The Rise of Skywalker Who Should Direct Episode IX?

Can't say I'm pleased with this. TFA has not aged very well with me over repeat viewings. Just seems a safe and uninspired choice.

Well, Kathleen Kennedy has to sleep at night, you know.

to me abrams is safe and unoriginal choice.abrams with the force awakens was trying to remake original trilogy as much as possable.with johnson on the last jedi i feel at least he is trying to dosomething original.Abrams didn't even have luke till very end of TFA.i agree with mark hamill that having han's death be witnessed by mostly newcomers was bad idea.

Abrams has tendacy of trying to make films that others have done in his way.

Mission Impossible III was basicly him trying to do feature film version of his show alias.with star trek he turned it into star wars.even super 8 was said to be like steven spielberg's earlier films.and with TFA he was trying to redo a new hope and empire.

Abrams will be lsafe choice that can work with kennedy.but not very original.

Love this news. Awakens has the magic despite its faults, which are few.

My thoughts exactly.

The Force Awakens was the worst film of all time, just a rehash on A New Hope. I now expect Episode 9 will be a rehash of Return of the Jedi.

This is bad news.

Here is who should have been brought on to direct episode 9, George Lucas himself.

If you think TFA was the worst film of all time you must consider Episodes I-III Oscar worthy. Then again, you did just recommend Lucas to return to the franchise he nearly destroyed.

I'm disappointed by this uninspired pick, but it's still better than Trevorrow.

A solid, if unspectacular choice.

I'm sure we'll be hearing about a release change soon enough. No doubt December 2019 (Poor Wonder Woman) or May 2020.

Warners will likely move WW2 up to November 2019 or June 2020 if Episode IX moves back to Christmas.

Woah.. co-writing with Chris Terrio.

What? Great!

As for Abrams... On my first viewing TFA felt underwhelming, on my second one I loved it, so dunno. :woot: It is a safe choice and he still needs to learn and improve his craft, like editing and story-boarding the action scenes, his space action stuff is so chaotic, but I'm actually ok with him at the helm when I'm thinking about it.

TFA is my second favorite Star Wars movie, so I am happy.

TFA is the worst thing with Star Wars to ever be made. It makes the holiday special look great in comparison.

Haha what a joke. Just like Episode 7 was a rehash of Episode 4.

9 will be the same as 6.

sure it was with touch of empire too.but that is abrams as director.i am not so sure 9 will rehash jedi since abrams doesn't seem to like that film very much.

I wouldn't go that far though i place TFA as number 5 of main episodes after original trilogy and revenge of the sith.which i am sure will get me hate now.

Kind of with you on that. I think Sith and Awakens are kind of evenly matched, actually.

Better character work on the latter.

After the debacle with the last 2 directors, this was expected. And it's a great choice! Abrams can definitely spin a yarn. I look forward to see how he finishes and expands SW into the future.

Gee, safe and uninspired. Who would have thought. :o

This trilogy is just ****ed. Even if TLJ is great this will undo all of that. Get ready for Return of the Force Awakens 2.0.

Time to change the sub-heading in the main thread...

O sh**. Never realised this. Thanks for letting me know.

I'm fine with Abrams coming back to finish this trilogy. TFA did a good job of putting us back into this world and while it has it's problems, it was still enjoyable and served its purpose for the trilogy.

The part that has me concerned is Terrio. Batman V Superman was a dumpster fire and the script was a major part of the problem. For some reason I thought when they hired Rian Johnson for XIII they said he was staying on to help write IX did I just make that up?

As much as I enjoy and like TFA, this was the safest route and gets a "meh" out of me.

I'm actually really intrigued by Terrio's involvement.

I really like TFA, but I'm not jumping for joy with this. My hope is that Abrams learns from the mistakes that were made with that film and delivers something greater and more distinct with IX. I didn't want Abrams back though, so I'm being very pensive about this.

there is 0 chance that abrams will learn from his mistakes because in his/disney's mind he didn't make any mistakes

i swear to god if we get starkiller base 2/death star 2, lmao

I'm just going to enjoy the dialog over the next two years about how this movie is going to be terrible. JJ Abrams has a very vocal pack of dissenters.

And there goes my interest level. :csad:

I'll see the film because it's Star Wars and I'll have seen TFA and TLJ, but the latter will end up being the only modern SW film for which I'll have been genuinely excited.

If that happens, and it's a very big if, I'll probably have to concede that Star Wars has become creatively bankrupt. Starkiller was by far the biggest problem with VII; the worst example of Abrams' derivative, creation-by-homage approach.

But I think Abrams is smarter than that. He's come out and copped to some of the places where he fumbled with TFA. What's more worrisome is that they got the guy that wrote BVS to script it.
