Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 6

I wouldn't. Not when $200+ million was spent on the film from production to marketing and the profits are split between various parties, especially in regards to overseas revenue.

Fox distributes a lot of films themselves overseas, so they see a little more return from overseas box office.

A lot can vary studio to studio. Disney sees a larger return too because they distribute their own films.

I thought this was out of theatres?

My friend in Wisconsin may see it tomorrow. Is Boxofficemojo just not keeping track of it currently?

I guess that we haven't heard any official announcement yet for any X-Men sequel in the near future shows that FOX is not very happy about the current performance of "X-Men: Apocalypse" and has to figure out what they will do next?! Gambit also came to a halt and Deadpool & X-Force will probably become FOX's central concern now...

Fox have never been very forward thinking. It was unusual to see Apocalypse greenlit so quickly and that can be attributed to the energy surrounding DOFP. Singer isn't yearning for another one this time around, so there's a bit more to sort out behind the scenes, and that would have been the case regardless of its success.

That said, it certainly doesn't help it your film sucks. I would be shocked if people at Fox were looking at this film like it was any kind of success.

Bloomberg's net profit analysis for the various films this summer suggests the film will make a bit over $50 million in profit for the studio. The article also includes net projections for the studios as a whole -- FOX is right above the profitability mark; wow, poor Paramount. Fire whoever greenlit Ben-Hur.

So it did make a profit of 50 million before video. Suck it haters!

So it's exactly where I said it would be in profit hmm... anyone else want to try to tell me it didn't make a profit and DOFP did?

X-men Apocalypse third week in Japan : $375,814

It has made $7,360,778 after three weeks. Which is not far off DOFP's end total of $9,983,199.

Off topic;Johnny Depp must be really loved in Japan. Because Alice Through the Looking Glass has been a success over there with $26,707,274!!

Interesting...Boxofficemojo tend to do that. For example, they stopped updating the numbers for Deadpool on April 10 in my country. Yet i recall being there when my local multiplex had it's final showing on April 27 (King's Day). And the movie was still shown in one or two other cinemas in May.

I guess the studios (or BMO) don't keep track of the figures when the per-theater average drops below a certain number. Even though every dollar (or euro in this case) should count.

Good, thanks for sharing.

Blame Fox for that, studios are the ones who send the numbers/estimates. Box-office mojo is just the messenger.

Yeah, it says

"Based on reported box office, projections for home entertainment and tv, along with estimates for production and marketing costs, and revenue splits with theaters."

Movies don't get made just so they can make a profit after going to home video. A blockbuster not making a profit in it's theatrical run is not a good thing

Of course, but there will continue to be a bit of denial with that from a few who just refuse to see these as disappointing numbers.

True as well.

Any way you slice it when the previous version of your film series makes over 700 mill and then your next one does even crack 600 mill, that's not good even if you spent less money making the 2nd movie. No denying that...but some might

Exactly.

They needed to drop the budget from DOFP cause even with that film Fox likely wanted more profit out of it. It's not like the franchise hits Pirates, Transformer, Batman or Avenger numbers. They were hoping to hit the same or at least close to the numbers of DOFP here while gaining about 20m on production cuts.

Instead they had over a 200m drop. Clearly not what they wanted to happen. They release another X-Men film with a drop like that and it's losing the studio a pretty significant amount of money. The next film either needs to be series best material or very cheap.

Yes, the X-Men franchise is doomed. DOOOOOMED!

maybe we need MARVEL to save us? What about MARVEL bringing the old cast back while rebooting the universe with colorful costumes ?! :whatever: hihi

Lol The franchise is doomed. The 17 year old franchise only made 1.3 billion this year. FOX should cancel the whole thing.

The movie underperformed. If the next one sucks the IP is dead and ready to be reinvented. That's how it goes.

They don't make films so they can continue to drop by the hundreds of millions.

Some people man...I dont get it.

You wanna whine about being negative but the news about the movie's box office is negative. That's the truth. You wanna whine then whine at the people who didn't see the movie. Whine at the filmmakers. Whining at the people who are just stating the truth about the situation is just silly.

This is a mistep in the franchise. No the franchise isn't doomed, but what is happening/has happened with Apolcalypse isn't good.

As I said above, they don't make movies just so they don't even start making them a profit at the box office. THere isn't even the silver lining of "at least it's critically acclaimed" or "at least fans seem to like it"

Fair enough. Ah, but I remember when Xmen 3 and Xmen origins were suppose to be the franchise killers. We just have to wait and see what happens. Its never simple or straightforward with this franchise.

I never said this was franchise killer so I dont know why you bring it up at a post directed at me

EDIT: I havent even seen many people on here proclaiming it as a franchise killer

Problem is we have heard it all already, its alot of same old talk which usually kills the thread, then someone says something that stands out as positive like the film turning in a profit then certain people come back to whine whine whine about stuff thats already been said just so they can beat the film back down again.

Its pretty much FOX's move now, i don't see a huge change happening personally, nor do i see a big switch to OC to present day happening, no matter what happens now i believe we will see this new cast again whether its their own film or another film.

They don't make films so they can continue to drop by the hundreds of millions.

Should marvel be scared then?

Oh sorry, was referring Def28 posts. I'm not saying anyone is calling it a franchise killer, just saying that the franchise has been in worse shape in the past.

Absolutely no one is saying FOX is going to stop making X-Men movies. But the franchise is going to change - the fact that a sequel hasn't been announced is a fairly big sign. My thoughts prior to the release of XM:A was that there was a very good chance the kids were going to be left back in the 80s and the series would go forward with features set in the present day built around Deadpool, X-Force and New Mutants. I'm even more convinced that's the way the studio will go.
