Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

It's not impossible and if so I have some fancasting for that, but it's kinda twisty.

Apparently it wasn't suppose to be the final film at the time it was shot, but rather part of a new trilogy.

Kinberg didn't know that at the time though (and still doesn't somehow :o ), but that doesn't change the fact that it is now the final film and doesn't make sense to do that storyline now. They really ought to change it so that it brings everything to an end and doesn't introduce new elements.

Just make it an epilogue to the First Class trilogy.

They should. Save the Skrulls for Captain Marvel.
It kind of makes the most sense for reshoots and with Marvel having what I would assume is most of the control now I can see them doing that as not to interfere with what they’ve got for Captain Marvel. Especially because both movies come out so close together.

They should of just used the Shi'ar as the aliens in the movie. They have a big history with the X-men.

We are already getting comic accurate versions of the skrulls in Captain Marvel if they are sticking to the concept art we saw.

TBH X3 is a really infuriating film, it's the only X-Film i don't like. Hell i think it's worse than Apocalypse, which i actually enjoyed on a superficial entertainment level. But i couldn't with X3. I would argue that's the only bad X-Men film, but people make it seem like there was nothing but back to back turds lol. Thats just not true, FOX had more hits than misses with the franchise.

Angel flying across the entire country to pick up his dad still annoys me.

The X-Men were outnumbered. Angel was listening in on them. Why not just have Warren join them instead of follow them from upstate New York to San Francisco?

Yeah, that was horrible. Ben Foster didnt have schedule issues, so Ratner didnt have any excuse. So lazy and stupid writting too

Another epilogue?
How many epilogues the FC needs? 10?

So redundant. But hey, this is Fox who we are talking about. They have been using the Charles-Magneto plot for 18 years, what more can we expect?

Sophie’s reshoot wig is going to be SO noticeable btw. I can’t wait for the hilarity.

Logan also made a cross country motorcycle trip in record time. I remember that the destruction was originally going to take place in NYC ala the source material but was moved west due to 9/11. And there was no reason for Kinberg to adjust the script to reflect this.

and lets not forget how Colossus just gave a damm about Rogue when Bobby asked him where is she.

once again, Kinberg showing how little the x-men care about each other. :whatever:

Why are you bragging about a movie that needs 3 months of reshoots?

That means the movie they made sucked

Jokes aside, I don't think anyone's credibly expecting them to be filming 3 months non-stop. As stated that's a whole X-men movie! Kinberg can't suck that bad can he?

Reshoot schedule is based on actor availability. Articles about reshoots aren't specifying the number of days of actual shooting, merely the scheduled time period. An example is an article about one film stating that several weeks of reshoots would take place. Later on it was shown that the actual actor involved was only available one day each week to shoot out of his schedule. That doesn't mean he was shooting for 3 or so weeks straight.

None of this is new info. We knew they were starting reshoots this month. It was also revealed a while back that 2 actors won't be available for reshoots until 2 months later. Now, common sense suggest that the span of time for reshoots would stretch around a 3 month period. I already knew this a month or so ago....just based on that information.

Wasn't your guess of 2 weeks based on The Hollywood Reporter article that quoted a $10 Million cost? No where in that article quoted 2 weeks or even just weeks (as opposed to what others suspected as months of reshoot, based on the delay of release from November to February).

Unless you have a source at the studio, that was your only reason for saying these wouldn't be "major" reshoots. IIRC, Chastain's and McAvoy's delayed reshoot schedules weren't announced by the time that article was posted.

The title of that THR article was "'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' to Get Major Reshoots as Simon Kinberg Tweaks Script."

Here's your rebuttal to the above dated July 5th:

If that same article stated the reshoots would cost less than 10 million....then the reshoots wouldn't really be major or at least not involve heavy use of VFX.

Now we have actual reports that the planned 2 weeks of filming has jumped to 3 months. Surely that $10Mil price tag is no longer the most up-to-date.

A cost of 20 million or more with two months or longer period would be major. But even a film with little to no VFX....having an under 10 million reshoot budget is normal.

So now more than $10Mil and two months or longer period (in this case three months) is still not major?

Still nothing to see here huh?

Posted in another thread. 3 months reshoot. Everything is fine!

https://www.cbr.com/x-men-dark-phoenix-re-shoots-3-months/

this is just normal in Hollywood, Fox knows what they are doing, if they can improve the movie, they will. They know this property very well. And reshoots wont be expensive, its just a few days divided for schedule reasons, as I read (in my mind). Everything is fine.

Its "business as usual"

WHO on this planet really believes all of this?????

Exclusive: No, ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ Is Not Undergoing Three Months of Reshoots

http://collider.com/x-men-dark-phoenix-reshoots-explained

Contrary to reports, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is not going back in for an extensive round of reshoots, we at Collider can confirm. Earlier this year, the X-Men sequel was pulled off of its November 2018 release date and pushed to February 2019. After test screenings, it was determined the film needed some additional photography (as is routine when it comes to studio blockbusters), but owing to the busy schedules of the A-list cast, the production couldn’t assemble everyone in time to meet the November release date, so the date was pushed.

Now that the additional photography on Dark Phoenix is poised to take place later this year, Montreal outlet LaPresse reported that the film would be undergoing “three months” of photography, which would suggest extensive changes to longtime X-Men writer/producer Simon Kinberg’s directorial debut. Sources close to the production of Dark Phoenix tell Collider that this report is erroneous. The film is indeed going back for additional photography in Montreal, but it’s only scheduled to last two and a half weeks. That’s a pretty standard amount of time for a major blockbuster, and is on par with the time spent on additional photography for Marvel Studios movies like Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther.

Our sources tell us that the additional photography will involve some additional action in the film’s third act, a couple of new scenes, and adding some shots for existing scenes. So no, contrary to rumors, this is not a major overhaul. Kinberg wrote and directed Dark Phoenix, which serves as a follow-up to X-Men: Apocalypse but takes place a decade later in the 1990s. The story is under wraps aside from the obvious fact that it’s drawing from the iconic Dark Phoenix comics arc, which will find Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey taking center stage and Jessica Chastain playing a new key role.

It’s unclear which actors, exactly, are involved in the additional photography, but both Chastain and James McAvoy are currently in the midst of shooting IT Chapter Two and Turner only recently wrapped the final season of Game of Thrones, so those three actors playing major characters have been/are tied up for quite some time.

The necessary cast members will reassemble soon in Montreal for a couple weeks of additional photography, but no, they’re not reshooting the entire film.

Ok good.

Now Collider should clarify why La Presse reported that the reshoots jumped from 2 weeks to 3 months. And that they're moving from MELS studio to MTL Grandé studios.

Or are both still happening?

how convenient that Collider got a reply from their sources this fast, when the 3 months of rehoots was basically posted one hour ago at best.

Did their source call them the second after seeing the JamesMcavoy fanaccount tweet or what? :funny: :funny:

I see a lot of "studio style" on their article. Interesting coincidence or personal interests of Collider.

:sly:
