Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 6

I don't like X-Men in Space stories in the comic-books

Then why over a year ago did you have it down in your signature for X-MEN IN SPACE!

ut if the story is poor and the audience knows that its just another prequel (prequel rarely do well at the box-office). People won't show up.

Origins the prequel technically did better then the wolverine since it dropped domestically with 3D, go figure, apparently the non-prequel nature of the wolverine didn't help it because less people see it then they did origins.

And FC actually made more domestically then The wolverine did without 3D and wolverine is hyped to be the main draw.

Psy has totally turned on X-men since storm, psylocke, and jubilee weren't focus of apocalypse..keep claiming apocalypse and any sequel would be prequels is getting anoying.they may be set in years that happened before years of original films but they don't led into original films.he has joined the give marvel X-men crowd.

There's no certainty about where they are going next. We don't know and I rather suspect they don't know for sure yet either. All eyes are on the Apocalypse box office and also on Wolverine 3, as well as on Deadpool 2 (no surprise it's moving forward fast, money talks).

A space epic may be deemed financially risky if XM:A is seen as underperforming.

If they are thinking of returning to the original cast, they have to take into account Wolverine 3 was planned as Jackman's last movie.

If they are continuing with the new young cast, they have to make a much bolder, fresher start in the next movie.

In either scenario, they need a new director.
Yes to the bold this I agree with. I also agree that a space adventure would be very risky and I don't think it would be cheap both of which I stated as well I truly don't know where they are planning on visiting next. I would love Sinister or even Charles evil sister I think that would be pretty awesome, I looooved that storyline. I'm hoping for some kind of news about the main XMen team though I truly don't feel they are going the OT route at all, their big draw Jackman won't be there and very little people would care to see them move forward with a crappy Rogue,Colossus,Bobby or Kitty. I really think regardless the future is with the new cast which is why they were introduced the way they were in Apocalypse. The next film will have them it's just the storyline and villian isn't worked out yet. The end got me so excited that's why I'm dreading so much to wait because that's the moment I wanted and they should continue forward with that. I think if they focus on the XMen and continue to nail the characters personas it will do well with a good script and storyline.

I think they should avoid going to space.

Honestly, I believe that a lot of the attempts to make this movie more like the comics in different areas is actually what hurt it over all.

There were parts I thought were awesome (like the ending) that a lot of non-comic-fans I know just thought were almost embarrassingly cheesy.

If they make it even more "comic-booky" I think it really will be the death knell of the franchise.

(Also, the whole "X-Men in space" thing even at the time was clearly a cheap cash-in on the popularity of Star Wars).

It was a lot of surface level fanservice stuff that just got in the way of the actual storytelling I feel like. It was too bloated - let's reference Magneto losing his family/Nightcrawler's origins/Storm's thievery/do things we couldn't do in X1 with Scott/fix Jean/redo Weapon X and setup the next film/Archangel/Morlocks//hint at Proteus/tie up ends from FC etc. Like they're accurate but never built upon or developed and it ends up making the film feel patched together.

Agreed. There was also a LOT pulled from the other movies, throwbacks to dialogue and other parallels. It's really great if you've seen the movies enough to piece it all together, but you can't rely on the general audience remembering entire sections of dialogue from a film 16 years ago to understand the importance of scenes.

Right. And the movies are kind of going in circles and recycling the same tropes. Professor X and Magneto disagree. Raven is conflicted about her blue natural form. Professor X thinks Raven sounds too much like Erik. Professor X is captured. Magneto switches sides.

We need to explore new terrain and tell different kinds of stories.

New writers and directors to help make that happen.

:wowe: now this is fact here and it would really help with the reception of the film. I agree with all of this.

I don't think that going more comic book-y will be the death knell of the franchise however, they just need to adapt storylines as well as Singer and co. adapted God Loves, Man Kills in 2003. There's a reason why that film holds up after all this time and it's because it's a great script first and foremost. Looking back on it now, it's kinda crazy how well they adapted God Loves, Man Kills, while reworking the character of Stryker to integrate the Weapon X storyline and sprinkling in bits of the Phoenix storyline.

