Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Normally I'd put these in the fan art section, but they're too good not to share in here. Swipe right to see the variants.

This has been the routine for the past 3 years. There will be slight breaks when something new is released, but it’s quickly back to this shortly after.
Those 3 years could've been 2 with a good writer with a better script, a director who's not learning on the job and a producer who knows how to plan reshoots.

There would still be naysayers of course. This is still a Fox production and they don't have the best track record with geek IP. Those negative prerelease comments are just multiplied many times over because this film's writer and director wrote, among others: Apocalypse, Fant4stic and butchered this same comic book storyline the first time in X-men: The Last Stand.

Guys please learn to embrace and believe in Kinberg’s unique vision for right now. Let’s see what happens with the film first and give his virgin directorial debut the warm reception it deserves

Mostly depends on which movie I am watching. Even the three you mentioned (Xavier, Logan and Eric) have some great moments and some moments I could not stand.

The X-Men movies have been very much a mixed bag for me. That said, I think it is a difficult franchise to do justice to. I am interested to see how Marvel Studios will approach them.

The Fox versions do at least leave scope for the next iteration focusing on the classic team rather than on the founder, two villains (Mags and Mystique) and a maverick anti-hero.

In these gender/diversity conscious times I don’t expect the Original 5 to get much focus unless the casting spreads a wider net.

But in the absence of Iron Man, the MCU will need a super brainy scientist and both Beast and Reed Richards could fulfil those roles. And the overpowered Captain Marvel could be changed by a Rogue absorption attack. Black Panther could at least introduce Storm, forget the marriage bit.

I’ll be interested to see what Dark Phoenix does - and how it’s received and how it performs - but I honestly feel the franchise has run its course. It simply can’t keep up with the competition. And the great shame is the X-Men comics are the most successful but that hasn’t been translated to the screen.

It’s a great pity the X-Men and F4 didn’t get handed back to Marvel Studios at the beginning when Iron Man was being made. But at least they’re there now.

The immediate issue with Dark Phoenix is making a cosmic epic into a grounded earthbound movie. It just feels like the story has been neutered... Fingers crossed it’s at least watchable.

I will be interested in hearing other people's thoughts about the film, though I am far less interested in how it performs, since, in the overall scheme of things, it really does not matter how it performs (the franchise is going to be rebooted. It is not like it is going away; it is just transitioning.)

As for the comics, the X-Men comics sort of remind me of the X-Men movies...they were on top once, but that was a long time ago. I continue to hope they return to glory, though.

Dark Pheonix is also on Dark Phoenix

It will be interesting to see in what way the Disney label will be put in the film.

I could answer each of your points with reasons why that has nothing to do with it being delayed a year and point you to the actual reason(s) why and why reshoots were the way they were (had absolutely nothing to do with planning or any lack there of)...but something tells me that I have in fact explained these things to you and in the spirit of not being repetitive, I won’t.

So who does Daniel Cudmore play?

He’s not in this cut. Weren’t you the one trolling each and every one of my posts some months ago calling me a liar and fake? Lol

Well, blame the creative team for constantly disappointing.

The close to zero hype this movie has certainly is not the fault of SHH users expressing how they feel here.

I really think Dark Phoenix will end up being the movie I would have been happy getting as X-men 3 in 2006.

You are happy with the treatment of the main/classic X-Men characters these past 20 years?

Anyone not called Xavier, Magneto, Wolverine has been crapped on. Even Mystique has in a sense been crapped on - now elevated into a role she was never meant for, mischaracterised and mishandled. So although J-Law's Mystique is in the forefront, it's not in a good way.

That's precisely why I say it's repetitive
any "praise" for the franchise or something that involves the film is almost a sin, the person is totally wrong and must confess how can still enjoy this franchise with problems and that will have a new version in the future ...
is a pretty repetative behavior of some here, it looks like a scratchy record that has been playing the same track for months.

Well we will all have more to discuss when the film is released but you can’t expect us to all share the same opinions on it.

Some people will be here criticising things in the movie or even the entire movie. Same with every film, even the mega-successful ones.

I’ve been here years and there’s never been a universal agreement of opinion. That’s simply unrealistic.

I'm getting tired of saying this to everyone....stop the petty arguing and name calling. Discuss the movie in here or do not post in here.

It wasn't. The reason Kinberg pointed to moving this to June from February (other than...you know...that they couldn't finish it in time) was to take advantage of the additional IMAX screens that Gambit supposedly had accumulated (that the February date wouldn't have had). If this was shot with IMAX cameras, number one priority before even settling for the (even earlier) original November 2018 release date was securing the most number of IMAX screens.

Besides shooting with IMAX cameras is not a run-of-the-mill thing to do. This is Simon's directorial debut. I doubt he would want to do that right out the gate.

Do we know if the movie was filmed using IMAX cameras?
I don't think it was. However, there seems to be a big push to see the film in IMAX. I've seen the trailer in IMAX and it didn't fill up the screen.

I do have tix for an IMAX showing on the 6th. Still waiting on Dolby Cinema tix to go on sale.

If anyone is in Las Vegas there seems to be a theatre showing Dark Phoenix a week early. Might be a mistake, but I spoke to the managers about it and they seem to think it's correct.
