The Avengers "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be Hemsworthy, shall possess the power of Thor"

Movie Thor is shown to learn mercy and to not want to wipe a race of creatures off the face of the earth just because one of them annoys him. That softening of attitude is quite a big growth point for him, and it might be in the Avengers that he CAN defeat Hulk, but doesn't want to wipe him out completely. Containing Hulk would probably be more difficult than smiting him dead.

Can someone tell me if we'll see Bruce Banner in the Avengers movie? Or just the Hulk? I read somewhere that in some of the comics Thor doesn't want to obliterate Hulk because he likes Banner. That could be another reason for him to hold back if they include Banner.

Bruce Banner has been confirmed to be in this film, portrayed by Mark Ruffalo. According to sources, The Hulk will be a Avenger/hero in this film rather than a menace, but that doesn't mean that we won't see physical strife between Thor and the hulk

Thanks for that. I've been in Btvs/Ats fandom for a long time and I know Joss likes feeding fans lines such as 'I'm giving you what you need, not what you want!' But he's a big nerd who knows what the fans want to see and I'll bet my last godly codpiece that he will put in a Thor vs Hulk scene, if not an all in brawl with everyone.

Don't know how he'll do it. It could be when they all first meet, when they're all chest-beating and trying to prove who's the boss, possibly a misunderstanding via Loki trickery. But there's no way Joss won't include a couple of superhero bunfights.

Can't wait.

Np

Well the basic idea that's been talked about by the cast members from interviews is that none of the Avengers will enjoy working with each other, let alone be able to put up with each of their unique personalities; so it's somewhat realistic that when you consider who each of them are, that there's bound to be physical tension between them that will escalate into a physical fight.

Be that as it may, I'm seriously wondering as to how they'll go into this film WITHOUT Asgard being in it since

*MAJOR THOR SPOILER*

Thor is left trapped in Asgard at the end of Thor, and while it's given that the bifrost bridge will most likely be rebuilt or something to that effect, for narrative and dramatic purposes, they need to show as to how Thor was able to get back to Earth.

Yes, I've been wondering how they'll do it too. My theory is probably crap but I'll put in in spoiler tags anyway ... ( THOR SPOILERS AHEAD)

First of all I thought that Shield would bring Thor down to Earth, but now I wonder if it will be Loki who launches Thor down to Earth into the middle of something big and dangerous. Loki mentioning that there were other ways to travel to places other than via the Bifrost was probably in the movie for a reason, even if it was never explained how he could do it.

Thor's a God, he should be the strongest... not Hulk.

Tell that to Marvel, because they don't seem to think so.

The word god is too often thrown around as if it always meant allpowerful creator, which is not the case. The word literally means 'person of power'. In the MCU the Asgardians are shown to be otherworldly aliens that were worshiped as gods because of their abilities, but by that definition any super powered being can be called a god as well. If Hulk were thrown back in time and encountered ancient peoples, would he not be called a god as well?
I understand the frustration with how they show power levels. Thor should never be shown as a weakling next to Hulk, they should be close to equals. In fact I'm comfortable with at certain instances Thor showing he is stronger. But if it comes down to a show of prolonged pure physical brute strength the Hulk should be shown to be at a higher level, even if slight.

This.
Agreed. I liked how Peter David compared Hulk to the Titan Prometheus in his Hulk: The End oneshot.

The Hulk can increase his strength.
Thor can't.
That means the Hulk is stronger.
Thor should be more powerful than the Hulk.
Think about it: Thor has more powers than the Hulk...so he is more powerful than the Hulk.

Thor has so many advantages over the Hulk that he should beat him easily if they were equal in strength...but the fact that most of their fights have ended in draws, shows that the Hulk has to have a strength advantage to compensate for Thor's massive powers.

Strength is the only thing the Hulk's got; it's his shtick.
He's not particularly smart...he's got messy hair and torn pants.
But he's the strongest. At least give him that on film!

I loved Hemsworth as Thor , totally has me pumped to see him back for the Avengers movie. I loved RDJ in Iron Man 1 but i think i enjoyed Hemsworth as Thor more so. I thought he was perfect for Thor.

I liked his performance. ANOTHER!!!

:argh:

Can I at least get a horse?

Heheh. You know that scene made me want to see an Asgardian pet shop

I just want to see Thor showing how strong he is like maybe lifting cars and hurling them across and i really want to see some more lightning

Hems is the man, although I think Branagh obviously also deserves a lot of the credit for coaxing one hell of a performance out of him.

Definitely. Around CC and the following trailers, I just couldn't quite peg Hemsworth as Thor. Mainly because the footage didn't properly show his personality. Not until the final trailer and the tv spots could a gauge Hemsworth. But by God, perfect casting. I'm so glad they weren't concerned with a known actor. That's what I love about Marvel. Their only concern is to get the best possible actor. Not the most bankable. And it worked out so well.

You just loved the guy. Even when he was a cocky bastard, you still liked him. Then when he turned around you just loved him. That's Thor. As shown, he's someone you can have a drink with.

I can't wait to see his interaction with everyone in the Avengers. So right now we only have RDJ and Hems to visualize in interaction with Renner and Johanson and Jackson as well. I can see them both playing well off eachother.

Plus this girl behind me was swooning over him. So that's a good sign.

I also would love to see the interaction between Hulk and Thor after their little fight.

I'll be disappointed if they don't strongly connect Thor and Avengers. Specifically you have to do stuff with Jane Foster. They have to figure out a way to get Natalie Portman in there so we can get more of Portman and Hemsworth together.

easy way for thor to show up
the only power he didn't display was his interdimensional portals he can create with mjolnir. remember odin said mjolnir was a weapon to destroy as well as create. im sure thor was never told about being able to make portals to other realms because he was to headstrong and would rush off to battle whenever and where ever he wanted.

now that he is a changed man maybe odin will tell him about this power or grant it to him. this will allow him to show up on earth for the avengers. also its the only power he hasn't shown yet so it would be a good surprise for people who don't know he can do that.
