9.09 - Pandora - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I still agree that her story will be explained later in the season, along with a few other unanswered questions from Pandora and Savior.

Something doesn't make sense to me. Clark loses his powers under the red and that's expected but how does the Kandorians get powers? At the end when the yellow sun is back Zod loses his powers and yet the hot chick Kandorian still has her powers? Then when Lois was fighting her on the train she had a little bit of trouble? How does a superhuman assassin fail at killing a mere human?

If you just check the last few pages, you will see all the answers to those questions, but I'll break it down for you.
The Blue-K infused with the Kandorians DNA, caused a reverse effect with the yellow sun. As in it did not give them powers, but the red sun does.

Alia is a source of controversy. Some think that her having powers under the yellow sun was a plothole, some (like myself) think it will be answered in the remaining episodes.

She was not trying to kill Lois, she was trying to draw out Clark. She says as much during Savior. So she was not using the full extent of her power against Lois.

I don't like the idea of the red sun giving the Kandorians powers. But I guess it's not the first time they made up their own mythology.

If blue K gives them power under a red sun why don't they use it back on Krypton when it was needed?

Pieces of Krypton became radioactive when the planet exploded and we get kryptonite. So how does Jor El manage to get the blue K? Is the core of the planet radioactive pieces to begin with or did he made it radioactive with science?

we know that GK is the radioactive remains of krypton... we don't know about the other kryptonites. Maybe they were naturally occuring etc? I'm not arguing in any direction, just pointing out.

we will just have to wait and see if the whole alia thing and what else is going to be talked about the solar towers in the rest of the season.

These aren't real Kandorians though. They are clones. Their DNA has been altered, secretly by Jor-El, with Blue-K. Jor-El is a scientist. A very smart one at that. If he could create the cloning technology, I'm pretty sure he could replicate Blue-K or at least a substance that creates the same effect.

Assumption:
Jor-El was against the cloning in the first place and I'm sure he would be against using cloned Kryptonians with Blue-K on Krypton. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

OMG. What`s so hard to understand? it is said in the episode that the tower turns the Sun red to depower Clark. However, it also stores the energy of the Yellow sun so the Kandorians can power up over there. This explains why Clark won over Zod ( Who said he didn`t have his powers? He was just weaker than Clark) and why Alia still had powers when she supersped..

The Real Question Here: Did Clark make Lois call him Superman during sex or just simply "The Blur"?

Nope. The solar tower collects solar energy and beams it up to LuthorCorp satellites, and then provides red sun energy to power the Kandorians.

I was just watching the episode, actually, I like it less and less every time I see it, but Chloe said:

"The towers are the key to Kandorian's power. They collect all of the sun's radiation, turn it red and beam it back up to the Luthorcorp satellites."

Then Oliver said, "Those satellites take the radiation and beam it back down to earth, giving all of those alien SOB's all their superhuman strength. Now, we take the tower down, we shut them down."

It's the red sunlight giving them the power...

FYI

yea zod and company must have figured out some process of altering the solar radiation would give them powers. Plus they knew it would then knock out kal-el's power so it was a added bonus for them. Plus for all we know more info on the towers could be explained. Heck we will probably have to see some contruction starting up on the towers within the next few episodes.

Still, Alia would still have the powers because its a solar battery and Zod would still have a bit of the power but he would be weaker than Clark. That`s why he lost the fight.

The only plot hole i see is that Zod should still feel the effect of Kryptonite even without his powers. They are still kryptonians so actually he would feel much more the effects because he didn`t have the powers to compensate or make it easier to handle.

OMG Dan, where did you get this recharge in the building idea??????? It is not said in the episode.

dude, what are you talking about? Red sunlight neutralizes all kryptonian powers. And in this context, Yellow sunlight does the opposite to Kandorians. It is not a matter of depleting the solar storage contained within kryptonians. The red sun makes that battery unuseable. It's still there, but it's useless. Red Sunlight has the same effect as kryptonite, just without the physically harmful effects.

The battery concept has nothing to do with RedSun. The battery concept is used to explain why when far from earth (not in red sun) that Kryptonian powers persist, why superman 'died' and came back to life...

well we will all just have to see if more info about the kandorians grab for power will be explained during the next 13 episodes.

I wasnt too crazy about Pandora the first time I watched it, however last night I watched Pandora and Savior back to back and both episodes really complement each other. There are answers within Savior that help with the viewing of Pandora and vice versa.

Interestingly too, my iTunes copy of Savior had the same video problems that the first downloaded copy of Pandora had. I remember at the time I thought it was a problem with the TV, now....I know differently.

