:trans: Cmill's Week 5 Power Rankings: :trans:

1.) Patriots (5-0, same): They've scored at least 34 points in all five of their wins. Now they get their biggest test yet in the also undefeated Cowboys.

2.) Colts (5-0, same): Even without half of their roster, the Colts looked dominant against a solid Tampa Bay club. A bye week will do them some good as they prepare for a strong stretch run.

3.) Cowboys (5-0, same): Tony Romo turned the ball over 6 times on Monday night. And yet, Dallas still managed to win the game. Now the 'Boys will have to turn it around quickly on a short week to prepare for the Patriots at home.

4.) Steelers (4-1, same): They looked dominant against Seattle, and bounced back well after a tough loss against Arizona. Whether or not they can hang with the Colts and Patriots will be interesting to watch as the season progresses.

5.) Packers (4-1, same): That was a difficult loss to swallow at home against Chicago, but the offense showed glimpses of an actual rushing attack. They remain a team to contend with in the NFC, despite the division loss.

6.) Jaguars (3-1, + 3): The Jaguars do two things well: they run the ball and they stop the run. The age old keys to football success.

7.) Titans (3-1, + 1): Vince Young continues to do one thing: win football games. That was a close call against a weak Falcons team at home, but now they have an opportunity to make a statement in Tampa, where the Bucs are undefeated at home through two games.

8.) Redskins (3-1, + 4): The Redskins defense looked stout against a high-powered Detroit attack. A big test awaits this club against the Packers, in what should be a key NFC match.

9.) Seahawks (3-2, - 3): Losing Deion Branch for two weeks, and Matt Strong for his career, hurts this club. The Cardinals now present them a challenge in the NFC West.

10.) Buccaneers (3-2, - 3): Losing to the Colts at home is never a shocking result for anyone, but this team's lack of depth at running back is troubling. The NFC South is barren, but they'll need a healthy ball carrier to pull it out.

11.) Ravens (3-2, + 2): The offense is going nowhere (9 points against the 49ers), which means the defense must once again play lights out every week for this team to compete.

12.) Giants (3-2, + 7): Three straight wins have pulled this team back into the NFC East picture.

13.) Cardinals (3-2, + 3): Kurt Warner now takes over full time with Matt Leinart done for the season. The Cardinals find themselves tied for the NFC West lead.

14.) Panthers (3-2, same): The quarterback situation is a mess with Jake Delhomme out for the year, but the defense looked improved at New Orleans.

15.) Texans (3-2, same): A win is a win, but struggling to beat Miami at home isn't a noteworthy achievement. This team has to get its receiving corps together.

16.) Raiders (2-2, + 1): The Raiders sit alone atop the AFC West after five weeks and will look to justify their current position against San Diego.

17.) Lions (3-2, - 7): One week, the Lions look like world beaters. The next? They're getting beat by 31. This team is redefining inconsistency.

18.) Broncos (2-3, - 7): An embarrassing loss at home against San Diego brings up a lot of questions regarding this team's chances of doing anything in the AFC.

19.) Chargers (2-3, + 2): That was a season saving win in Denver. But to get back to .500, they'll have to get past a confident Raider team.

20.) Browns (2-3, - 2): They put up a fight against New England, which most teams this season can't say they did. The Browns are playing respectable football right now.

21.) Bears (2-3, + 3): Like the Chargers, the Bears picked up a season saving win in Green Bay. The defense has to get healthy if they want to compete in the NFC.

22.) Chiefs (2-3, - 2): The Brodie Croyle era looks set to begin in Kansas City. The AFC West remains ripe for the picking if they can pull it together.

23.) Eagles (1-3, - 1): Hopefully, the Eagles used the bye week to solve their pass protection problems. A healthy Brian Westbrook should help.

24.) 49ers (2-3, - 1): Alex Smith and Vernon Davis look set to return for the Niners. With those two healthy, this team could still fight for the NFC West crown.

25.) Bengals (1-3, same): Did the bye week cure all ills? We'll see on Sunday.

26.) Jets (1-4, same): They fell apart against the Giants, which puts Chad Pennington clearly on the hot seat.

