DAYS OF FUTURE PAST
QUALITY ON ITS OWN= 8.5/10
QUALITY WITHIN THE CANON = 6/10
JOY = 8.5/10

I decided to separate its quality as a piece of canon from the quality as its own movie, I should probably bring up my score this way for all the movies that were released after the original trilogy, cause this is when things get messy.

In the world of the sentinels program that started in 1973, there is no room for diplomat Hank McCoy, they should be struggling against sentinels before the events of the very first movie in this series. Magneto should be dead instead of being released from his tank in the pentagon (that's an issue the movie actually has within itself) to aid his fellow mutants against these giant robots. Trask is a white midget after being Bill Dukes. William Stryker should have no reason to send his son to Xavier's school, or lead the mutant squad that includes Logan and his older brother.

Here's how I rank all that I've rewatched so far:
  1. X-Men United (love it)
  2. First Class (love it)
  3. Days of Future Past (I highly enjoy it, but it's overrated)
  4. The Last Stand (really like it)
  5. The Wolverine
  6. X-Men (I like it)
  7. Origins: Wolverine (it's one of those enjoyably stupid movies)

Next stop: Deadpool
You don't need to watch it as part of the X-Men movie marathon, but what the heck, let's give it another shot, and watch it since it's in the same universe.

THE WOLVERINE
QUALITY = 7.5/10
JOY = 8/10

The climax battle is underwhelming, and Lady Viper is annoying and boring more than she is interesting and threatening. The other flaw beside these is that Japanese people speak to each other in English in the middle of their Japanese conversations.

A solid entertaining flick, but I wish it deserved a spot as one of the best CBMs instead of being an underwhelming one.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Cut)

After so much talk from DCEU fans about this cut of the movie, I eventually had to check it out before seeing Justice League. I gotta say, I don't get the hype. While the bulk of the movie stays the same, the added differences both hurt and helped the film. I do agree it fleshed out Clark Kent's role in this a bit. It makes you wonder who was in charge of cutting out his stuff, because they were obviously not a fan of Superman. However, they don't do enough with it because they were so small and in-between. The downside to the cut was the expanded stuff like the cover up and the investigation with Lois Lane. It was laborious and pointless. It actually made the film just as worse as before. Again, all that being said, this movie is pretty much the same. It's 3 hours of overlong material and it's painful to get through. This is all stemming from Man of Steel where Snyder did not understand what makes these characters so special. He only knows how it looks on a comic book and translate it on screen. And thought by making them dour and dark it automatically makes them acceptable to general audiences. The best thing I can say about BvS was it looks nice and it was shot competently well. Snyder can be a very interesting director if he sets his mind on something and knows what he's talking about, but this was not one of them. Overall, my rating hasn't really changed that much, I'll give it a small leg up for the added Clark Kent scenes.
3.5/10

Justice League

This was an interesting failure and I mean that in a positive way. After the fallout of BvS, this movie's sole purpose was trying to course correct and it shows... a lot. The overly long and strenuous "plot" from previous films have gone away for good. Instead, you get a very thin Saturday morning cartoon with the villain of the week. It's a far cry from what I wanted out of a first ever Justice League movie, but I was somewhat entertained. It becomes pretty obvious who wrote and directed what when you're watching this. The obvious reshoots by Joss Whedon did help the movie by making it fun and light. While Snyder's stuff does go back to its excessive money shots. It's got a very weird Frankenstein vibe throughout this. However, the movie focuses on the team itself for the majority of the movie and whenever they are together in a room just talking, it's at its best.

For me, I thought the best characters in this movie was Superman, The Flash, and Aquaman (with a slight moment from Batman). When they introduce Superman, it was by far the best scene in the movie and it totally mocks Batman v Superman. When it goes along to the last few scenes, it's the Superman we've all been wanting to see since Man of Steel. As for the Flash, I thought despite the Mad Max suit, Ezra Miller did a great enough job on playing Wally West playing Barry Allen. Aquaman, while they don't really do enough with him, was pretty fun. He was great calling out on things that needs to be called on. As for the rest, I think Ben Affleck as Batman phoned in it. It was obvious throughout the the movie, he wanted out. It's obvious I'm not a fan of Gal Gadot playing Wonder Woman, but I do think her stand alone movie made her bearable. However, here she went backwards in so many ways. It didn't help that Snyder (or Wedeon) made sure almost all her scenes had gratuitous ass shots. As for Fisher playing Cyborg, I thought there's nothing inherently wrong with his performance, but I was never a fan of depressing Cyborg in the first place. That said, nothing compares to the obnoxiously boring villain Steppenwolf. DCEU has a long line of bad villains and this is another one for their collection. I'm less concerned about his CG and more about his nonexistent backstory.

