WW Composer Thread

Which funnily enough was composed by both Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard, even though he's the only one who won the Oscar for it.
If Junkie XL (my top choice, if only because of dat amazing Is She with You? track) doesn't get the job, then how about her. She's composed quite a few movie scores over the years - Jane Got a Gun, Layer Cake, The Insider - even if for the most part they were collaborations.

And yes... she also happens to be a woman, if you get what I mean. :o

Gerrard didn't compose anything for Gladiator, she was just the featured vocalist (like on The Bible). Quite frequently Zimmer will do this, give credit to someone who doesn't necessarily warrant it. Like on BvS, Junkie actually did less work than on Man of Steel, but for some reason got credit this time (maybe because of Mad Max's popularity). On MoS, Junkie wrote Zod's theme and was involved with anything using drums, but on BvS he only wrote 10% of Batman's theme and basically only arranged Zimmer's work on some other cues, he himself composed very little new material.

^ Interesting. Well, if true that's very nice of Zimmer.

I hope they keep the WW theme from BvS, as it's now become associated with the character, and they need an iconic and instantly recognisable theme. They're already going some way towards doing that by including it in the trailer.

But I hope we could even get a more classical rendition of that theme not played by an electric cello. And perhaps other themes in a similar vein.

Tina Guo (the electric cellist for WW) talks about recording the theme for BvS and being approached by Hans Zimmer here:

She also picked out a WW-inspired Spotify playlist for WW's 75th anniversary.

She looks like she could've played an Amazon herself in WW.

 Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome. Hopefully they get Tina Guo back to play on WW's movie even if they don't have the WW theme.

Edit. Maybe they should get Tina to compose the score for WW herself. If you go on her Facebook page and watch her live improvisations, they would fit right in as additional music to the Wonder Woman theme.

Using the theme in the trailer shows a commitment to that sound being associated with WonderGal.

source on this? I thought the whole point of bringing Junkie in was for Batman theme

Tina Guo gives the impression it's Zimmer's work for the WW theme. He is the one who asked her as he's worked with her before. She seems like the one who really gave it its distinctive sound though.

Zimmer wrote all of the new themes. Like I said previously, Junkie did maybe 10% of Batman's theme, and of course his Zod theme was reused, but that's it. He arranged the Bat theme for the Batmobile chase and the thug fight, but his involvement on this score was not as extensive as the co-credit would have you believe.

He was likely brought on to observe what Zimmer did so establish continuity with his
Justice League score. Zimmer will probably be back to supervise and assist on a few cues here and there, so don't fret his momentary absence.

Do we have any idea who will be composing this? I can't wait to hear variations of "Is She With You?"!!!

Her theme reminds me of the "The Immigrant Song". Awesome.

According to rumors, Trevor Morris is the music composer for Wonder Woman.

He was composer for TV series - Vikings, Tudors, video game Dragon Age: Inquisition, and movies like Immortals, Olympus has fallen.

Been listening to some of his stuff... not the worst choice, it seems fitting. Where did you hear this, though?

Hmm, not familiar with this guy's work at all. Hope he delivers something good.

I wouldn't say he's a great choice, but I definitely prefer him over using Junkie XL again.

Your telling me your not familiar with the score of the masterpiece that is Paul Blart Mall Cop?

From a quick check on Wikipedia he's done a bunch of Adam Sandler movies.

Some other stuff Hotel Rwanda, Legend of Tarzan, and Hacksaw Ridge

Rupert Gregson-Williams has worked with Hans Zimmer and his brother Harry at Media Ventures, so I expect WW to have a similar sound to that in MOS and BvS.

Considering they're using Zimmer's Wonder Woman theme, I suppose it makes sense.

In the trailers, at least. We don't know if it'll be heard in the movie.
