Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - 3x13 - "Parting Shot" - Discussion Thread

Couldn't Bobbi technically become Mockingbird in the MCU now?

Not a great episode. Bit of a clunker compared to the rest of the season. That parting scene was seriously heavy on the cheese.

Yeah the parting scene was kinda cheesey but that was like the only good part of the episode for me. Like Adrianne looked really sad and for me, she really had good chemistry with Henry Simmons unlike the actor that they hired as her husband and this show really lacks chemistry with the cast and thats like the only two cast members that had a strong chemistry between each other. Not interested with Powers Boothe's daughter.... why did they even show her in a post-end-logo scene?

And I don't get why they have to leave the show... though I could see them returning once that Most Wanted pilot isn't picked up by ABC once again.

It would be hard since the president did say they'd never work for the government again, but I'm sure it could be worked out somehow if they need to come back.

I hope Most Wanted takes off though. Should be interesting to see where they go with it.

I just think the Most Wanted show would hinder Shield's rating once it returns after its season break especially if the new show is not good. So if I were the head of ABC, I would order the Marvel folks to focus on Shield and put all their efforts in just 1 show instead of dividing their attention between Shield and another ABC Marvel Show.

Well you don't know what focus they're going to take with it. It might be used to address a demographic that AoS is not currently targetting.
It might also be used to bridge the mid season breaks, like Agent Carter has been doing.
There's not reason right now to believe Most Wanted would hurt AoS.

I get the idea that they want Most Wanted to be the bridge during the mid season break. However given how Agent Carter performed this season in the ratings, I just don't see what improvement would do Most Wanted in terms of ratings. And AOS already hit 1.0 and IMO, it will get worse next season.

I agree it's a risk. I just don't think whatever shortcomings Agent Carter had with S2 had to do with Marvel TV spreading themselves thin, because they have more than one show.
It was because of decisions that the Agent Carter team made, and in my opinion it didn't affect AoS at all.
Most Wanted might fail, and if it does terrible it might damage confidence on the Marvel brand, which is what I think you'e getting at.
But what is the alternative? They have to either try to diversify or stay stagnant.

IMO, Agent Carter did affect AOS, because they are two Marvel shows that are connected to each other and both share the same timeslot. And AOS just hit series low last week, don't tell me thats just coincidence. And I just don't see the potential of having a spin-off show with Mockingbird and her husband as the lead characters of the show.

My guess is that there were promises made to Ms. Palicki that if she signed on as Bobbi Morse there would be a spin off in the works with her in the lead. It's likely that next year will be the last one for AOS and "Marvel's Most Wanted" could end up being the replacement in the Tuesday at 9pm time slot after a trial run as a fill in during next year's AOS hiatus.

I loved this episode. The action was great and the atmosphere was nicely mysterious and foreboding. They had some really appealing choreography and cinematography in a lot of scenes. And they did a nice emotional farewell for Bobbi and Hunter after the mission was over. I thought it was touching.

In addition, I liked how they took some elements from the Marvel comics involving persecution of mutants in Russia and used them here with Inhumans substituting for mutants. That Inhuman general who was part of the planned coup had some interesting darkforce-based powers, and he also had the last name "Androvich," which was the last name of a Russian mutant rebel from the comics. All of it was very fun.

I hope we'll still see Bobbi and Hunter again occasionally outside of their planned spinoff show.

This episode did a good job in highlighting Bobbi and Lance and giving them nice moments. Still sad to see them go though :(
Now, the storyline seemed quite weird to me. Russian government just letting them go and live civilian lifes, as long as they're tailing their moves and accept that silly "mushroom" cover story? Seemed odd. I wonder whether those Russians will continue to be investigating ATCU/SHIELD...

Also, did Bobbi tease that she was married a second time during that interrogation? Nice nod to her Hawkeye marriage..

It's all about reading between the lines. The Russian PM flat out said that the facts didn't matter, just appearance. The Russians were well aware that Bobbi and Hunter were American operatives (under which agency and whose orders, they didn't know) and that the two stopped an assassination attempt on the PM's life. However, the Russian PM needed a scapegoat and he was more than willing to use them as retribution for operating within his country.

Coulson then stepped in and reminded the PM that they had (albeit inadvertently) taken out his major political opponents; thus cementing his position in the his government. Consequently, he allowed them to leave as gratitude on the understanding that they be retired.

Unlike in real life, the Russian PM in the MCU apparently has power.

I don't find Bobbi and Hunter interesting enough to carry a whole series by themselves. This episode wasn't all that interesting and it focused on them.

And who is Malick's daughter supposed to be?

I don't agree that this was a bad episode in any way. I feel it was one of Coulsons strongest performances yet. He channeled his presence and command that he showed in the MCU films. It wasn't the best episode but this show is miles better than Agent Carter

I think this series is really going through a slump right now, especially considering how brilliant Jessica Jones and DD Season 2 have been. I liked the first half of the season, but so far the 2nd half has just been "meh" to me.

I do like the show, but I have to say, I'm not really interested in where they're going with this inhumans plotline. Is every episode now going to be about chasing down inhumans?

I did think it was touching the way the Bobbi and Hunter say goodbye, but the buildup just frankly wasn't very interesting to me.

I actually liked the ending scene, you could feel the emotions.

A slump, and using this slumpish episode as a backdoor pilot for a spin-off? It seems a bit of a risk too if the Most Wanted pilot doesn't even sell and go to series. What happens to Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood then? Do they just return to Agents of SHIELD, and as regulars again? Or do they just move on to other projects, taking this episode as them having been written out of the series?

I'm sure they could come up with a reason to bring them back. I mean, Brett Dalton keeps coming back for some reason.

FINALLY got to see this last night. Kind of sad Bobbi and Hunter are gone.

I'm sure they could come up with a reason to bring them back. I mean, Brett Dalton keeps coming back for some reason.

But he's never actually been written out of the show as such to go off and do his own spin-off. The understanding now, one would assume, is that Bobbi and Hunter are no longer part of the regular cast and won't be playing anymore.

Maybe this is just me, but the direction they've gone with Sky....err...I mean Daisy being the champion of inhuman rights, just is not interesting. I get that inhumans are the MCU's "mutants", but the whole "mutant rights" thing has been so rehashed that it's just not interesting to me. It's even the biggest reason I think Heroes Reborn totally flopped.

They are chasing so many side stories now, I'm not sure how to keep up. They just seemed to drop the whole Fitz-Simmons thing after he came back and was forced to kill the man Simmons fell in love with.

The story with May and her ex being an inhuman was interesting, and now they've gone down another rabbit hole.

The show just has no focus, and the tone they've taken with Coulson now to me doesn't suit the character.

I don't have any answers, but the ratings on this show are falling through the floor. They need to so something to get people re-invested in the show. My kids and wife have pretty much gave up on it.

Bobbi and Hunter had some really strong scenes in this episode. I enjoyed their playful banter as well as their intense emotional scenes. This was some of their strongest material ever.
