Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I wouldn't be surprised if it makes more in China then North America.
Yeah only because it would really underperform in North America.
Liking the practical effects in that helicopter scene but the background setting does look off
Well they ended being under budgeted filming in a what? like an abandoned warehouse?

It won't.
Box office expert from China thinks otherwise:
He was right on Aquaman blowing up in China too. I'm not looking forward to this film, but all signs point to an over-performance in one of the biggest markets in the world.

Dark Phoenix kind of feels like a The Last Jedi type of movie. China goes for the Godzilla type while they hated The Last Jedi. It will be interesting to watch it all unfold

This movie is gonna really hurt Godzilla 2 in China. Could be really big.

Yeah I would have said any other day that Godzilla would sweep up the Chinese box office, BUT Dark Phoenix being released in a prime holiday in China, and the huge growth in numbers, suggests it could very well be, emphasise on “could”, a huge it hit in Middle Kingdom. That’s not to say the other movies won’t share a good percentage of the BO, but having it fresh on a lucrative weekend certainly doesn’t hurt.

And I have no doubt this it going to make Apoc numbers stateside, in fact it may do a little less, there’s just too much competition.

Gavin Feng projected Detective Pikachu to open $50-60 in China. On Friday it opened to the tune of only $11.5 and is now on track to have a $41Mil opening weekend. I've previously sourced Feng when quoting Chinese Box Office projections. I'm not sure I will continue to do so (though there's not many China box office sources lol).

But basically there was a general error of the analysts with this film, almost all made false predictions about this, probably based purely on the great number of visualizations that the material of the film was receiving.

this will be great, logically all depends on whether the movie is good or not.
but assuming it's really a good movie, and looking at the whole history of the xmen franchise locally and how the box office of this kind of movie is exploding in china it's a bit safe to say that at least the $ 120,765,095 franchise record will be quickly broken in 4 days , and if this happens reaching 240-260m is virtually guaranteed.
and if the film achieves this in china is practically guaranteed that it will pass the final box office of XMA, I do not think in other countries it will fall a lot, it should have similar performance to XMA in other countries, in some a little below and in others a little above.

Just because it has female lead and Star Wars like poster? Nah. The female centric agenda isnt being forced in Dark Phoenix as it was in TLJ. There are a lot of strong male characters in Beast, Magneto, Prof X and Cyke to balance the seemingly OP female characters of Jean and "Agent Smith"

Its still compèting with the Secret Life of Pets 2 in its opening weekend. And would be buried by competition in the following weeks.

That article isn't really news to be taken with a gain of salt. its just a point of view article.

Colossus isn’t in this movie. Stop it.

Easy for you to say, after the fact lol
Hindsight is 20/20.

Colossus is in this damn movie

To finally end this colossus debate, it’s a striped shirt and can of soda in the hand of a normal student. This scene has been in the film since the first version. Besides, if it was colossus and they managed to change something further in post from what I saw, it wouldn’t be like he would pop up outside of this one scene.

The "Disney is going to bury this movie and it's never going to see the light of day!!!" squad should be a little ashamed. Disney is going all out. This is good.

Feige and Disney cannot wait to get proper versions of the X-Men and Fantastic Four on screen. No more silent Storm with more fog over her origins/background than she could ever create herself, no bad make-up Beast/Mystique, no more Mystique with a crappy actress who doesn't even want to be there, no more Galactus-cloud, no more of any of the other nonsense. Yes there have been some great moments, but i require more than moments across the span of two decades!

Disney is pushing this because the investors need their money back...

Thank God the Phoenix will rise again... in the MCU...

this is very repetitive....

You are happy with the treatment of the main/classic X-Men characters these past 20 years?

Anyone not called Xavier, Magneto, Wolverine has been crapped on. Even Mystique has in a sense been crapped on - now elevated into a role she was never meant for, mischaracterised and mishandled. So although J-Law's Mystique is in the forefront, it's not in a good way.

I suspect they can wait and probably will.

It looks like they may be set film wise until 2023. i suspect they are fairly chilled about it infact.

Mostly depends on which movie I am watching. Even the three you mentioned (Xavier, Logan and Eric) have some great moments and some moments I could not stand.

The X-Men movies have been very much a mixed bag for me. That said, I think it is a difficult franchise to do justice to. I am interested to see how Marvel Studios will approach them.
