imo the marketing hurt XMA the trailer were just okay

BVS was all on the reviews

The movie is far from reaching $300 million. :(

Apocalypse has made €1,158,711 ($1,524,847 according to box office mojo) after two weeks at the dutch box office.

It debuted here at no.1 with €732,546 and dropped to no.2 in the following week with €426,165. Alice is now no.1 with a slightly better gross of € 454,475.

As of Wednesday night the IMAX 3D run is over to make way for Warcraft. So the gross will almost certainly drop again in week 3.

Had Civil War not been released so closely to this i think it could have made more. The marketing didn't really heat up until after Civil War debuted.

I think the "superhero fatigue" comes down to these type of movies been released in quick succession of each other. Deadpool (Feb), BVS (March), Civil War (April) and X-Men (May).

X-Men Apocalypse might be one too many for some unfortunately....

Some theaters got better than Posters...like those stands where you can stand in and get a pic with the X-Men cast. I KNOW they are somewhere, but I don't know where. I wanted to jump in on in costume and take a pic with it.

Go to the nearest IMAX!

Like I was really looking for standees and a big wall poster.... then I went to the nearest IMAX and they have those, they even had an IMAX/X-Men: Apocalypse logo wall red-carpet thingy. It was amazing! :ilv:

They even sell a plastic popcorn bucket with Apocalypse holding a skull picture on it. But I didn't buy the Apocalypse bucket because I didn't love the movie, maybe it had Psylocke's face, I would have bought it.

I think that could be a reason also

I'm just worried that low box office numbers like X-Men Apocalypse and BvS are a result of some superhero fatigue

Eh not really. BVS had an amazing start but had terrible legs because the movie was pretty bad. The marketing for that film was just everywhere! While Apocalypse, besides of the so-so marketing and mixed reviews.... the First Class cast and the new cast members just didn't transcend to the masses compare to the previous X-Men films!

Wow! Sounds awesome! :)

Seems mine predictions are coming true. Both in grossing less than $600M WW and in prediction that this movie will suffer from certain fatigue releasing it in short span of 2 superhero blockbusters right before it.

I think F7 benefitted a lot from the tragic death of Paul Walker, but it was completely out of their control. I'm interested to see how the next one will perform now that they're without one of their main stars.

Yeah, I think Avengers, Fast, Jurassic and Star Wars all hit their peak for this gen. They can stay in the general region of their previous entries like say AOU did, but they can't replicate the hype of those films. Making as many films as Marvel does it's impressive they have had as many billion dollar hits in such a short time. Keeping that interest is not as easy as people think.

This movie's hope is the overseas gross.

The ArcLight in Culver City had a setup where you could get your pic taken with Angry Birds, but not with X-Men. LOL...

I have a good selfie with Storm. :)

yeah it's not even out in China or Japan yet, that should add a little extra to its WW number.

I find China very difficult to predict on movies like this.

This is a case where I think you can genuinely say fatigue plays a big factor. The reviews certainly didn't help, and I'm not someone who fully buys into the idea of superhero fatigue, but we just had the three huge superhero movies already come out and then Apocalypse shows up at the tail end of the run, with some underwhelming trailers and relatively non-existent hype, to these mediocre numbers. Sure, I'm sure the reviews didn't help any, but even if the movie was as well received as DOFP, I still say the box office would have been underwhelming. I think this says less about the genre and more about this specific franchise, but movies like this aren't going to help the genre long-term.

last two X-Men movies in China (according to boxofficemojo)

Days of Future Past total $116,490,000 / opening: $39,350,000
The Wolverine: total
$ 40, 570,000/opening $18,170,000

$ 80,000,000 seems to be totally fine then in comparison?! Why so much
doom-mongering?

Because it's not exactly Avatar money ;)

There really is a billion-or-bust mentality around here.

The budget was purportedly less than 200 million, so they'll probably be fine with it doing averagely ok and still turn a profit.

China will most likely help the film get passed 600 million worldwide at least.

If China does give 80M, the studio will get about 16M out of it.

China is really good for helping achieve bragging rights for a Movie's Gross, but it gives a small cut to the studio. It's like icing on a cake.

Fan BingBing will have no doubt helped in China for DoFP. No big Chinese star in Apocalypse, so it could generate less.

Bad movie fatigue... maybe if we had 1 or 2 superhero movies a year they could both make all the money. But there are just tooooo many options out there for people to go see them all especially without good WOM.

I think WOM is becoming more important with such a crowded blockbuster movie schedule.
