Not if Alberto was the 2nd choice all along. Besides chances are if Maroni took over directly he was Falcone's consiglier or something similar. Maybe Falcone's cousin, so it arguably was the family. What you would want to imply is that Alberto is someone who is mentally imbalanced and was passed up, until he was the only choice. (Some how surpassing Sofia and Mario, possibly putting them under a house arrest kind of deal).

As for Buscemi not being passable as Wilkinson's son, your probably right, he is less then ten years younger and doesn't bare any resemblence, but thats what we have make up for.

To make a person older is easy with make-up, but its really hard to make one younger. And Buscemi looks odler than his age.

All this talk about Alberto is stupid. Falcone NEVER wanted Alberto as part of the family business. He always kept him out of it, and separate from it. He wouldn't have left his empire to Alberto. He viewed Alberto as weak, and not able to handle the job. Remember guys? This is why Alberto claimed he committed the Holiday murders...to "man up" and prove himself.

-Mario Falcone was more suitable for the job, though he turns out to actually be altruistic in nature.

-Sofia was the one that was strong enough...why force Alberto into a role that wouldn't have been his?

Falcone wouldn't leave his empire to Alberto. And Alberto wouldn't take it to become a traditional mobster...

Freak crime boss= Black Mask or Oswald Cobblepot

Well I think the reason most people want Alberto is because he would not be a traditional mobster. He would be easy to portray as not yet on level with Black Mask and Penguin, but definitely a step away from Maroni, Gambol etc. Depending on how useful a character like this would be, depends on the plot.

You are still probably right about Buscemi as well. I am not devoted to him or anything. I just think he could play the part good.

Rupert Thorne. The old school mob should have been wiped out by Batman. Alberto or Sophia Falcone seem rather tepid at this far in the series, kinda like how Joruus C'Baoth and General Thrawn limped around the ashes of the fallen empire in the Zahn SW novels.

Thorne could easily fit in the movie, not as a mob boss, but as a corrupt councilman calling for the Batman's arrest...this would be faithful. Maybe, see him taking bribes from another villain or the mob boss from the film?

More or less. He's the perfect "escalation" from the prior film, just as Maroni was the logical successor to Carmine Falcone if he wasn't going to return. And Thorne comes from the "era" of Batman comics that Nolan and his crew seems to value most.

Rupert Thorne is far more politically inclined than most of Batman's mobsters. If they're going to use him, they need to remember that.

If I were up to me, I'd make Thorne replace Mayor Garcia and set up a disagreement between him and Commissioner Gordon. Then later have it revealed that whoever is one of the villains/Freaks would also be under Thorne's orders. He should be publically a good guy, but behind the scenes one of the baddest mob bosses around.

He should be one of the final mob bosses before the Mob/Freaks merges. The Penguin can be seen as a hybrid of the two, and should proceed Rupert Thorne, and be succeeded by Scarface or Black Mask. Proper Freaks like the Riddler, Poison Ivy or Mister Freeze shouldn't have Mob Boss intentions, allowing them to follow their own agendas.

For story purposes, Dent's replacement is going to have to be someone bad like Janice Porter...it could seem like a bit of a double-up if the mayor is bad as well...

Both Carl Grissom and Max Shreck were Thorne-like in the Burton movies. Grissom was more crime boss, Shreck had the more political interest, but did the character justice in a way. I'd love to see a Grissom/Shreck hybrid (aka Thorne) in the next Nolan movie. He should be organised, and old-school.

Idk, I think Mob bosses should be extinct up to this point. I mean, escalation is a big theme in this series. I'd rather see "A better class of criminal." But, I wouldn't mind seeing, idk, Rupert Thorne trying to bring the mob back to the forefront of crime, though his efforts will obviously be in vain.
