Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Right, she's a nobody. And she did fine last time around in Apocalypse, I actually really like this casting and there's potential there. But, like the Cyclops kid, she's no one, and she probably doesn't have a particularly skyrocketing career ahead of her. You're a young up and coming actor, you've currently had a lot more success than a bunch of actors your age ever see, just see it for what it is: a blockbuster CG-fest summer movie where you get some exposure and line your wallet. When you're a McAvoy in name or it's a movie centering around Storm, the wheel'll turn and it'll be the Storm Show.

She's in an ensemble movie with 10+ characters, in a story focused around Jean and with McAvoy, Fassbender, and Chastain obvious to get the rest of the screentime glory due to being, you know, names. And among the newbies she got plenty to do in the last movie anyway, much more than Smit-McPhee or whoever. Basically she just comes off as every stereotype of a whiney college kid imaginable Like, it's one thing for Halle Berry to kinda get shafted, she was an actual name with a profile and the cast was smaller. But contextually, here Shipp's totally making a mountain out of a molehill. I also seriously doubt she signed onto Apocalypse for the potential for a meaty character study rather than a fat paycheck and her name on a multiplex marquee.

Even if she does feel this way, you don't goddamn express it as a press tour's kicking off. Wait a year, just shut up and show some basic-level professional tact. Soft skills, social skills, totally lost on these kids.

Like, pretty sure even Mickey freakin' trainwreck Rourke waited twelve months before ****talking Iron Man 2. If that guy can manage it, Shipp's got no leg to stand on here. And even then Rourke's at least a minor commodity with a history, taking a hatchet to the scenes he's filmed is a bigger deal than the actor nobody's ever heard of who caught a break being cast in X-Men not getting a big a part as the actor who's playing the character in the frickin' movie title.

Yeah, she's certainly not doing her career any favors with some of the comments.

Shippwreck :o is not in the same category as J.Law, who is an academy award winning actress and the face of the Hunger Games franchise.

So it's ok if she throws tantrums and badmouths the X-men? As fans we should let one slide but drag the other?

Oh, no, I hated Lawrence's annoying comments. I'm just saying that they are not that comparable as Lawrence is actually a name.

I understand, but I couldn't care less that JLaw "is a name."

If anything JLaw treats the X-men like trash and "Shippwreck" is fighting for a decent role for Storm, one where she actually "talks to her teammates" in the movie. Is that too much to ask? I know Shipp has said some questionable things in the past, especially on twitter. But she's actually right this time, IMO.

Two actresses biting the hand that feeds them: One couldn't care less about the material, jokes about wanting to be anywhere but here, and encourages the filmmakers to have her in less and less make up every movie; The other might have initially moaned about being replaced but seems to have backed off on that would just like a better treatment of the character, even if she wasn't playing her.

As a fan, one guess who I'm siding with.

its really sad to see an actress that plays one of the most important/iconic female superheroes ever, suggesting she is unsatisfied with the treatment to her character.

and this is not the first time it happens, Halle wasnt happy with the treatment to Storm in the original trilogy, and 10 years later, a different actress, this time much younger, a "fresh face", isnt happy either.

Its pretty clear that Fox, Singer and Kinberg just arent the guys for this property.

I think that’s a fair point, though I’m pretty sure Halle’s dissatisfaction was motivated by her simply wanting more screen time. Not because she was playing Storm, but because she’s Halle Berry. :o

It should be okay to speak their mind.

Obviously, it's all on a cases by cases basis, and not strictly I will paint with a broad brush, so to speak.

I'd be on the general idea to not bash on the movie you are in. And that doesn't change by how big or small of an actor you are.

There could be exceptions, but it'd be for something more important than role size or whether you like the material.

I don't think she's like that. She's an actress playing one of the fiercest X-Women in fiction. She probably eXpected better.

The other one just comes across as whiny and combative, she probably needs media training. Actors get hate tweets all the time and they don't always get the role that they want. She's not the first woman in this franchise (Halle, Anna and Famke all eXpressed their feelings) not to be happy with the role that they got. But when Shipp says something, she just doesn't come off very well.

Yes, Shipp is not always the sharpest knife in the drawer, but she is right. I don't disagree there. She's saying the same stuff that we have been saying on this board for a while. It's just odd seeing her badmouth the movie she's in before it even comes out but I guess she doesn't care anymore :hehe:

Her timing is just not very good. If I were here I would just shut my mouth.

Doesn't she have a manager? I still remember when she was happy to tell people online, that Apocalypse was made for the fans! and that she wasn't gonna get fired/recast with the news regarding the Disney merger!

And I guess she finally realized that this is her last X-Men film and she's now eXpressing her true feelings.

The costumes actually look pretty good there. Wish they translated that way on screen. Lol
