HYDRA seem to know about the new SHIELD and they seem to consider SHIELD a threat....
I think his age (41) eliminated him to play Cage in Marvel's mind. They are probably looking for someone closer to the age of Evans and Hemsworth (early 30's).
Hell, I remember him from NYPD Blue....15 years ago
Remember...Skye and Simmons shot a superior officer while hacking into SHIELDS secret files at the Hub...and SHIELD brushed it off and allowed them to remain a part of the team.
My friends who aren't watching the show use this exact excuse...that the show is merely reflecting the movies, but the movies aren't in any way impacted by the show.
One bit that bugged me is Hunter going down to the street to shoot Creel. Just earlier in the episode Talbot talked him up as a seasoned soldier, and then he went and did something like that.
Wonder what senator Talbot was refering to, that had deep pockets, and wanted Coulsson?
I think Sterns was arrested at the end of TWS.Probably Sterns. Unless something happened to him at the end of the movie, I can't remember.

Watching a 2nd here soon.HYDRA seem to know about the new SHIELD and they seem to consider SHIELD a threat....
Now you have me thinking hard. I thought his parents were dead.Indeed he was, so it must be annother one. Some people here have mentioned that there exist a senator in the comics who's last name is Ward. Perhaps they are building up an introduction to Grant Wards father?

Talking about mcu Grant Ward's parents. If I recall they had him in and out of several facilities when Garret picked him up

I don't recall that they mentioned what his parents current status was. At least in the flashback prison-scene with Garret, it was implied that they were alive, as Garret said: "and you could blame mommy and daddy and your older brother for your problems".
I thought he burned down the house they were in, and that's how he ended up in jail. But I'll admit I really wasn't following Ward's story that closely last season.
Maybe they will be revealed more, we'll have to seeThat would be me.I've just finished watching the episode and was going to post exactly that, so cool to see that already being discussed! :P
Pretty sure they left that status unknown, and for good reason: they hinted Ward's psychotic family so much last season that they'd be totally going against Chekhov's gun if they don't have Coulson's SHIELD face them this season. My guess is that Ward's father and/or family will the villain(s) of the second half of the season. We shall see if I'm right.
Yeah but they didn't say Grant's parents were dead, just that he burned down the house. You would think if he killed them in the fire he wouldn't have any issues shooting a dogI thought he burned down the house they were in, and that's how he ended up in jail. So they were at least still alive as of that flashbackGarrett: The quartermaster at your military school's an old buddy of mine. He told me about a pissed-off young cadet with off-the-chart eye-hand coordination who went awol, stole a car, drove over a thousand miles home only to try and burn the place down. I must say, I find a young man like that intriguing. I'm curious. Did you know your brother was in the house when you set it on fire?
Ward: No, sir, I did not.
Garrett: I was a pyro as a kid, too. Ended up making a pretty good living at it. I'm here to make you a one-time offer, so listen up. Your family's lawyer's gonna be here in about 20 minutes. Not only are your folks pressing charges against you for arson and attempted murder, but your older brother's petitioning the court to have you tried as an adult. Now, you can spend the next few years locked up in a cage, blaming mommy and daddy and mean older brother for your problems, Or you can let me get you out of here and teach you how to be a man.
Ah, that makes sense. I'd forgotten the dialogue. He did burn down the house, but Garrett spoke of ATTEMPTED murder in that scene, so I take that as an indication that Grant failed to kill his target(s).
or he pulled them out at he last minute, because he didn't have the stomach to kill them. We really don't know who his parents are, and by the way his brother was I can see them being real "a-holes" tooHe did burn down the house, but Garrett spoke of ATTEMPTED murder in that scene, so I take that as an indication that Grant failed to kill his target(s).
