Supergirl All About The Ratings!!!!!! - Part 1

Ouch. Probably not wise to come back against the AFC Championship game. Again I say, this Sunday move did this show no favors. A shame as this was easily the best mid-season return episode the show has ever had, imo.

Rating for this past weekend's episode for Supergirl was 0.3, which is even with previous one.

It's actually up from last week, as the unrounded final was .27 in the demo last week. The unrounded final this week should be reported tomorrow with the Live+3's, but it will likely be higher than that, just not high enough to round up to a .4. The live viewership this week was 1.337mil, which is the 2nd highest non-crossover viewership since the season premiere.

Nice as things should pick up from there in the next few weeks.

As expected, this week's final rating was .33 in the demo/1.34mil live viewers, up from the .27/1.04mil of last week.

DVR ratings are in the for the week of SG's mid-season return. Supergirl was actually the #1 show on any network in percentage gains, both in the demo (152% gain) and total viewers (114% gain). Further illustrating how much the NFL championship game killed its live ratings that week and it was stupid to bring it back against that. Here's how the CW shows ranked that week in the Live+7 numbers (Arrow, Black Lightning and Legacies are not here because this is for the week ending on Jan 20th, and they returned the next week):

1.) The Flash: 1.2 demo; 3.29mil total viewers
2.) Riverdale: .9 demo; 2.32mil total viewers
3.) Supernatural: .7 demo; 2.34mil total viewers
4.) Supergirl: .7 demo; 2.23mil total viewers
5.) Roswell, New Mexico (series premiere): .6 demo; 2.43mil total viewers
6.) Charmed: .5 demo; 1.58mil total viewers
7.) All-American: .3 demo; 1.03mil total viewers
8.) Dynasty: .3 demo; 0.85mil total viewers
9.) Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: .3 demo; 0.59mil total viewers

DVR (Live+7) rankings for the CW shows are in for the week of "Blood Memory," which saw a 110% gain in the demo and a 76% gain in viewership and managed to beat Arrow's return that week -

1.) The Flash: 1.3 demo; 3.41mil total viewers
2.) Riverdale: .8 demo; 2.07mil total viewers
3.) Supernatural: .7 demo; 2.36mil total viewers
4.) Supergirl: .7 demo; 2.36mil total viewers
5.) Arrow: .7 demo; 2.08mil total viewers
6.) Roswell, New Mexico: .6 demo; 2.12mil total viewers
7.) Legacies: .6 demo; 1.75mil total viewers
8.) Charmed: .6 demo; 1.64mil total viewers
9.) Black Lightning: .5 demo; 1.44mil total viewers
10.) All-American: .4 demo; 1.19mil total viewers
11.) Dynasty: no data because it wasn't in the top 40 percentage gains of the week, but based on its Live+SD ratings, it should be ranked above Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
12.) Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: .2 demo; 0.54mil total viewers

The move to Sundays does seem to have people recording and watching later in the week which isn't unexpected and CW is probably ok with that. Interesting the show actually beat Riverdale and tied Supernatural in viewers. I wonder if Supergirl has managed to retain some out of demo viewers from CBS days.

Numbers for last night were 0.4 and 1.18 million.

Numbers for last night were 0.3 and 1.06 million.

Numbers for last night's debut with Lex Luthor was 0.3 and 1.07 million which is even with last week.

I thought they might be higher for Lex. though i'm sure he's going to be around longer

It seems that Variety has sort of lapsed on keeping up with their DVR ratings charts, so now I'm using Programming Insider's data, and they only do the top percentage increases of the week, which means not all CW shows are necessarily included. But here's the DVR (Live+7) they've got for the week of February 11th. "Menagerie" saw a 117% increase in the demo and a 92% increase in viewership. Here's how the (available) CW shows stacked up that week:

1.) The Flash: 1.1 demo; 3.05mil total viewers
2.) Supergirl: .7 demo; 2.20mil total viewers
3.) Arrow: .6 demo; 1.75mil total viewers
4.) Charmed: .5 demo; 1.54mil total viewers
5.) Black Lightning: .5 demo; 1.51mil total viewers
6.) Roswell, New Mexico: .5 demo; 1.98mil total viewers

And here's what we've got for the week of February 25th. "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice and The American Way?" had a 76% increase in the demo and a 83% increase in viewership. Here are the available Live+7 numbers for the CW shows that week (the other DC shows didn't return 'til after Sunday, so they aren't here):

1.) Supergirl: .7 demo; 2.08mil total viewers
2.) Riverdale: .7 demo; 1.73mil total viewers
3.) Legacies: .5 demo; 1.50mil total viewers
4.) Charmed: .5 demo; 1.43mil total viewers
5.) Roswell, New Mexico: .4 demo; 1.67mil total viewers
6.) All-American: .4 demo; 1.00mil total viewers

Aaaand the numbers for the next week (these are the return episodes for the other DC shows, and the 2nd episode back from break for SG). "Stand and Deliver" saw an 82% gain in the demo and a 75% gain in viewership:

1.) The Flash: 1.1 demo; 3.09mil total viewers
2.) Supernatural: .7 demo; 2.17mil total viewers
3.) Supergirl: .6 demo; 1.83mil total viewers
4.) Riverdale: .6 demo; 1.72mil total viewers
5.) Roswell, New Mexico: .5 demo; 1.81mil total viewers
6.) Arrow: .5 demo; 1.68mil total viewers
7.) Legacies: .5 demo; 1.53mil total viewers
8.) Charmed: .4 demo; 1.31mil total viewers
9.) Black Lightning: .4 demo; 1.30mil total viewers
10.) All-American: .3 demo; 0.97mil total viewers

To me Black Lightning is a waste of CGI money that could go to the other CGI heavy shows. It is extremely obvious that the budgets have been cut this season. They seem to be holding off for specific episodes rather than putting the $$$$ out there for each episode. I dont know maybe BL does really well on Netflix????

Maybe, not that Netflix would ever tell us, lol.

I'm not sure Black Lightning is the cause. It's more obvious on the Flash (two or three episodes with very little powers followed by big Grodd/King Shark fight than here about the CgI) though lack of Superman could be explained this way. Also, i'm guessing Jon Cryer costs more than most actors they cast.

Im not saying BL is to blame, Im saying it is the lowest rated super show, and only in its 2nd season. Cut it loose and then take the money saved and put it into the shows that are in the top half of your line up of Superhero shows.

Legends of Tomorrow does just as badly, and is reportedly more expensive, so that one seems like the better candidate to cut. But it doesn't matter. Arrow is ending, and Batwoman will replace it. If BL or LoT ended, that money wouldn't go to the other shows, it would simply go to its replacement in the lineup.

Btw, the final live ratings for this week were .32 in the demo, 1.07 million live viewers. Slightly up from last week and back to beating Arrow again (that had a .31 demo; 1.02mil viewership).

EDIT: Just found out about Supernatural ending, too. Between that and Arrow, CW is losing two of their more dependable big guns, so I think the other super shows are likely quite safe for another couple seasons.

Hey either one or both is fine with me.....lol

Ive put Supergirl above Arrow no matter the numbers. Even the main 3 networks calculate weekend ratings when comparing their shows.

SG pretty much always does better than Arrow in delayed viewing, which is something the CW values over other networks because of their unique business model. It was just earlier this season, Arrow came out of the gate surprisingly strong in live viewing and took a solid lead over Supergirl for the first half of the season, but they now seem to be sliding back into their old dynamic, where SG was on par or slightly above it live, and then soundly beats it once DVR numbers come in.

Regardless, Arrow wasn't cancelled due to ratings, so it's not like SG's in any danger anyway.
