Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

She already made her mind up of taking the cure, before it could have been destroyed by Magnetos squad

I like TLS, but not what they did to Rogue, especially when you take into consideration her role with Bobby's "coming out" in X2. The growth the character had, and could have had, thrown away. I think the Rogue that supported Bobby in X2 wouldn't have taken the cure.

What that is verry funny (and sad at the same time) is that we are not comparing the characters' writing to Tarkovskij, but to the Avengers' ones that are at American Pie level.

We have a Spidey that is a superhero version of the dumb son of Family Guy,
Cap that choose a friend over higher ideals.
And all characters act and speak with slogan like a politician look for votes.
(I rewatched IW right now, and Endgame will start in few minutes...)

That is the Disney level.

Agree, I was just taking what happened in the movie and giving some rationale behind it.

From what I remember they did shoot a alternate ending where she doesnt take the cure. Probably would have been better for her character and a wider social message to send

Beast-Raven is not a romance or a relationship. The two are barely colleagues. And the fact that Kinberg and company have been walking back the "mutant and proud!" speech due to Ms. Lawrence's distaste for the makeup chair showed that MYSTIQUE THE ULTIMATE MUTANT didn't believe one whit the crap she was spouting.

There are no hard and fast rules for a relationship between two people, only degrees of relationships. They clearly shared some formative experiences and conversations. They have a relationship.

So wait, they walked back the "mutant and proud" declaration by having her become a mutant activist and freedom fighter, and seeking to protect and teach mutants?

She can be proud of being a mutant and still value her ability to change forms, including the form she was comfortable with for years and years before she met Magneto. Magneto liking the way Mystique looks as a mutant more than he likes the way she looks as a human doesn't mean that Mystique herself has to only like that form, or reject her "human" form entirely.

I don't see the point in harping on the real world reasons that writing decisions occur when assessing an actual writing decision. The writing decisions still have weight on their own.

Nor do I see the point in comparing everything in FOX's mythology to Disney, DC, or anything else for that matter.

Anything can be compared to anything, and as such, anything can eventually be found lacking when compared to something of higher quality somewhere out there. If we can't discuss things on their own merits, what's the point of discussing them in the first place?

Woah Jessica Chastain is in this? LOL

Edit: It says "Everything is Ending" on the side.
"Phoenix Rises. End of X-men." on the bottom.

Love Sophie's hair there. The most ''Jean Gre-ish' pic of her in her two movies.

About the poster itself, a big Lol at the composition and overall vibe/look of random faces/chsrscters put together in 1 min. Total lack of creativity, in terms of design/Art and iconic superhero team. The poster just lacks that iconic vibe of most X-Men covers in their +50 years.
Marketing team should know better by now

Lord that poster reminds me how horrible that uniform is. They really should’ve stuck to the ones from the last Apoclaypse scene.
I love it personally, although I do really like the ones at the end of Apocalypse as well. However, the uniform is Dark Phoenix is just a nice streamlined look.

And apologies if I sounded like I was sniping. Wasn't my intent. Just happened to disagree on that point. Love your input.

And I believe you're correct on the second point. And agree.

They're essentially the leather costumes from the OT--made of a different material--but not black.

We're back to 2011 with First Class' costumes but without the individuality.

I don't know if It was said, but before Endgame in Italy there were 2 X-Men trailer.
The second One and a newer One with different scenes from all X-Men movies and some new scenes of DP (nothing wow)

That's weird. Do they normally show 2 trailers for the same film in Italy?

The First Class suits were a lot nicer than what we got in this movie. They weren't perfect but appreciated the attempt at the classic look. These look like loose-fitting pajamas that you'd find at a slumber party. Just terrible

Interesting! I have a feeling this trailer will be the one that will be shown for foreign audiences, the new “international” trailer. Which means I’m likely to see that one in front of Endgame tomorrow night.

What scenes from the old films are shown??

I wish they were black rather than blue, and the X was thinner and slicker. The concept is great, the execution is not the nicest. These should have been flight suits, and they kept the individual ones from apocalypse (upgrade/wartorn a bit) for another scene.

Some scenes for almost every characters (eg. Storm in X1 final Battle, Wolverine at the X2 mansion Battle, words from Charles and Erik, Jean in Apocalypse).

Without spoilers, a word about Endgame: i find it good, but if its use of characters or it's internal mistake of continuity were made by Fox, this thread would be full of anger post by mcu's supporters.

1- The movie is perfect the way it is. Hank's character arc ended in DOFP. He's using his human form in "Apocalypse" as cover-up. He's Xavier's main man and the only X-Man left. He is Xavier's biggest "agent" at this point.
I think that they spent the first years (1973-1977 or so) in rebuilding a reputation for the school, improving the tech (Cerebro, the Blackbird) and so on.

And by the way, Hank loves Mystique, despite it not being a romance or a relationship. It's proper and legit storytelling.

2- Havok and many other students (X-Men?) departed to join the Vietnam War. Years later the events of "First Class" (1962). That's pretty much hinted in DOFP.
Technically, Havok, Banshee and Beast had been X-Men for 3 years or more, and had some missions anyway.

1. We have vastly different standards of perfection. Hank loves Mystique despite barely knowing her or interacting with her over a 20 year period, and despite differences of ideology so profound that they separated entirely weeks after meeting. Could be 'legit' storytelling, could be a series that regularly jumps ahead decades at a time and severely limited Hank's life and social circle as a consequence.

2. There's the word "hinted" again. I agree Havok very likely left the school due to being drafted by the US army. This could have been as early as 1964 to my knowledge. There's a ton that could have been done with Havok, but alas.

I haven't seen it but ive read the spoilers. I don't mind the use of the characters but I'm shocked with regards to what they have done to continuity.
Especially since the MCU has been praised for maintain a strict canon, often a critique of the X-men films.

Honestly should have been the final trailer they released. Pull on those good ol’ heart strings. I’m glad their finally able to acknowledge it as the final chapter, and use that nostalgia effect in the marketing. Fingers crossed it’s the one I see tomorrow night.

You’re Endgame point: I’m really excited, and your not the only one I’ve seen say there’s a few continuity issues. That said I can’t take away from it’s recption from critics and those lucky enough to see. I hope and wish the same for the X men under MCU.

It was not a great use of nostalgia effect to be honest. Maybe cause they pick scenes that weren't the most iconic or important.

I have to say that i don't like any trailer in particolare. Great space scene, great jean-erik part but all trailer end are so weak.

From what I know on the film, there holding back a lot on the action sequences, in particular the NY battle/final act. The story is pretty much their in the trailers, I’m just confused as to why there holding back on shots that ‘could’ turn the tide on the conversation/negativity, instead of relying of the same ones with better vfx. And I’m kind of the same with the trailers. The international trailer is definitely my favourite.

Hot take: The Russian trailer is the best of the lot :hehe:
