Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - 3x13 - "Parting Shot" - Discussion Thread

I feel the Inhumans here are going to make the Inhumans film feel really stale by the time it comes out. They need to give it a rest. Who will care about the royal family by the time that rolls around? They'll just be one of many other Inhumans.

AOS should find its own villains instead of pilfering off the movies. Cap took down Hydra in Winter Soldier, and yet we had to sit through many more months of Hydra still around afterwards, making light of what Cap had done. And now, before the Inhumans film, we've got to suffer through years of it. When that film comes out, we'll all be like "oh, who is this new film about? The Inhumans? Great. They're completely fresh and have never been seen before!" :whatever:

I am wondering that myself. It would have been one thing to have Daisy/Sky and a few other inhumans on the show, but now it's become a "meet the inhuman of the week" show. It kind of reminded me of the early days of Smallville where every episode was about how some human gained powers through contact with Kryptonite.

yeah this show feels like it's lost a lot of traction
I agree when people say "it got so much better after Winter Soldier"
but that only lasted until the end of last season, this season has not been terribly entertaining, imo, and unfortunately Agent Carter was the same way, combine em together and the poor ratings are not a big surprise

Agent Carter Season 2 was mediocre as well.

And now we've got to suffer through Marvel's Most Wanted? This could be Marvel's least wanted series ironically.

I am confused by this episode, as well as others above said. It was very emotionally strong, the ending had me close to tears, but the plot that led to it was kind of weak. The Russian PM needed someone to blame, so it looked good in the eyes of public. Instead he only had the agents, that saved him, fired without anyone knowing. It just does not make sense.
And it would probably the first time Coulson & co. followed such orders, If I accept the plot, it still seems odd that they are not looking for a way to ignore the deal with Russians.

It really felt like they got word that the network wanted the totally unnecessary Mockingbird spin-off and just threw this episode together. The idea that the PM would punish the people who saved his life...and that SHIELD...who wasn't even officially involved...would then boot them off the team because Russia said so...is weak reasoning.

The backdoor pilot for the new show is the lowest-rated episode in the history of Agents of SHIELD. That SHOULD be a sign to ABC that maybe they need to adjust their plans.

Is Marvel's Most Wanted going to have similar ratings to this episode? Are they really going to push forward with it when they've seen the response to this one?

It seems rather dumb to actually base a series on their lowest rated episode ever. If this weren't in the works and they had to decide on a spinoff from one of their episodes, this episode shouldn't be it. They wouldn't, under normal circumstances, reason "oh, let's pick the one with the lowest rating as a starting point".

Just because it was planned to have a series featuring these two doesn't mean they must push forward with it at all costs.

This is at least the 3rd female character on this show who was rumored to be Madam Hydra though. I'm probably forgetting a few.

Crappy episode with a meh story line. Stupid reasoning for them to have to leave, and I have no interest in Most Wanted.

With the ratings slipping and Agent Carter a wash out, they'll need to do some damage control.

It's not based on this episode, this episode was just setting down that path. It's making the show possible, it's not spinning off from it.

You are right od course, but knowing that the show was possible only thanks to something that doesnt make much sense, leaves a somewhat bitter taste instead of making me to look forward to it... But its MCU so Im gonna watch it anyway. :D

I have to agree with those who say this season lacks luster. The first season was the strongest.

Someone said the series is lacking focus. I agree. Story lines gone unfinished, and new ones that are mediocre. The season began promising but once it came back, meh.

Although I admit the ending scene put a tear in my eye.

My one beef about this season has been Gideon Malick. He's a wuss compared to Fisk and Killgrave.

And HYDRA will still probably be the enemy even after Civil War, which will no doubt end the organization in the movies.

I think this might be more than flashbacks. He was shot in the back while we know he used Yiaying's insides to rejuvinate himself and potentially get some kind of healing factor, then he was just left there with no indication he was put in a morgue or even investigated. And all that before he ever wore his trademark helmet. It definitely leaves the door open for a return.

so is the Bobbi and Hunter spinoff actually happening bc that exit seemed final in this episode

Seeing as they've already cast Delroy Lindo as Dominic Fortune, Fernanda Andrade as his niece Christina Santos and Oded Fehr as some villain from the comics, I'd say so

For a pilot though or the actual series, bc those are two different things. Like has ABC actually ordered a 13 episode run? Because if Im not mistaken, there was talk of this last year and they didnt move forward with it

The pilot, at least. But the fact that they're announcing cast members aside from our main characters must mean that they're going to move forward with this. We should find out more when ABC releases new show info in May.

So, an entire episode to setup a series no one wants? Great!

what's setup to a series? a spinoff?

I really liked this episode solely for the ending, really touching. They need to do more character moments

The character moments in this episode were definitely strong, and I enjoyed the shadowy, noir-like atmosphere they used to portray the team's undercover mission in Russia.
