Cmill's Week 5 Power Rankings:
.) Patriots (5-0, same): They've scored at least 34 points in all five of their wins. Now they get their biggest test yet in the also undefeated Cowboys.
.) Colts (5-0, same): Even without half of their roster, the Colts looked dominant against a solid Tampa Bay club. A bye week will do them some good as they prepare for a strong stretch run.
.) Cowboys (5-0, same): Tony Romo turned the ball over 6 times on Monday night. And yet, Dallas still managed to win the game. Now the 'Boys will have to turn it around quickly on a short week to prepare for the Patriots at home.
.) Steelers (4-1, same): They looked dominant against Seattle, and bounced back well after a tough loss against Arizona. Whether or not they can hang with the Colts and Patriots will be interesting to watch as the season progresses.
.) Packers (4-1, same): That was a difficult loss to swallow at home against Chicago, but the offense showed glimpses of an actual rushing attack. They remain a team to contend with in the NFC, despite the division loss.
.) Jaguars (3-1, + 3): The Jaguars do two things well: they run the ball and they stop the run. The age old keys to football success.
.) Titans (3-1, + 1): Vince Young continues to do one thing: win football games. That was a close call against a weak Falcons team at home, but now they have an opportunity to make a statement in Tampa, where the Bucs are undefeated at home through two games.
.) Redskins (3-1, + 4): The Redskins defense looked stout against a high-powered Detroit attack. A big test awaits this club against the Packers, in what should be a key NFC match.
.) Seahawks (3-2, - 3): Losing Deion Branch for two weeks, and Matt Strong for his career, hurts this club. The Cardinals now present them a challenge in the NFC West.
.) Buccaneers (3-2, - 3): Losing to the Colts at home is never a shocking result for anyone, but this team's lack of depth at running back is troubling. The NFC South is barren, but they'll need a healthy ball carrier to pull it out.
.) Ravens (3-2, + 2): The offense is going nowhere (9 points against the 49ers), which means the defense must once again play lights out every week for this team to compete.
.) Giants (3-2, + 7): Three straight wins have pulled this team back into the NFC East picture.
.) Cardinals (3-2, + 3): Kurt Warner now takes over full time with Matt Leinart done for the season. The Cardinals find themselves tied for the NFC West lead.
.) Panthers (3-2, same): The quarterback situation is a mess with Jake Delhomme out for the year, but the defense looked improved at New Orleans.
.) Texans (3-2, same): A win is a win, but struggling to beat Miami at home isn't a noteworthy achievement. This team has to get its receiving corps together.
.) Raiders (2-2, + 1): The Raiders sit alone atop the AFC West after five weeks and will look to justify their current position against San Diego.
.) Lions (3-2, - 7): One week, the Lions look like world beaters. The next? They're getting beat by 31. This team is redefining inconsistency.
.) Broncos (2-3, - 7): An embarrassing loss at home against San Diego brings up a lot of questions regarding this team's chances of doing anything in the AFC.
.) Chargers (2-3, + 2): That was a season saving win in Denver. But to get back to .500, they'll have to get past a confident Raider team.
.) Browns (2-3, - 2): They put up a fight against New England, which most teams this season can't say they did. The Browns are playing respectable football right now.
.) Bears (2-3, + 3): Like the Chargers, the Bears picked up a season saving win in Green Bay. The defense has to get healthy if they want to compete in the NFC.
.) Chiefs (2-3, - 2): The Brodie Croyle era looks set to begin in Kansas City. The AFC West remains ripe for the picking if they can pull it together.
.) Eagles (1-3, - 1): Hopefully, the Eagles used the bye week to solve their pass protection problems. A healthy Brian Westbrook should help.
.) 49ers (2-3, - 1): Alex Smith and Vernon Davis look set to return for the Niners. With those two healthy, this team could still fight for the NFC West crown.
.) Bengals (1-3, same): Did the bye week cure all ills? We'll see on Sunday.
.) Jets (1-4, same): They fell apart against the Giants, which puts Chad Pennington clearly on the hot seat.
.) Vikings (1-3, + 1): Adrian Peterson has clearly made an impact as a rookie. Now if only the Vikings gave him the ball more.
.) Falcons (1-4, + 1): They kept it close in Tennessee, but Joey Harrington's costly interception for a touchdown kept them in the bottom barrel.
.) Saints (0-4, - 2): Apparently the bye week did nothing to change the fact that this is bad football team right now. Did someone replace Drew Brees with Aaron Brooks?
.) Bills (1-4, same): The Bills forced 6 turnovers against the Cowboys, yet only managed to score 3 offensive points. That's why they're 1-4.
.) Rams (0-5, same): Look on the bright side, Rams fans: your team will win a game...eventually.
.) Dolphins (0-5, same): With Trent Green out, Cleo Lemon steps in as the starter. Now the question is, how long before he gives way to John Beck?
