8/10

Dolph's mid budget answer to Rambo III with a dollop of Commando thrown in. There's some mumbo jumbo in here but it's surface stuff and although the movie does a good job making the Hind into some sort of mythic beast, Dolph kills it with a giant machine gun at the end. 5.5/10

Django Unchained.

****ING EPIC.

I love this thread. It gives me such wonderful idea for things to watch that have somehow slipped under my radar. Just wanted to throw my appreciation out there

The Bat (1959) - lame

Message From Space (1978) - lame

Alien (1979) - classic

Same here. There were quite a few movies I never knew about until I saw people talk about them in this thread.

Suicide Kings - 8/10

So basically, four rich brats kidnap the nicest mobster that is Christopher Walken and **** goes down. But this held my attention and grabs you from the concept alone. The ending is a little too bleak and 90's but other than that, this is a cool movie. And Denis Leary had a great role.

Silver Linings Playbook - 9/10

Jennifer Lawrence in yoga pants go together like peanut butter and chocolate for me.

... Oh, yeah and that film was great. Oscar worthy performances from everyone involved! Yay!

Silver Linings Playbook

It was a okay. Certainly not Best Picture. For a movie that started so edgy and dangerous the Hollywood wrap up didn't feel right. I wish it could've stuck the landing a little more truthfully.

The Last Stand

Fun but slight. Arnold's time away from camera has made him an even stiffer actor. It was a blast to see it with my dad though. It's gonna be one of those movies he watches a million times on cable.

I disagree. I think the ending of SLP went with the tone of the movie, which was more dramedy and while some scenes got dark, there was always something to lighten the tone.

After 45 minutes I was ready to give up, the neurotic nonsense was irritating the crap out of me. It picks up once Pat and Tiffany make their deal but overall I found it pretty mediocre and am baffled at how it got a best picture nomination. 6/10

The film starts out using Seagal's real life background to set up the character of Nico, then gets started with Nico involved in CIA black op missions in Vietnam and Cambodia, which sets the table for the main story set in Chicago 15 years later with Nico now a cop. This is probably Seagal's second best film with a good story as well as decent action. 7.5/10

Funny because that's how I thought about Zero Dark Thirty. lol:oldrazz:

Rififi--10/10

Amazing crime drama. The famous silent heist scene is incredible; nothing I had read about the movie oversold the tension of it. But the tension didn't let up for the rest of the movie either. It felt like an American noir, but the French influence is definitely there. Very cool.

X-Men: First Class--8.5/10

It held up well on a second viewing. Some parts are kind of cheesy, but the '60s vibe is really well done, the character development is strong, and Fassbender absolutely kills it as Magneto.

Gross Pointe Blank--8.5/10

One of many underrated performance from John Cusack. I can totally believe that one of his '80s characters could have a huge identity crisis and grow up to be Martin Blank. And he stabbed a guy with a pen while The English Beat played in the background. I love that part.

Real Steel--7/10

It was OK. The fighting was cool and it had plenty of fun parts, but the story was pretty weak. It's probably an hour into the movie when they get the underdog robot, which makes the events of the second hour seem to happen unbelievably quickly.

How bizarre. Someone at some point during the production must have thought about it though. A guy called Bernie, a story about making people believe a dead person is still alive. Way too big a coincidence.

Well the story of Jack Black's movie Bernie was based on a real story and the guy was really named Bernie.
