seems to be going nowhere as far as TV goes. And movies.
Hell, the only reason they have a film scheduled for 2013 is because they fell behind on Supes' filming to the point it COULDN'T be released in any really completed form in 2012.

Nevermind the legal mess they'll go through with Supes in 2013 anyways

I think this threads sole purpose is for marvel fans to gloat without it being considered trolling.

And you're absolutely right. Until I see a Hulk or Punisher TV show up and running, there is nothing to be excited about. Thats another thing...you wouldnt see people on the marvel films board saying "Why cant marvel make good TV shows?" while constantly comparing them to DC.

Wow, so anytime some says something that you don't agree with, it's gloating but yet its the truth ? I'm the first to admit I'm a Marvel zombie but at the same time, I know if DC doesn't step its game up, both companies will sink fast because they both do need each other. I've been reading only DC comics for a minute due to my frustration with Marvel, knowing that the competition between the rivals will cause the other one to step up. So until some of you guys realize that people are not bashing, but hoping that DC can step up. Actually you don't really hear anyone bashing DC, its WB people seem to bash.

....and where was it reported that Mos is being released in 13' cause it fell behind?

I know, right? It was pushed back so it doesn't have to compete with The Hobbit, it may get pushed back further now Thor 2 is gone, in fact, The Hobbit may go to June 2013 and Man of Steel could get bumped back up to Dec 2012. It's all up in the air right now.

Actually I think you'll find Superman being pushed back has got more to do with a certain green superhero not performing well.

They've got The Hobbit, Twilight, James Bond and a bunch of other stuff happening in December 2012. That's why it was moved.

Twilight and Bond isn't WB.

jmc: No they aren't. Who said they were?
But they are films that attract a lot of people, and going against them could be bad for MoS. I am sure you understand that quite well.

WB moving Superman has little if anything to do with those films. Superman is being moved to 2013 because the little cash cow WB thought they'd have in GL failed to materialise and they need something to fill in the gap that would have been otherwise been used for GL2. Lets not forget that a sequel to GL was already being planned and developed well before the debacle that was film one was even finished. It's got nothing to do with competition or troubled filming, Superman has been moved to plug the hole left by GL.

WB treats DC just like any other production company they own. There is no respect for the DC brand and all that represents. I remember a few years back the CEO of DC announced a big re-org in response to the rise in popularity of superhero movies. What did we get out of that? Batman AGAIN and a slew of other projects that were mismanaged or disappeared. It is going to be impossible for DC to grow under the thumb of WB. So DC can put all the projects they want in development... unless WB thinks they will make bank, they will never see the light of day.

That's why I think some other studio(s) should have access to their properties. WB are not interested in the genre per se, only in making money.
If they had interest, they would put more effort in making good adaptions of the classic DC superheroes. We have got fewer than we should have, by now.

You will never see either Hobbit movie released outside of the month of December. It's worked like a charm for them 3 times in a row, they're not going to pull a Prince Caspian and ditch their optimal release season.

Studios are out to make money and care little if the end product is actually good, as long as it sells. Pixar may be the exception to the rule to some extent although Cars 2 says even they can be lured by the coin.

Ironically, they're making prequels and sequels to Cars and Monsters Inc, but not for the one franchise that a sequel would be most logical for, and that they left on a sequel-bait ending anyways.

You're speaking of Incredibles, no? Brad Bird's said he would only go forward if his story was one he thought superior to the original. He obviously hasn't had one yet. Cars and Monsters are both projects their creators are equally passionate about.

Yeah, Incredibles is Brad Birds' baby and there's no way in hell Pixar would do a sequel without him. Still, I don't know if it's even required, to me the story really doesn't call for continuation.

I don't even think the ending was sequel-bait and more of a "and they superhero'd happily ever after!"
