Who do you want to see as Captain Marvel?

Well it's happened with Cumberbatch finally so maybe it's Blunt's chance now. Next up Gosling & Fillion!

I'm not sure about Fillion, man the guy has let himself go. He's packed on some pounds but yet no nasty comments about him and it seems the fanboys still want him in some comic role despite his size. On the flip side we have all these beautiful women that are over 30 and look great and yet they are bashed to no end about being old and getting outta of shape before it has even happened . Go figure.

Agreed. I'm Team Blunt, Team Monaghan, Team Strahovski, Team Theron, Team Winnick, Team Pike and Team Anybody Else Who's a Good Actress that Can Portray All the Facets of Carol's Persona.

After seeing "Edge of Tomorrow".....Blunt. Wow.....a friend of mine posted that the visuals in "Edge of Tomorrow" were amazing and my reply was "Yeah, and the special effects were good too". A fine actor who I've followed for some time now.

What year do you think Carol will be actually cast? 2015? 2016? 2017?

Unless she appears in a movie previously, we'll be hearing about a director first I think. That could be anytime but not until after that. I'm guessing 2015 might be off the table (unless she appears in a movie previously)

I've seen a lot of people suggest Katie Sackhoff, but what would everyone think about Tricia Helfer?
She's played some commanding badasses, and is still pretty damn hot
only thing that would bother me with her is she always talks through her teeth...

It was just a joke about the guys who are fancast for every role. Hopefully someone comes through for you on the nasty comments for Nathan Fillion. :yay:

Right just figured since we know who BP & DS are now CM would logically be next. But it could take a while.

I guess we have to watch out for actresses that get their big break over the course of the next year. next years golden globe nominations might be a good indicator on who gets that part

Why do you say that? Because of Cumberbatch?

I don't think Marvel trends only toward getting people in the midst of their "big breakout." Just Pratt and Cumberbatch. Sometimes they get people who've done plenty of good work in the past (RDJ, Evans, Scarlett, Boseman), or some unknown low-key TV actor with some smaller movie experience who wins the part (Hemsworth). Emily Blunt just got another Golden Globe nomination today, as did Michelle Monaghan and Rosamund Pike, so I think they all fit the bill for the former category. The TV candidates like Winnick, Strahovski etc. would be closer to the Hemsworth model, though just the fact that they're on anyone's radar means they're more high profile than he was, lol.

I feel like it could be argued that Marvel was Chris Pratt's big breakout. Parks and Rec wasn't exactly a ratings giant and I don't think he was recognized for his work in Zero Dark Thirty until concern about whether the chubby guy could become a superhero came up right after he was cast.

Probably true, but Chris (and, of course, Philip Seymour Hoffman) really jumped out at me in "Moneyball". He was, IMO, on his way. I thought the same about Hemsworth also. His resume' was short, but he had the look of an up and comer to me.

It's rather cliche', but even after thinking about it for awhile, I'd go with Emily Blunt if I could get her. She's just a really good actor and has clearly worked hard at perfecting her craft. The fact that she was stunning in Edge of Tomorrow doesn't hurt. That could be looked at as a great setup role. She pulled off being a major badass to (almost) perfection.

He was certainly working, not sure about gaining notoriety.

If by "He" you mean Pratt, I don't know if he was gaining notoriety per se, but I do know he got noticed in Moneyball by people who matter AND he lost a lot of weight for the part of Hatteberg. The latter was, IMO, a key for him to be cast for Peter Quill. He'd shown he could already do it.

Cool website by the way. Thanks for putting up the link. :applaud

I'd say Zero Dark Thirty had more to do with whether or not he could get into shape and Pratt was overshadowed by Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill in Moneyball. As big of a movie as Moneyball was, I don't think it did much if anything for Pratt in the moment.

I honestly can't remember who Pratt played in Moneyball.

Mark Hatteberg. He played first base for Oakland after he blew his arm out (used to be a catcher). Pretty good movie. He did a nice job. I haven't seen it for awhile, but I think he looked a lot different in that movie. You can probably check it out on netflix or something like that.

I think you're right. I may have been confused about that. He didn't have as big a role as Brad or Jonah (or Hoffman for that matter), but I think he did really well in his role. Frankly, I wasn't that impressed with Pitt in that movie. It just felt to me like he was playing the role rather than being "in" it. Liked him in WWZ though and I generally can't stand zombie movies.

Edit: I can't remember where, but I remember some movie honcho saying quite the opposite about his role in Moneyball. Could just be a lot of BS (there tends to be a lot of that in the movie industry in case you were wondering....:woot:), but I can't see why someone would say that if it weren't at least somewhat true. The same interview talked about his weight and it WAS Zero Dark Thirty. That's what got me confused.

Sorry, folks, about getting off thread. I'll send PMs next time to answer extraneous questions.

Tanks Mon. Don't know how I messed that up. I lived in Santa Cruz during that era and used to go up to the Coliseum for day games during the week and remember just about all of the players (Huddie, Zito, Mulder, Hatteberg, Chavez, Miggie, etc.). Weird how your brain can play tricks on you like that.

Edit: Looks like I was confused about more than one thing....how depressing.....I'll have to go watch GotG again. That'll cheer me up (like I really "need" an excuse to watch it again).

Would Amanda Seyfried be too short or not hot enough for the role?

I just wouldn't believe her as a Colonel at all. That, and she doesn't have any sort of commanding presence. I do like her, but only have liked her in Mean Gorls and for some reason, Jennifer's Body. But no, not her.

I like Seyfried, but nope. I don't think she's believable.

Just started VIKINGS. I am coming around to Kathryn Winnick. She's really good.

I've never cared for Olivia Wilde as an actress, tbh.
