and civil war had as much in common with the source material as DOFP did

we need to stop acting like mcu is so damn faithful when its not

Complete BS.

The characters in Civil War are all faithfully rendered version of classic versions of those characters.

Outside of four characters, maybe five, the rest of the X-men don't even qualify as characters. They are ciphers.

When people talk comic faithfulness, they are not talking about plot.

Of course it doesn't have to be Watchmenesque, what I'm saying is that for example they can follow the Ultimate story line and some people will still whine because they wanted the Astonishing version adapted instead.

Nobody is talking about storylines. People want their characters serviced.

Of course not everyone will be satisfied. But the trick is to satisfy most.

Yeah, sure they are.

Agree with every word.

The only characters this franchise has done justice too are Xavier, Magneto and Wolverine.

Mystique has characterisation, it's just not the characterisation I want for that character.

That's an appalling track record for a franchise spanning 16 years.

^its the end of the trilogy of the guys from first class of coruse they are gonna get the bulk of development

You do realize 'the guys' you think this film is only developing is because Singer killed the rest off screen in DOFP right?

People are just sick and tired of seeing the same repetitive movie over and over again. After a point you just don't care that much anymore. You need to keep it fresh. I'm sick and tired of the Magneto storyline. Can we move the F on to other things ? Each goddamn movie it's Magneto Magneto Magneto and his storyline was fun for about 2 films but gooooddaaaaaaamn it's been what 6 now ?

Then you have JLaw and her phoning in, diva attitude and what not and no wonder people aren't attracted to this film.

Exactly.

And that's the problem here. As a Storm fan I've been waiting forever to see her handled faithfully. And I can't even imagine the butt hurt Rogue fans are feeling right now. As a collective we've all raised our voices for change and you know the studio hears us. But...they don't care. Instead they keep the focus on characters few give a f*** about. Like...Mystique. We stare at her ass for the whole movie and the most popular X-Men are off-screen in the background, year after year, one movie after another.

People are tired. It's been 16 years of non-stop Wolverine, Xavier, Magneto and Mystique. I think this weekend's box office numbers show that the fans are done--the love affair is over.

I hope FOX gets the memo...the message is loud and clear this weekend.

It's fun watching y'all defend each others opinions because someone else don't agree with what you said.

So true!

When Apocalypse makes Erik reach down to the ground at the concentration camp (and then all the flashbacks to the first X-Men, FC, etc came next) I literally rolled my eyes and said "Here we f***ing go AGAIN with this bipolar-ass storyline."

You just introduced Psylocke, Angel AND Storm with NEW actors not even 2 minutes ago--and all three of them--and us as an audience--are looking at Magneto having another EMO moment. Again.

I feel like the original 3 were focused heavily on Wolverine, though Magneto was a villain in 1 and 3. He was obviously the focus in FC, but Days of Future Past was at its core about Charles. I am a huge Magneto fan myself and I loved the bits with his family. But, I think the execution of the rest was redundant and sloppy. Professor X believes there is good in Erik. Erik decides not to go through this genocide plan abruptly because Raven reminds him that he has a family, so cheesy and contrived. And the concentration camp scene was frustrating and not tasteful.

In any case, I think it is fair to say that these movies have focused a lot on Wolverine and Professor X V. Magneto, and if this franchise is going to have a future, it needs to tell other stories.

Lets not go there with conspiracies and state it as fact. The man who accused him was found out to be a complete fraud.

Accusing someone of rape without proof is dangerous and destructive. And if that person is innocent, it makes them a victim as well.

I recently read that the fallout between Berry and Singer was because he basically had underage boys (implied there was inappropriate relations) on the X-Men set and she was not okay with it and told the studio, so he tried to make life difficult for her. I don't know which X-Men movie but that's how it went down. There was that documentary about pedophilia in Hollywood that came out a while ago and Singer was named in it. I don't doubt it, you can tell by the people he surrounds himself with. :csad: I don't know how people on this forum feel about it or how it stands but is it what it is. :csad:

If that's true, that's pretty f***ed up.