I have to say I was very underwhelmed by this episode. There some nice moments throughout, but there also some poor exceution and sloppy handling of this story. Not to mention some plotholes and weird developments:

The Good:

The special effects-The visuals in this episode was awesome from that Kandorian landing in front of Lois to that army of Kandorians flying at Oliver. Really great job for the SFX crew!!

Clark so upfront about wanting to date Lois-That was a great scene and who knew Clark would be the one to be so blunt and make a move like that. I glad that Lois was worried because she got the dating thing so wrong in the past, but Clark's line about leaning on him for strength was touching. The holding hands while the elevator doors shut was a perfect ending to that scene.

Lois-Erica Durance was great throughout and gave another strong performance. You were really convinced how overwhelmed and scared Lois was in this horrific future.

Kneel before Kal-El-Wasn't expecting that...:wow:

The Bad:

The abrupt opening-So Clark with all of his pwoers, steps out of a room and Lois gets kidnapped without anyone else knowing...huh?

Not enough Zod-I would have loved to have seen more of this now General Zod/evil dictator of the future.

Poor use of Clark-I felt there wasn't a strong characterization of Clark in the future. Chloe was leading the resistance in the future and in the present, Chloe was proving him wrong again when he was right about her keeping secrets. Yeah, we got those Clois moments, but not enough of the heroic Clark we've been getting this season.

The Clois love scene-I think all the teasing was better than the final product. It didn't help how they edited the sex scene as well.

Chloe-Boy...where do I begin! Her line about "we'll work on your apology later" was another indication of how full of herself Chloe is now. She once again risks the life of her "supposed" best friend and cousin just to get information about the future. Her future self...even worse! She has a virus that could have taken out the solar towers months ago but didn't do it because she didn't trust Clark...the only person who could save the world with his powers!!!? The only good thing Chloe did in this episode was die!

Tess-So let me get this straight Tess, you though Zod enslaving humanity was saving the world?!

To top it all off she shot Stiart point blank and he...lived? The only good thing Tess did in this episode was get slapped by Lois and man handled by Clark...again!

Tess' death scene-Felt forced and why would Oliver be that upset even if they had history?

Alia-Biggest plot device character since Grant Gabriel. yeah, we know how she got the watch but how did she still have her powers when the solar towers went off? Why did she say sorry to Clark in the past when in the future, they barely have conversation with each other? Besides killing Chloe (:yay:), she...was...just...there...

Last and the most frustrating...

Clark "befriending" Zod-Now, has Clark learned anything from last year (Davis!) Befriending or trying to save the villain only makes things worse. I'm not saying Clark should kill Zod and Kandorians but befriending a monster like Zod is plain stupidity. I really hope the writers have a solid plan for this development because the Zod/Kandorian arc just derailed from how interesting it has been so far.

Anyway, a decent episode, just a weak mid-season finale. I give it a 7/10 for the awesome visuals and Clois finally becoming a couple. "Bride' left me wanting more after it was over, "Pandora" just left me feeling...underwhelmed and empty. Hope the second half makes up for this. Oh and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!:woot:

nice review tempest. I thought the episode was pretty good myself. I agree the way chloe is being handled this season is a bit off/odd. But i think the whole big brother thing she is doing is going to be a bigger effect in second half. More so if she ends up being involved with waller. Tess i agree was stupid in present day shooting stuart. You think once clark went out from the kryptonite she would have finished the job with stuart and not leave him and all that. As for her death in the future i agree how does zod taking over the earth really save it??? As for ollie's feelings to her well they have had that on and off relationship. and probably different things happened in the year we didnt see and all that. As for the virus thing from watchtower, i was thinking they probably did have it ready to go but just were not able to get into watchtower to upload it. Or they wanted to get a bigger rebellion going before using it. As for alia there is many theories we all have. 1 maybe she always had powers and lets say she could have worked with jorel and that is why he left her with powers. 2 maybe the legion ring's transport altered her a bit and she was able to keep powers. 3. What ever was the whole cause with the towers and solar radiations in the future, she was able to keep power charge for a bit. I dont think the whole alia/towers thing is much of a plothole when we got 13(well probably 11 not counting jsa movie) where the towers and zod power grab gets explained more. As for clark's actions at the end i dont think its a wrong move myself. I think he is going keep your friends close and your enemies closer deal. So he can take out zod from the inside out and stop the towers from even being built in the first place.

I still say this was my favorite episode of the season so far. :o
