Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Like, wtf is this dudes schtick? It was pretty funny at first lol, but... I really cant tell if he's serious or not anymore... IS this really Simon Kinberg?

No Kinberg isn’t so grandiose.

I heard from a critic on Twitter that he heard that the conflict was messy and the third act is “awful”. Though the third act doesn’t seem too bad based the reactions to the leak of the last 10 minutes.

But this is an indicator that it’s going to get mixed reception from critics. Recently, Brightburn didn’t get press screenings in some markets.

Deadpool 2 also had its embargo lifted the same day of international release. That film was also murmured to be a terrible mess, and a disgrace to everyone involved. This could still go in any direction. As a fan of the franchise, the RT score means very little. As a film fan, RT has its value. I would honestly just like to know what we are working with.
The earliest date Deadpool 2 opened was May 15th. The reactions and social media embargo from the reviewers was lifted May 10th.

Where's the social media reactions for Dark Phoenix from the eventual reviewers that Fox has allowed? Like Captain Marvel, the Deadpool 2 situation is not comparable to Dark Phoenix. Deadpool 2's reviews were posted the Monday before release. Are we expecting the embargo to be lifted tomorrow?

I've been sitting w/ my thoughts on #DarkPhoenix for a while now. Writing about this movie is difficult b/c I've loved what this franchise has meant for those who feel different/outcast for nearly two decades. Review coming 6/5.1 am.

Writing a review for the movie is difficult... uh oh. Sounds like she didn't enjoy the film.

This doesn't look good.

Maybe she cited difficulty writing about this movie because it is the last chapter of a franchise she has loved for 20 years.
I honestly do not know what she meant by that, it can be good or bad,

I agree it ambiguous.

I can see both point of veiw.

She didn't like the film and is saddened that it the ending of a franchise she loves.

Or

She liked the film, but finding it difficult to review the film while giving her thoughts as the franchise as a whole.

yes. it's really bad sign, you can't deny it. extremely tight embargo date, they don't even allow social media reactions. and extremely small screening around the world.

Sigh.

Yeah there should be no confusion that even among those of us that are positive about the movie, we know it’s going to open #2. We’ve known since it secured this release date...

My take is that it sounds like a serviceable action movie, but in story department it is lacking so critics are not going to give glowing reviews and they know fans will be disappointed in it as an adaptation so no social reaction.

And the last film made over 800 million at the Box Office.

And I’m NOT trying to refute that! I won’t be surprised if this sequel hits in the same region (800+m). As for X men, I was quoting the fact that, there should be no surprise by now, DP opening at #2, is almost common knowledge now... the trades, bloggers, etc have all been covering this for the past few weeks.

I would to add that I think they believe the general audience will enjoy very much considering the big marketing push this is getting from the Mouse.

Which begs the question of why this movie was made and who it was made for. Fans don't want it, critics are going to tear it asunder, the general audience will be turned off on the reviews leading to poor legs.

Is the only purpose of this movie to feed Kinberg's ego? Is this whole thing one big validation vehicle for Kinberg's self esteem; proving to himself that he can make a better Dark Phoenix?

I doubt that. Marketing and audience word of mouth is what give movies their legs as shown by Venom, Aquaman, and Aladdin.

That is why Disney/Fox is putting so much effort into the marketing.

At this point I’ve cancelled out the noise.. i’ll be there with my popcorn and soda opening night, soaking it all in. I just want to enjoy the last movie, after following this franchise for the last 20 years :D

It’s felt like home, some of the best comic book movies, as well as some of the worst. It’s been a journey. I’ll miss it :(

I’ll be waiting for the new incarnation!

I m going to see it cause i love this universe, the actores, the characters and tone, that differs from any other over the top super hero movies.
I know critics wont be generous and RT will be low. My expectations are low só i can enjoy it more for what it is. If im surprised better!!!
I have the feeling the writing is what will drag the movie, and probably the third part will be more criticized!
I just want to be emotional invested and see cool stuff! Well, like everyone who go to see a movie! Dont care the small things that should not afect the whole thing!