And he definitely made Halle Berry's character suffer. Although I think it's mostly because he doesn't care about Storm...or Rogue...or anyone else who's name doesn't begin with a W, M or X. :whatever:

I sure wouldn't.after the crap that was BVS merging 2 priopties i don't think it
good idea.plus there is possibilty X-men would be villains and Avengers
the heroes.plus who do you make it work.Marvel is replacing mutants with
Inhumans for MCU and short of some anomaly in space time how would you
get them together In a film.I am still curious how being on the CW will affect Supergirl especilly to do crossovers with CW exsisting DC shows.
This isn't something I want now, only after X-men films have reached their potential with say a trliogy that is universally loved doing all the main characters justice over the course of it. Once that's been done then I wouldn't mind how they are portrayed in a crossover as everyone would know for sure that both teams are really heroes (like they know both sides in CW are heroes due to prior films). As to how can it work, that's the job of skilled writers and directors. These kind of concepts are more difficult than a standard solo hero story and I could see many competent filmmakers failing but then CW shouldn't have worked and even Avengers shouldn't have worked but we now know it's possible to have 12 heroes in a film and for it to work (with many more planned for Infinity war, another set of films that in theory shouldn't work, and in concept is on a similar level to what an Avengers Vs X-men would be). An Inhumans vs X-Men might make sense too. Of course we're only talking of things that might be possible in decades, and maybe not even then.

The thing is that in CW's case the source material was terrible. Following that crap faithfully would have been a jump the shark for the MCU. If adopting a good story be faithful a bad one not so much.

I don't mind Xavier getting a focus in every film it being his dream and all. Magneto should be a recurring main villain who disappears between films. Wolverine is a great character but he's not the only X-Man and I don't mind if he's in every film as long as the focus is shared with other main characters. This is a misconception that the GA has that the X-men only have one really good character, because they haven't seen the evidence to show otherwise even after so many films. And Mystique has been massively overrepresented. She worked really well in the first few films as a secondary villain but it hasn't worked from FC onwards. JL is great but there are better things out there for her.

I can't say I'm surprised Apocalypse did poorly. There was so little buzz surrounding this movie in the months and weeks prior to release, at least compared to the other comic book movies being released this year. Even Suicide Squad and Dr. Strange seem to have more excitement and those movies don't even come out for months.

I don't know if the marketing team just did a poor job, but outside of comic book movie forums I barely ever saw anybody talking about this film. This was not the case for DOFP two years ago.

Less is more when it comes to movies, Blue and Gold teams here is character bloat, the same problem XM:APOC suffers from.

Beast needs to go, I never liked him in the movies -too cheezy looking. Too many "blue" characters altogether.

The strongest, and most successful lineup of X-Men was the "All-New, All -Different" squad that replaced the original X-Men in the late 70s -with Phoenix, leading up to the Dark Phoenix storyline by Claremont and Byrne. Banshee can be axed in favor of Kitty or Psylocke to get some gender equality.

The same problems CW suffered and IW will suffer. Also I know you are a GoT watcher and that has the most main characters of anything ever. ;). It has more main characters in the first few episodes (movie equivalent time) than the majority of films. 2 teams would be too much for a first film but when you have the equivalent of an X-Men cinematic universe done right it is something that can be built towards once the underlying characters have already been developed in prior films. Then you can choose to focus on a few for an event film crossover and the others just need a few good moments each while enriching the film from the background. I really hope we can get exactly what you posted one day, even if it is decades away and CW gives me faith it can work.

The marketing focused on Apocalypse spouting off on his soapbox and his mostly non-entity horsemen (Psylocke was twice shown slicing that car in the same trailer yet hardly spoke in the film)... It didn't really focus on the main X-Men characters (Jean, Scott, Storm, Nightcrawler, Quicksilver) and that is a fault both of the marketing and the movie itself. The emphasis is all skewed.

This place is a **** show right now. It's the #1 movie in the world again for the 2nd week in a row. it didn't do as well as other CBM this year but it's still the best one of 2016 imo. This place I'm going to take a few weeks off from this place I think. Can't stand all the think pieces.

No worries. Bye. :csad: *waves*
