Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I've watched the trailer three times now and each time I feel really unsettled (which is a good thing).

Chastain's character is so mysterious. That twist with Chastain's character could either work or throw off the momentum of the movie.

- Is that young Hope Mikaelson playing the young Jean Grey?

- I guess they omitted the Russian trailer ending to avoid comparisons to Captain Marvel.

- Genosha looks cheap, like Septon Ray's sept.

- So the X-Men and the Brotherhood are out to stop Jean but disagree on how to do it, meanwhile Smith is on the sidelines fanning the flames while getting her real plan in motion.

- The trailer feels reactionary, like they cut a different one to distinguish itself from the leak. I preferred the music and imagery of the Russian one.

I fear we're going to end up with another Reboot Khan/Blofeld situation where they try to play cute with a character's identity and just end creating an unnecessary distraction.

That was such a glorious trailer. Honestly, probably the best debut trailer for any x-men film other than Logan. Cinematography is on point.

Didn't expect this shot to appear on the first trailer...

Bye bye, Jen.

According to IGN, the new characters with Magneto are

Red Lotus and Selene

Digging.

It.

Big-time.

:word: :applaudTone's all on-point, it looks like it's going to have some nice substance to it all. Bravo, Simon, lookin' sweet so far.

Gah, much as I like the MCU I'm just getting so sick of that sterile greenscreen-backgrounds-everywhere look to them, really appreciate the more deliberate shoot-real-places-if-it's-at-all-possible approach in the "grittier" examples of the Fox stuff, Singer/Mangold flicks.

Was watching Ang Lee's Hulk the other night for the first time in a while, got the same feeling. I don't know, maybe it's just nostalgia, or I'm a visual snob or whatever, but movies used to look so much better. And bigger. Few-and-far-between as the action sequences are in that flick, they're just so thrilling & spacious and well-constructed, don't feel like spectacle for the **** of it. That's what I appreciate about Singer's X-flicks too (guess Apocalypse aside, they really leaned into the CG-fest there).

Glad this hit online so quickly too, no way was I going to sit through Chubby-Unfunny-Limey-Jimmy-Fallon even for an X-Men trailer. :argh: Eat it, Corden.

How? Those characters appeared before in iconic movies.

Her character is brand new to audience.

I think the reshoots definitely were to give a proper send off for the franchise and tie up loose ends. Plus, I think after the climax of the park confrontation Chastain's part in the movie will probably prove to be critical how the film finishes in the final act.

It looks like everyone is acting their heart out in this movie.

I hope she's not a made up villain ..

Deathbird seems a bit lame but her backstory could be she is trying to take the Shi'Ar throne so she wants this power to do it, Cassandra Nova would be the best choice for an alien villain.

I wonder if they actually had planned to do the Dark Phoenix saga in two movies, or at least give the characters consequences to be explored on a next movie (Kinberg stated he wanted to start a new trilogy with Dark Phoenix), so probably the re-shoots was not because of the poor reception from the test audience, but to wrap up the Foxverse.

To do it properly it should be a two separate films with Phoenix and Dark Phoenix. But yeah it seems that they are tying up loose ends so no cliff hangers are left as there is no next movie to tie up loose ends.

I'm talking about the creative team trying to mystery box those respective character's identities throughout their productions, resulting in reveals that's underwhelming, unnecessary, and distracting.

Oh. Chastain is Lilandra? "No"
Oh. Chastain is Emma? "No"
Oh. Chastain is Mastermind? "No"
Oh. Chastain is the Phoenix Force? "No"
Oh. Chastain is Agent Smith? "No"

loool

Would have been nice to see some more action but like others have said if it follows the same path as DOFP the next trailer will be heavier on that.

As teasers go I thought it was good!
