They should have used the next film after Apocalypse to give us a better Phoenix. You can't do that if you dive straight into Dark Phoenix. We need to care a lot more about the character before that happens. Plus the reactions from the other X-Men won't mean as much when we don't know them as well yet.

I see your point. Its all about writing I guess. I cared a lot about that mute girl from Logan by the end of that film, so anything is possible.
