The Dark Knight Will it be too dark for the children?

They wouldn't be staying true to the character of The Joker if TDK was that tame. The worst thing in BB was when people were under the fear gas, and that wasn't anything to write home about.

Yes, it was all pretty unthreatening and sanitized. Wonder why they didn't use the freakiest Scarecrow hallucination shown in the trailer

yeah i wondered why aswell
but usually what it looks like in trailers changes for the final product
look at spiderman 3

I do think that Nolan's Batman draws a more mature audience. I don't remember a whole lot of kids being at the theater for Batman Begins...but that could've just been the theaters I was seeing it at.

There wasn't a great deal of young kids at my screening ethier
mostly teens and adults

Same here. When I saw BB twice in theater, there were barely any little kids. Maybe a few, but it like I only saw 3 of 'em.

BatMan is strictly for teens and adults PERIOD!!! Children of our day and age have already ruined SpiderMan and I could care less about SuperMan; so HANDS OFF!!!!:cmad:

U do realize the whole point of them making Spider-Man a teenager was so kids could relate to him, right?

I disagree entirely.

I think it's wrong to alienate children because comic fans feel they are more entitled to the character. This attitude is why comic books are failing in sales nowadays, they are too exclusive.

Batman should be a darker character, yes. But not so much that only we can enjoy it.

i agree.

All I will say to this: Who cares if it's too dark for the children? :woot:

Batman Begins was kinda scary so im not sure about TDK....

I'm trying to think of something to write here, but all I can think about is Michael Caine saying "Heath Ledga."

What we should be asking is how many parents are gonna be carrying screaming children down the isles and out of the theaters when they see the Joker?

TOO DARK???? 4 THE KIDS???
I DON'T THINK SO.....AS LONG AS A KID THINKS OF BATMAN AS A "REAL" HERO THEN SOME KIDS WILL SHOW UP REGRADLESS!(W/PARENTS)

SO I THINK THAT SINCE NOLAN WENT WITH THE TITLE" THE DARK KNIGHT" "SOME" PEOPLE THINK AUTOMATICLLY IT'S GONNA BE " TOO DARK"
BUT WHAT IF NOLAN SAID"OK GOYER...PART 2 IS GONNA BE "SOTB" AND PART 3 CAME AROUND WITH THE TITLE (TDK) IN THIS ORDER WE WOULDN'T BE IN SUCH A DARK MOOD UNTIL PART 3 SHOW'D UP IN THAT TITLE AND ORDER....(CONFUSED?)DON'T BE.....

SO REALLY I THINK THE FILM(TDK) WILL BE DARK ONLY BECAUSE WERE GETTING A REAL JOKER AND A REAL 2 FACE(4 THE 1ST TIME)WE WOULD NOW SAY..THATS BELIEVEABLE!!!!!!

NO MORE FUNNY JOKER...NOW IT'S A BLUR VISON OF A MAN WITH A WHITE FACE AND GREEN HAIR IN UR FACE IN IMAX!!!SOUNDS SCAREY???? WILL IT SHOULD BE.....
THIS WILL BE A DARK FILM....AND CHILDREN MIGHT RECONSIDER NOT GOING AGAIN AFTER SEEING THE JOKER IN A WHOLE DIFF..WAY!!!!!!...which way?...IMAX BABY!!!!!

you always need to remember when dealing with the darker heroes (Bats,Punisher ECT)

you know that they are based from darker comics then say spiderman or superman
so really i can't see how people can say that it's too dark

warner brothers has hopefully learned their lesson from last time

It's not just Joker/Two-Face, it's dark because Bruce's optimistic plans lead to nothing but misery, he shouldn't be an unambiguous hero to Gotham. Even some of the "good guys" should despise him. Hopefully the simplistic good guy/bad guy line blurs anyway once things get tough

Why can't children enjoy dark movies as well? I was about four when my parents took me to see Batman '89 in theaters. It was a very dark movie, but I think I enjoyed it because of that. Batman Returns was even darker and I liked it even more. Batman is a much darker hero than most others, and parents should be well aware of that by now.
Those movies are suitable for children, yes. Mostly becuse the darkness is stylised. But many posters here are talking about Joker raping people, carving smiles into their faces, etc. That is simply too dark for Batman. Especially with Nolan's "realism" angle, which makes the darkness all the more threatening to children.

The animated series is praised as definitive Batman, and that was suitable for, and marketed towards, children.

I think it's selfish to say that only us can enjoy it, especially since we all liked Batman as kids.

I have heard that there will be a sex scene (Do not make me tell you who I think were having it). But I don’t think there will be one and I do not think this will be unsuitable for kids, just a bit boring for them. Kids still take up a huge amount of superhero fans and want to see something exiting and thus are attracted to Spiderman and assume batman will disappoint them. Also they cannot relate to batman as they can to Spiderman particularly wealth and age wise. In short they think batman is lacking in "coolness". I am not saying this is true, the comics invalidate these criticisms 100% and I have nothing against Spiderman. I think kids will judge batman by what they see in the films and Nolan's approach will only serve to validate these criticisms in the eyes of the kids. It also seems that there will be more court, legality and politics in this, things kids are not likely to understand.

I just want to say that the corny dialogue in Begins worked for me. Nothing is new under the sun, it's the execution that matters. Also, screw the whole different shades of grey bullcrap, sometimes things are really in just black and white.

Then there's no point them even pretending to make it believable, which they failed to do anyway. It's just a standard fantasy film without the fantastical. A middle ground that's the worst of both worlds

Gordon explains they think he is dangerous, the cops chase him, Raz thinks he's the good guy.

ed: From the screenshots seen of TDK, it looks as if he is inside a police station or working with the police.

If this film will not scare the kids away, the next one with Two-Face (if done better than in BF) sure will...so what the ****? They might as well start early - with this one :woot:

Christian Bale suggested last year the possibility of actually releasing 2 differently rated versions of TDK. One can be for over 17 and the other one PG 13. I don't know if that could be possible. It's never been done to my knowledge. But I would love to see a Joker that really lives up to the name of the maniac in the comic books and a Batman that actually displays his humanity, sexuality and rage in a deeper, darker manner.

I have a feeling this movie will be slightly darker than Begins was, but I dont think it's going to feature an abundance of intensely graphic violent images persay.. The insinuations and suggestions for the Joker's atrocities will be presented in the storyline of course, but I doubt we will get any full on gore scenes. This is the Joker, not leatherface or Jason Voorhees.

I have not yet read a Batman comic that I would say would warrant an R rating if translated to film, and that includes TDKR and Arkham Asylum.

You're kidding right? Both of those would definately be rated R. Read Arkham Asylum again...