So I think a relatively faithful approach to space is definitely possible, they just have to adapt it well instead of just being like, "Hey look! Shi'ar Imperial Guard! Gladiator! M'Kraan Crystal! Aren't we great because we're referencing everything!"

Space shouldn't be first film, they need to take their time to make a good story that give us affection and real root with those character and the new world. In that optic i think if there is a time jump it should be the last and then just go on for the next trilogy. They need to have a vision and really give it a coherent feeling from the start, day one. They have so much to draw from, coming from the comic as well as the films, there brilliance and there flaws. Apocalypse was about not holding up on potential anymore i hope they are really in that mind state and they settle us right for a blast, but progressivelly, masterfully....

I really want them in space, i think the X-Men work wonder out there but i would prefer one hour in space superbly done than a whole movie that end up meh. They need to work the team dynamic in the first movie and give it a rythm, like a music beetwen them, and in the other films maybe add a member or two along the road, give variations of the themes, make bumps in the rythm, make low tide high tide. If they keep the mood switch in the other movies they need to work it up, they need to forge the characters, their tone, melt it on them like some armor or idk

I'd rather they focus on some of the darker things from the comics; with a lot of right wing growth across the West you could make it more topical.

Maybe merge elements of the Morlocks story with X-Tinction agenda; with mutants in hiding so they're not sent to "serve their country".

I want to see Morlocks and politiczl, social, implications too but they coearly are letting the darker tone behind for a more goofy one. There will still be some serious stuff i'm sure.

My take would be a first film to settle the world well, situation explained as their place in the world, whatever vilain fit a theme, an hint of Sinister maybe, something social, maybe a dazzler concert

Second movie would be proteus and space, totally mind blowing movie

Third movie would be return of Magneto who is in the Savage Land (wich would feel right for the character after he lost his family in the woods), some connection to Sinister, Genosha maybe and there a real melt dosn of poiltical and social theme when the X-Men came back from space, from the other side, when they really have something out of this world to bring to the society, a new level of experiences.

I think they should also keep focused on more global ideas like technology, nature and the role of mutation, different level of preoccupatio: emotionall, social, scientifical, belief of the place in the universe and higher powers (shia'r, they could have so many things to bring in therm of ideas and thought process from a different space/time) and all the variatons and interconnecion those themes can bring.

Whoop clocked, so weird how people change their tune just because they mad the OT aren't coming back :lmao::lmao: Fox will continue forward with the new cast not the OT, people really need to deal.

This. Wolverine 3 will be the last time we see any of them and that's just fine.

In theory fox could have indivual members in supporting roles or cameos in
Deadpool sequels and X-force or if set in present New mutants but it's
more likely new mutants is set in past with Mcavoy as Xavier and original
cast is done with wolverine film.and deadpool sequels,X-force,and if ever
made gambit will deal with other characters.

They could, but that would only make things worse. I hope they won't. I think they won't. I think they are smart enough to realize that would be a really bad move. :)

and i don't think they will.I am pretty sure whatever next year's wolverine
film is called it will be end of original cast.

New Mutants will probally be set in past post apocalypse.Mcavoy by all indications is prepared to come back for more films.we will have to wait and
see if rumor is true and they use one of 2 more films Shipp has on her contract
for new mutants.

I can entertain possibilty wolverine film won't be end of all original cast but i don't think it's likely they will be back once jackman Is gone.

I think that a new movie in the past with a teen versions is a bad mistake.

Well it's not going to happen so deal, Sophie is the new Jean now. Idk why your so adamant about them when the majority of the ones in the roles were absolute garbage.

I agree I think it will be a nice send off to have them in Wolverine 3, if they are indeed in it.

just let it go!

Although I would kill for having Ellen Page and Anna Paquin in their roles back...Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde was one of the best castings in the series for me. Unfortunately she never got the chance to develop the character...