27.) Vikings (1-3, + 1): Adrian Peterson has clearly made an impact as a rookie. Now if only the Vikings gave him the ball more.

28.) Falcons (1-4, + 1): They kept it close in Tennessee, but Joey Harrington's costly interception for a touchdown kept them in the bottom barrel.

29.) Saints (0-4, - 2): Apparently the bye week did nothing to change the fact that this is bad football team right now. Did someone replace Drew Brees with Aaron Brooks?

30.) Bills (1-4, same): The Bills forced 6 turnovers against the Cowboys, yet only managed to score 3 offensive points. That's why they're 1-4.

31.) Rams (0-5, same): Look on the bright side, Rams fans: your team will win a game...eventually.

32.) Dolphins (0-5, same): With Trent Green out, Cleo Lemon steps in as the starter. Now the question is, how long before he gives way to John Beck?

Panthers QB Carr misses second straight practice; Testaverde on deck

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Carolina Panthers quarterback David Carr missed practice for a second straight day Thursday with a sore back, increasing the chances 43-year-old Vinny Testaverde could start on Sunday at Arizona.

Testaverde, signed on Wednesday, and undrafted rookie Matt Moore, signed just over a month ago, took all the snaps in practice for the banged-up Panthers. Coach John Fox wouldn't say which QB he'd use if Carr can't play Sunday.

Carr became Carolina's No. 1 quarterback when Jake Delhomme left a win over Atlanta on Sept. 23 with a right elbow injury. Delhomme has since decided to undergo season-ending surgery.

Carr was injured when his back bent ackwardly when he was sacked by Will Smith in the second quarter of Sunday's game at New Orleans.

He was carted into the locker room and replaced by Moore, who threw a 43-yard pass to Keary Colbert in a drive that produced a field goal.

Carr, after receiving treatment and taking several pain pills, returned in the second half against the Saints. He threw a touchdown pass to Steve Smith in Carolina's come-from-behind win.

But Carr has been able to do little since. He said Wednesday he's been receiving around-the-clock treatment. He watched Thursday's practice while wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

Fox wouldn't say whether he expected Carr to practice Friday.

"I was hopeful he would today, but he did not," Fox said. "We'll see what happens."

Testaverde went through his second practice with the Panthers on Thursday as he scrambles to learn the offense and get acclimated with Smith, Carolina's top receiver.

Testaverde, who turns 44 next month, was cut by New England in the preseason, Entering his 21st NFL season, Testaverde has impressed his new teammates with his arm strength and how quickly he's picked up the offense.

"He's got some familiarity with the system we've run and the coaches we have here," Fox said. "Hopefully he's a quick study. I think he is and he's shown that ability just in the last two days."

Moore, who played at Oregon State, was signed in September after being one of Dallas' final cuts before the regular season. It's uncertain how much confidence the coaching staff has in him to start.

The Panthers also lost Brett Basanez, projected to be the No. 3 QB, to a season-ending wrist injury in the preseason.

Brodie's time isn't here just yet. Huard's still starting. That shoulder problem wasn't as bad as they thought.

Say goodbye to the Panthers' season.

Vinny might be able to...aahahahahahahah...sorry, couldn't even finish that thought....

NFC South is ass-crack. You cant exactly put the kibosh in Carolina just yet even though they aren't particularly good.

Romo vs Brady...hmm..let's see.......Romo, who prett much relies his contract on his O-Line, whilst Brady has won 3 superbowls and he aint even 30.
Brady is going to be a hall of famer (kinda obvios) IMO.

it'll be a good game, but the patriots will come out on top. Moss, Vrabel....Brady...and that guy is now back on the Pats (forget his name).....so i think Pats are gonna win.

Pats/Boys aint gonna be as close as everybody thinking. I'm seeing a 14 point differential in New England's favor

If Dallas wins it will be fairly close (3 to 7 points). If NE wins it'll be probably a 10-14 gap.

I see a lot of movement up and down the field...but not a ton of scoring....something like 21-17...considering the current line is 4.5....I see it being a field goal or less...

Pats have the D. They're gonna stay perfect.
