Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

It's good to not show more of the movie, that's good.
but the movie is so hype that it can "keep secret" or hide a lot?
is not a smart strategy for a film that suffers from a great distrust and with bloggers attacking every day
being a final trailer he had to leave people open-mouthed and excited to see it, show a little of the battle of new york, the villain fighting the xmen, a little of the aliens ... the tvspot was better and more exciting and This should not happen.

Those battles better deliver, they really haven't given us anything there.

*Watches the DP Final Trailer*

That's it? That's the best you've got? :o
They kinda recycled the first three trailers despite being edited better than the last three.

The trailer gave me a tv spot vibe simply because they didn't show nothing really new.

The space mission scenes look pretty good, but then its like they ran out of money for sets and costumes half way thru
Pretty much.

The final battle looks like BvS final battle. A big dark CGI mess.

Cyclops so far looks comical.

The music’s exactly the same as the international trailer’s. I hope that’s an indication that this is Zimmer’s score. It certainly sounds like his style. I’ve been told it’s at least very similar to the Phoenix theme threaded throughout the film, but it’s difficult to tell for sure due to the score having been a work in progress in that cut.

You know.. some things look cool. Then it hits me. This is not only the second time they’re attempting this story, but the second time they make her look NOTHING like the Phoenix, after having the previous film beautifully set up a comic accuracy effect. Like, X3 was the hideous black veins and dark eyes, now its this weird effect. Why can’t we get flames?
The narrative has been: “it’s Singer’s fault we had to change it to pink! The previous movie established that she had the Raptor and that was before the space mission!”
Kinberg was asked by folks at Disney to re-render & change the look of the Phoenix effect (likely so they could use it later in the MCU). It looked more like flames earlier on.
Oops. Spoke too soon. I can’t keep up with all the excu...narratives.

Isn't a CGI mess what people wanna see? because i always got that impression.

The biggest way to stop it from looking cheap would be loads of CGI that spells out we are spending money.

ive always wanted this from storm. Her channel img the lighting from the sky through her.

The movie version of Storm has always channelled lightning.

Kinberg said on that old X-Men fan site - back in the day of X3 - that he envisaged Storm channelling lightning rather than generating it. It was me who asked him the question during the Q&A. In the comics, Storm can generate her own lightning as well as control naturally occurring lightning.

The pink energy is Jean's power without Phoenix. If you read comics then the answer is obvious. Kinberg apparently knows more about X-Men comics...
He apparently knows even less about his movies. I can kinda understand if in this new timeline, Sophie as Jean’s power signature is retconned to be pink. But it’s not and it hasn’t been. Why would it be pink now? With your “it’s pink in the comics” shouldn’t the Raptor have been pink at the end of Apocalypse then? Plus she now has the Phoenix in this movie, why would you bring up “Jean’s power without Phoenix.”

Seems like you know even less about the comics AND the movies.

I agree she does it in DoFP summing down to her the shooting it at the x-jet.

I meant I always wanted to see it with her like that, one arms raised summoning and flowing into her while they other shoots it out.

Weird trailer, I thought. The music is good. Hoult/Beast finally has a bit to do/say, and I like that.

Some iffy dialogue. Xavier's 'Ladies and gentlemen of NASA' sounds horrifically pompous and cheesy and Mystique's 'We get the astronauts, we bring them home' is just stating the obvious.

The Mystique make-up looks bad. Mystique approaching Jean so closely is a poorly created set-up for the fact she is about to be hurled back.

Magneto is bad-ass but considering all he was capable of doing in X-Men Apocalypse he should be able to put up a bit more of a fight, and defend himself more easily. If he can destroy the Sydney Opera House while he's in Cairo then I expect a little more! He's about the only one who could take on Phoenix...

That was with the power boost Apocalypse gave him though.

Reading some online reaction in comment sections of twitter youtube and Facebook. Generally getting quite positive feedback. Lot of people on Facebook mentioning how "finally they are doing Phoenix force instead of split personality from X3" and similar. Interesting

They must have been permanent power boosts, or Storm's hair would have gone back to being white and she would be capable once again of little more than blowing over goods on a market stall...

Only her hair changed color. Perhaps that was a side effect specific to her. No one else had their hair color change. Why is it so far fetched to believe that they lost the main thing they got from Apocalypse when he died and a minuscule effect like the color of one's hair remained? Lol

I'm on record as wanting this to do well since I think a movie about Jean doing badly would not be great for the character and she's my favourite. The MCU will have X-men movies eventually, so the Fox films might as well end on a high note. But I have a mixed response to the trailer:

The space mission seems really well done. Like others have said, it feels like they spent all their money on these scenes and didn't have enough for the rest of the movie.

I hope Jean absorbs the force after doing something heroic to save the team like she does in the comics. It's not clear if she is just accidentally put in danger.

We have a shot of some students and they all look like normal humans. Did they forget this is a school for mutants like every other movie has forgotten?

I cannot express how much I hate that a bunch of kids nicknamed Jean the Phoenix. That's the same laziness with names that First Class had. It also rules out the entity being the Phoenix Force, which means it will probably be something generic that looks like Galactus from Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Nothing else was very impressive outside of the space mission. None of the other sets, costumes, wigs, lines, etc are particularly interesting. A lot of it seems dark and murky like Alcatraz was in X3. If the swelling of pink/purple energy is the finale, it looks really low stakes and underwhelming like X3. They could have done a million things in terms of the look and feel of the movie, but this is what we got...

I'm not convinced we'll see a fiery raptor. I might riot if we don't.

Why do you think Kinberg would even be taking into account that Magneto had a power boost the last movie? You're the one who brought up that excuse.

I mean, so far there's been zero mention of Jean unleashing the fiery bird the last movie.
