Solid episode. Kind of wish we had a two episode premiere last week, but alas...

Nice to see Skye's dad. You can tell he's going to be a piece of work.

One bit that bugged me is Hunter going down to the street to shoot Creel. Just earlier in the episode Talbot talked him up as a seasoned soldier, and then he went and did something like that.

I think his age (41) eliminated him to play Cage in Marvel's mind. They are probably looking for someone closer to the age of Evans and Hemsworth (early 30's).

He can easily pull off early 30's though. He's perfect for the part. But honestly, he may get it, you never know. Who's to say he is who he says he is and he doesn't end up in jail later on......or they rewrite Luke Cage's origin like they did Ultron since the MCU is all tied together. We are all in a wait and see mode.

Another solid episode last night. I need to re-watch the part where Mack is scrolling through Fitz's devices on the tablet. I noticed the gravitonium and some other call backs to last season on there. I really like their relationship, especially since Mack is the opposite of Simmons in every way. Hopefully he'll help put Fitz on the road to mental stability.

It was also nice to have Raina back, and to confirm that she's something (an Inhuman?). I would love it if the Obelisk was an Infinity Stone, as you guys were saying, and the it shows up in the movies later. I think having it as a season-long McGuffin would earn it a spot along side the single-film McGuffins of the larger MCU.

If Raina is an Inhuman, the Obelisk could also be a variation of the Terrigen Mist/Crystals.

Can't wait for next week. Blizzard! Hydra! Simmons! Plot twists galore!

Remember...Skye and Simmons shot a superior officer while hacking into SHIELDS secret files at the Hub...and SHIELD brushed it off and allowed them to remain a part of the team.

It's not entirely clear that it wasn't Hand's plan to have them discover those files and launch the unauthorized rescue mission. Shooting Sitwell probably wasn't part of the plan, but he did get in the way (and he was only knocked out anyway).

My friends who aren't watching the show use this exact excuse...that the show is merely reflecting the movies, but the movies aren't in any way impacted by the show.

As a rule, it's hard to do something in the show and then incorporate it in a movie because the lead time is too large (the movie is written long before an episode is written). The only thing they could do otherwise is something like having Lorelei in Thor 3, but Thor 3 is years out, it seems. However, they do have the capability of appearing like the movie is tying into them. Although Age of Ultron is completely written and almost filmed, they can act as a prequel if need be and build up to that point (something a little less subtle than the vague talk about the uncertainties regarding SHIELD's methods). It could take some coordination, but it's completely doable.

That being said, I doubt the Obilisk is an Infinity Stone. The only logical candidate would be the Soul stone and I strongly suspect that'll appear in a movie (Time Stone is the only one I'm not so sure about). Plus, it really seems like Kree technology.

Talking about mcu Grant Ward's parents. If I recall they had him in and out of several facilities when Garret picked him up

I don't recall that they mentioned what his parents current status was. At least in the flashback prison-scene with Garret, it was implied that they were alive, as Garret said: "and you could blame mommy and daddy and your older brother for your problems".

Pretty sure they left that status unknown, and for good reason: they hinted Ward's psychotic family so much last season that they'd be totally going against Chekhov's gun if they don't have Coulson's SHIELD face them this season. My guess is that Ward's father and/or family will the villain(s) of the second half of the season. We shall see if I'm right.

That's right. I was trying to remember what the exact event was that covered Grant's parents a bit more than the Well episode

He did burn down the house, but Garrett spoke of ATTEMPTED murder in that scene, so I take that as an indication that Grant failed to kill his target(s).

Yeah but they didn't say Grant's parents were dead, just that he burned down the house. You would think if he killed them in the fire he wouldn't have any issues shooting a dog

Now, you can spend the next few years locked up in a cage, blaming mommy and daddy and mean older brother for your problems, Or you can let me get you out of here and teach you how to be a man.

So they were at least still alive as of that flashback

Ah, that makes sense. I'd forgotten the dialogue.

EDIT: Although, honestly, I see the older brother as being more setup for a future appearance than the parents.

or he pulled them out at he last minute, because he didn't have the stomach to kill them. We really don't know who his parents are, and by the way his brother was I can see them being real "a-holes" too

Plus Tripplett once quoted Garrett as saying words to the effect that: 'Wards' family is like the cable version of the Kennedys'.
