Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 6

Apocalypse has fallen out of top 10 so it won't be making much more.it defently won't be making the 157 million X-Men made in 2000.It has made more than the wolverine and
First class though.

Fox may do a re-release/theater expansion later in the summer; hoping to gross closer to $160M domestic.

They did this with DOFP later in summer of 2014 hoping to pass X3's domestic box office. They got close lol.

Second highest grossing x-men film.

Second highest grossing x-men film.

I know.out of 6 main X-Men films it's second highest grossing X-Men overseas and WW.

First Class and the wolverine which made less money than apocalypse got sequels so it's hard to imagine apocalypse doesn't get a sequel.

A lot of people seem to be overlooking this. How times have changed that we now consider $525-530million WW disappointing.

to some if you don't make a billion WW it's viewed as disappointment.

525-530 Million is a lot of money.and it hasn't even opened In Japan yet.

With lack of original cast in promation like DOFP and critics gunning for it
it did very well for a first class sequel.

See that's the thing as well. Apocalypse played very much like a sequel to First Class in many ways. DOFP, as Kinberg said, was their Avengers style movie, with both casts coming together for an epic story. With that in mind it's understandable and hardly surprising that Apocalypse didn't make the same as DOFP - and that's not a bad thing. DOFP is and should have been the pinacle of the franchise so far.

I agree with what you said.they even said it's more of a first class sequel.

Without inflation and 3D is not a good box office.

Exactly that's how I always viewed this film.

Second highest grossing x-men film.

Third.

ASM2 grossed over 700m. BvS made over 800mm. Those are still looked at as disappointments. Because all these films have high budgets, pricey marketing and showed drops from their franchise. It puts them in risks of more films when they fall like that.

This isn't 2006 where X-Men isn't making any money form places like China. Saying this is the second highest grossing film doesn't mean much with the international market change, IMAX and 3D. Domestically this thing is struggling to hit X-Men 1 numbers. And adjusted even First Class. Cause with 3D First Class likely would have made more.

There was a reason 500m isn't even an option in this poll and the majority were choosing 600m +. X-Men should be making far more, especially following their most critically received film only two years ago.

Again, this wasn't a bomb. But it is gonna make Fox approach with caution regarding the new film which will be risky to now give a higher budget to. They can't have another drop like this.

adjusted numbers doesn't mean much when there is no adjustment for inflation for foregin box office.and most films since avatar now are in 3-d

with hate from critics apocalypse still did almost as well as adjusted for inflination for the more critics loved first Class.

747 million WW for Days of future past

1:Time to face facts is the first class cast isn't as loved as original cast. That's clear.Problem is original cast isn't coming back with jackman out the door after he finishes untitled wolverine film.Last stand a clear bad film with adjusted for inflination in 2016 dollors would make 306 million and X2 made 305 in adjusted dollors.even DOFP the avengers of X-Men films would adjust to 241 million.
2:Some clearly have agenda wanting to decry Apocalypse as failure.except for deadpool they want X-Men be given to disney and made part of MCU or failing that fox turn X-Men into avengers lite

as i have said numrous times before X-Men is not going to make BVS,Iron man,and avengers money. It remains to be seen if even justice league will make BVS superman money.Having recently seeing apocalypse again it clealry embraced more comic booky elements and even took a bit of inspiration from both 1990's animated series, and X-Men evolution animated show.

If you scrap drama, dar tone, seriouness, and allegary and just make X-Men bunch of characters having fun around the mansion till they had to fight bad guy and cracking quips as they fight villains then maybe X-men would make close to billion but they wouldn't be X-Men they would be copy of avengers.

Even in comics back in 1980's and 1990's they were tons of difference between X-Men and avengers.X-Men and avengers films tons are vastily different.

Deadpool is totally different from X-Men.Deadpool is action comedy where deadpool consently telling jokes breaking courth wall.no big issues for audences to think about, more comedic tone, and ending that is throwback to revenge films which deadpool is partly where villain is killed by the anti-hero

X1, X2 and X3 didn't have the modern China box office. It means plenty when people are trying to directly compare them to the worldwide gross of a 2016 film that does. Those films would have clearly made far more with the current international box office.

Of course the mixed reviews hurt this film. First Class even with being well received had more going against it. Being a completely new cast, lack of main X-Men and following the least well received X-Men films. Make a bad film with the same name and guess what, audiences lose interest in the next.

As for Deadpool give me a break. Like you knew critics and audiences were going to latch onto it breaking records. X3 wasn't far from those domestic numbers Deadpool hit. The X-Men franchise can hit those numbers. People go to X-Men, Avengers, Batman and Spider-Man for the same reason as Deadpool, entertainment. Plain and simple. If audiences had an issue with dark films the Dark Knight flicks would have not made over a billion.

When Deadpool without China and 3D, with an R rating can make $783+ million, when Guardians of the Galaxy can make $770+ million, $530-40 million for your trilogy finale is very disappointing. Especially following a $740 million sequel.

Without China, the film has barely grossed over $400 million worldwide. The X-Men films used to do that 13 years ago, without 3D, without China, without inflation.

Instead of gaining new audience, the franchise is losing it. There's no freshness, no imagination, nothing that we haven't seen before.

The saga needs some new life and a new direction.

You seem to be really insecure about the film rights, the detractors of these films/franchise and or certain directors coming into this franchise and somehow turning it into something you don't like. Relax and try not to put a limit on this franchise's potential yourself. The X-Men can be many things and it's time the franchise actively take advantage of its vast history.

can it still reach $600 million?

Most likely no the closest thing we could do is 550 at most.

Is there an adequate translation for the German word 'Schadenfreude' in English...? I feel like many people here are a little bit too filled with malicious joy that the X-Men movies have FINALLY disappointed at the boxoffice...

Yeah, we all got it. The newest X-Men movie bomded haaaard. :whatever: buhu, capitalist catastrophe of apocalyptic proportion. Singer has failed miserably and has to pay Jennifer Lawrence's salary from his own pocket money now.

I don't understand the China argument to be honest. so how much marketing budget did FOX invest into the new Chinese market, which they did not use to promote the movie in other countries like they did in past years? You say the market changed since the early 2000 years. So how did FOX's marketing plan changed for these movies? Did FOX maybe focuses on different countries to sell the movie which effected other boxoffice results...?

Well X-Men origins did pretty well at the box office with just jackman and a new characters and it being leaked early with no 3D and then of course we got FC and then we got the wolverine after which was set modern day and marketed with Famke involved and it made less domestically then X-Men First class and Adjusted for Inflation it made less also

Now obviously we are comparing a new cast to the spotlighted character of the franchise 5 films in and that he was in a bad movie previously before hand but hey its still wolverine... the character who many have said without him an X-Men movie would struggle, so when the person people seem to depend on to make money in these X-Men movies took abit a dive himself... this franchise was never on the most stable legs box office wise.

its not an issue of cast its quite clearly more an issue of the franchise in general, perhaps the movies need a fresh more exciting direction now to compete with comic book movies of today rather then stick to the X1 formula.
