Immortal Beloved - 7/10

Decent but shallow take on the life and loves of Beethoven. Gary Oldman was great as the composer but his character and relationships needed more development. Beethoven was such a strange guy, what with his virulent hatred of aristocrats and horrible temper, and I would've liked to have seen how he turned out the way.

The Adjustment Bureau was on TV last night. Started out... Okay. I was handling it due to Damon and Blunt's likability. It was kind of fun. Then descended into psuedo-religious rubbish.

Was surprisingly pretty good. I really liked the route and actions the film took to make it a good lead up to the original. A fair amount of trademark Raimi scenes in this as well, and I thought it was cool to see some background on the Wicked Witches sister...before Dorothy's house dropped on her. :woot:

Took me a second, but I noticed Bruce Campbell's cameo as well.

OZ The Great and Powerful - 8.5/10

Really enjoyed this movie!

An interesting concept with a bland after taste. Big Business picks up towards end, which is unfortunately rushed. Also, I've got a new drinking game for this film. Every time Bette Midler widens her eyes like a dopey cartoon character, you drink absinthe - good luck.

I left the theater very satisfied. If you're a fan of the world of Oz you'll enjoy this film, but if you're a Raimi fan, I think you may have a little more fun with this. My only complaint is the ending. Without giving anything away; you're left with unanswered questions.

Oz: The Great and Powerful

Even with Raimi's name on it I was fearing it would turn out like Burton's Alice in Wonderland 2.0 but thankfully it didn't. They did a great job trying to capture the same feel of the 39 film (By going black and white to color and a few other things) while doing some great visual effect work. James Franco did a great job, I thought the role fit him really well. The rest of the cast was amazing but Joey King as the china girl almost stole the movie for me. Also I enjoy the "Raimi moments" in the film and this is a film you want to see in 3D.

Jack the Giant Slayer

No wonder they pushed this movie back almost a year. The movie was incredibly boring, it's on the level of Bryan Singer's Superman film. It just goes though the motions that we've seen so many times before. Nicholas Hoult didn't have much to do but be a bland pretty boy hero. The only one who I thought actually tried was Ewan McGregor and even that he couldn't carry the film. Once you get to the final showdown in the last 20 minutes, it was mildly entertaining. Also the 3D was terrible, I don't know if this was shot or converted but the 3D didn't do anything.

5/10

Lean at under a 100 minutes but it never feels rushed as you get invested in the story and Caesar, who is a marvel to behold! The whole last 30 minutes is stunning. 8/10