It's hard not to compare this to the Avengers, but this proves why you need a firm foundation for your universe. Avengers knows about setup and execution and this didn't. Justice League has its foot in the right direction... it was a case of too little too late for this universe. I didn't hate this movie like I did with the others. It's got its fair share of good moments, but it seems I'm gonna have to wait some more for the Justice League movie that had the amount of fame and fortune as the first Avengers movie.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

I've been watching some of the classic '80s movies recently, especially the John Hughes comedies. I have to say I loved this movie, it was definitely one of the funniest movies I've seen recently, I actually can't recall the last time I laughed this much during a movie (not just mild chuckles, but actual out-loud laughs.) There were so many funny situations combined with clever comedic timing, and it never really gets old or stale, pretty much all of the humor lands. The humor works so well that I'm actually afraid to mention anything specific here, because I don't want to ruin any of the jokes for people. This is a movie I'd highly recommend, especially if you enjoy fun 'feel good' comedies.

The Breakfast Club

(I actually watched this one last week, but I'll mention it here anyway.)

This movie was very different from what I was expecting, I kind of expected something a bit funnier and lighter (I suppose something more in line with Ferris Bueller's Day Off). That much being said, this wasn't a bad thing at all. I enjoyed the tone and atmosphere of this movie. When the mean school principle character appeared, I was expecting the movie to go one of two ways. I thought it was going to be (#1) some sort of test where the principle would turn out to be a nice guy at the end, or (#2) it would be a "fight the power"-type thing, where the kids have to work together and get the mean principle kicked out. I'm glad the movie didn't go in either of these directions, because those have both been done before. The director really gave this movie a chance to breathe and let these characters interact and play off each other, which was interesting to watch. I liked the way the movie blurred the lines between different stereotypes and cliques, because that's usually the way it is in real life. No one's just "a nerd" or "a jock", anyone has the potential to get along, and there's even a lot of crossover between interests and personalities. I'd recommend this movie, although maybe not as much as Ferris Bueller's Day Off. This movie definitely deals with deeper and heavier themes, and isn't quite as much of a 'feel good' movie.

DEADPOOL
QUALITY = 8/10
JOY = 6.5/10

This character is disgusting, this movie is disgusting. I should never watch this movie again, and it will probably be better for me to skip the sequel.

I really loved this movie on the first go, I hope it doesn't disappoint me this time.

It's weird to make this choice instead of subtitles (I had them off), and more than 2/3 of the conversation is Japanese, and suddenly shifts to English.

Lady-Bird-poster-600x750.jpg

Skipping Justice League altogether unless I find myself bored out of my mind sometime in the upcoming month.

Lady Bird, one of the best 2017 has to offer.

9.5/10

Justice League

Better than MoS, or BvS, or Suicide Squad. About as good as my low expectations hoped for. 5.5/10.

Santa Claus Conquers The Martians

Santa and the Three Bears

Santa Claus

Santa Conquers The Martians was entertainingly bad in it’s ridiculousness. But to be honest, it was also incredibly boring. I fell asleep while watching it.

Santa and the Three Bears was a cute little animated film.

Santa Claus was an odd foreign film (Swedish I think) translated into English, about The Devil trying to spoil Christmas and Santa and Merlin the wizard have to try and stop him.

The movies are on a triple feature DVD called Santa Claus Classics.

Justice League - 5.5/10

Yeah. It wasn't AS horrible as it sounded from critics and reviews, but still poor. I enjoyed Ezra Miller as Barry/Flash.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE
QUALITY = 7/10
JOY = 8/10

First time I saw it fun factor was almost to the roof, this time it was disappointingly more limited, but it's still an enjoyable movie despite me enjoying it less than I did the Last Stand.
I gotta say that the speed action sequences done by Fox Movies are my favorite adaptions of this power on film so far, and by film I include TV shows.

Please be more enjoyable to me on this go around.
