Dawn of the Dead (1978) - 4.5/5

Still a classic that succeeds at being more than just a zombie gore fest, exploring some interesting social commentary. I'd be lying if I said the whole film holds up well today. Some of the effects are quite dodgy, as is the acting. Still, practical over CGI any day.

Hitchcock. WOW! Hopkins was just insanely great in this. Loved it!

How is it? I've seen the DVD in stores and been tempted to pick it up a bunch of times, but I don't know...

I really enjoyed it, but I wasn't as enthralled as many of the critics were. It was a fun, goofy monster movie that had some cool mythology that, as an American, was new to me.

I have Star Trek: The Motion Picture on right now, waiting for the Seahawks game to come on... but last full film I watched with intention to actually watch was Looper yesterday. Good, not amazing.

I love Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Highly underrated.

Cloud Atlas. It might be a little confusing, but at the end the message is surely beautiful and powerful. It deserved more recognition than it got. A must see. (8.3)

Silver Linings Playbook (8/10): it was a good movie. Great performances by Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. Having said that, i dont see what the big deal about it is. It's not among my top 10 movies of the year. I dont get all of the Academy nominations but hey, i dont get the Academy's choices a lot of times, so there u go lol.

Were you watching it on SciFi too?

Dredd
1984
American Beauty
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Les Miserables
Lawless

Life of Pi (9/10): beautiful movie, visually stunning. I though it was extremely well done and a treat to watch. One of my favorites of the year for sure.

Batman
Superman
Thunderball
The Pianist
Goldfinger
Goldeneye

Straw Dogs (2011 remake) - not as bad just a typical average husband gets pushed too far and shows the antagonists their comeuppance and it's been done to death in tons of films.

Awkward dinner table conversation about Van Damme's penis aside this is a solid action movie riff on the western 'Shane', although Van Damme doesn't make as much of the role as a better actor would. 7/10

You have to accept the ridiculous story right off the bat and just go with it. The training scenes and Van Damme's earnest character are both good but the action is pretty average, the film also makes the bizarre choice of deciding in the last 15 minutes that paralyzing his brother wasn't enough to make the fight personal, so Van Damme's girlfriend is raped, his brother kidnapped and his mentor's dog stabbed just to ensure we really want Van Damme to win. :funny: 5/10
